    If Graham ever has kids he's going to be the "we have food at home" parent for sure

      Nobody really knows anything about this Graham guy. How does anyone even know he is a millionaire? If he is such a successful guy why is he sitting here posting RUclips videos only having 100k subscribers? Sure seems like a lot of effort. It is so easy to sit there and criticize poor people that are below poverty level. How dare this poor person buy a gift for their friend? Why didn’t they put it in their IRA? Lol

    Remember, everyone has a luxury they are willing to spend more on than an average person. Everyone. Including Graham. You can get a Planet Fitness membership for $10/month, not to mention working out at home for free and running outside, but he spends $200/month (overpaying 2000%) because he feels he can justify it. Everyone has something they are willing to spend 2x, 5x, even 10x more than a financially intelligent person would, even financially intelligent people. It's about having the self control to only spend on luxuries you can handle; not about cutting out all luxuries all together.

    • @jadiecakes3241
      @jadiecakes3241 5 лет назад +30

      Yep. People are more worried about their own wallets than those industries. And to be fair, some people dont make enough to pay the prices for ethical clothes.

    • @rsloveeeee
      @rsloveeeee 5 лет назад +12

      @@jadiecakes3241 true but I would argue that most do. People are obsessed these days with buying buying buying but really all you need is a few nice pieces. We're in a culture of consumers and getting five of each color has become so normalized. Luckily for those who can't afford to buy ethically you can go thrift shopping.

      @@rsloveeeee I agree with you, but i also know people who do thrift and for them a cheap NEW top is a great thing (and ethics would never enter into it). I don't think it should just be on consumers, but industries too, to help make a change. A law perhaps, were stores need to display their ethical rating for example, would be a great small step for everyone. people could more easily make a more informed choice, and stores can see how that changes what people buy.

    110k salary and netting 4.2k/month doesn’t sound right, unless she didn’t include the 401k contribution and health insurance that gets deducted from her pay
    Edit: also assuming she started working at 22, how did she save 110k saving in 4 years? Her first salary was probably lower too

    • @mylesgray3470
      @mylesgray3470 5 лет назад +13

      Eric Lee You are correct. I make the exact same amount and my take home is $5,500 a month and that’s after taxes/insurance and 15% 401K contribution which is very near the maximum allowed. She must make about $75K and get some insane $35k annual bonus.

    • @brendanbenecke6877
      @brendanbenecke6877 5 лет назад +19

      @@mylesgray3470 if she's maxing her 401k, that takes her down to ~90k taxable. Subtract her 5500 a year in Roth IRA contributions, then a little extra in ny state and NYC tax and 4200$ monthly is right in line for 110k

    • @slayerzerg
      @slayerzerg 5 лет назад +5

      consultants make about 70s first two years then senior consultant jumps up to 100+, so shes about 90 average. i'm also 26 and that amount sounds feasible in a non-major city at least.. 3 factors
      1) her cheap nyc apt of 2 or more roommates $1500 each
      2) reducing/eliminating bonus tax by maxing her fat consulting bonus into her 401k
      3) good 401k match and boom in stock markets since 2016
      not to mention she has crazy mileage/points for travel and hotel, and probably eats on the company's dime most of the week. Consulting for ya

    • @stevenspencer306
      @stevenspencer306 5 лет назад

      I struggle with this, too. Assuming she's been working 4 years, she's averaging about $10k/yr (including company match) in the 401k and $4.5k/yr in the Roth IRA based on the current balances and growth over the last 4 years. So a max out assumption to get her down to $4.2k/mo doesn't seem accurate.

    I couldn't agree more with what she said about people talking about finances. My dad made over 100k every year but never explained much about it when I asked him. It was considered impolite to talk about money matters, for my family and definitely so for other people! I didn't start learning more until MUCH later (and several financial mistakes later) and my co workers started bringing up ways to save money and how they managed their accounts. We actually started taking financial advice from one another, sharing coupons and spreading the word on sales. It was at first like we were all ashamed about past mistakes that were made but we wanted to learn more and do better for ourselves. I've learned some great tips and tricks and saved a LOT just by listening to their advice, AND watching Graham. Thanks for your channel!! I hate the ads, BUT, I stay on them for an excruciating 8 seconds only for your channel Graham. With respect to the recent videos having people with good financial focus and standing, I like them. I like the balance, I think the bad ones will show people what not to do, and the good ones are motivation, to follow in their footsteps to some extent.

    $110K salary as a Senior Consultant at her age is pretty standard. This is what consulting companies pay. Starting salary for an analyst right out of college (22 yrs old) is between $75-85k depending on where you live. After that, promotions happen almost every year with a $5-10K salary increase. This doesn't account for bonuses you get twice a year usually. She's doing great so not to belittle that I'm just saying if you are in consulting, similar to investment banking, you get paid a lot for your time. Usually this comes at the price of no work life balance, never being home and enough stress for you to want to retire after two years lol

    "You can watch Frozen online." Nope. Not if you want the full theater experience. It is a very different thing to be there in person than to watch it on a screen. When talking movies were invented all the smart money bet on the death of Broadway. Later, when TV penetrated the market, more doom and gloom for live performances. So far, Broadway has changed (and the vaudeville circuit has died) but people still flock to live performances, because it's a completely different experience. Just as attending a live concert is a very different experience than listening to a recording of the song over the radio. Live theater is with us forever.
