I love the metaphysical aspect of this game. It's a choose your own adventure book on the surface, but it's also a novel about the choices we make, who or what we follow, and how our actions affect the both in life. Favorite part is after you abandon the narrator you're left with no one telling guiding you, so you wander the halls trying to figure out what to do and why you're here with no help from an outside source.
Tanya marveled at the sight before her, a video of impossible age, a video that predated Septiplier, that predated Chica, that maybe even predated Wade. She stared intently at the screen, absorbing every detail, admiring just how far markimoo had come over the years, and with a single tear of satisfaction, she went down to the comments section to make a post. As [commenter name] read the impossibly old post before them, they gained a newfound respect for narrative motifs and the fragility of the 4th wall in video game tropes. This post was ancient, and yet it was itself referencing something that was ancient at the time of its writing. [Commenter name] couldn't help but up-thumb it and leave a reply, perhaps some future reader would come along and find their addition and likewise be compelled to respond, and thus the cycle would continue.
As David read the impossibly old comment before them, they began to question if they truly had free will, or if everything they did, down to the decision to write a reply to the comment from the point of a narrator, was all predetermined. Did they really have a choice? David continued to type until they decided that enough was enough, and after a brief spellcheck they decided to post their reply.
Wow, this is a marvelous comment! Really encapsulates the concept of narrative motifs and the fragility of the 4th wall not only in video games, but in every aspect of content creation in general.
As Polli read the impossibly old comment and the replies to it, she felt the need to like it and write a reply. Rereading the first sentence, she briefly thought about the fact that she was reading it in the Narrator's voice, wondering if her fixation on Stanley Parable is becoming strong enough to earn the place among her long-lasting fixations. She checked through her comment and hit the blue arrow to post it.
WAIT WHAT. So I got into a couple vtubers recently (such as ironmouse, filian, shylily, etc) realized they are really funny and I saw they had all played the Stanley parable. So I’ve finished watching all their streams and thought let’s go watch mark and jack and gab play it again. I go back to watch mark and his first early video first. TO SEE THIS?!? How did I never see it play the early version in freaking 2012?????? This surprised the heck outta me.
Because of all the Half-Life 2 elements still present and seeping through the beta version of The Stanley Parable, it feels wrong to see it because I'm so used to The Stanley Parable's full version.
Here is the scenario Cinco de Mayo 2023. You’re playing the ultimate edition and realize then remember when you watched Markiplier play the G mod version. So then you watch this and all the nostalgia comes back all at once. Wow! In the matter of two worlds between the Stanley parable itself and hell, Markiplier has grown. How much 10+ years can do to a person, and I mean that on both sides. Good and bad. And I mean that as seeing the vessel of times before and how they are now is truly outstanding. This is one of the reasons why I love RUclips so much, just to go back in the past.
I remember watching this game in middle school because I saw a review of the Stanley parable in Game Informer. Been watching Markiplier since 7th grade and im proud of the person he's become ❤
So glad I found this, going back through the parable series and trying to not spoil too much of Ultra Deluxe since I haven’t “finished” it. Love that the narrator genuinely sounds no different.
That was a pretty awesome playthrough! :3 It was a refreshing change of pace from the usual horror games as well. That's not to say that the horror playthroughs have gotten old, but its nice to slow down and a good narrative adventure game like this one. :)
All of us love you mark . I've been your fan sense I was 12 years old and you make everyday fun for me and when I'm sad you make me happy again. Thanks mark
Im really starting to wonder if some people from portal helped make this because the sounds when hes clicking around are 100% from portal not to mention the portal vibes and in the updated version you actually get an ending where you're in minecraft then in the starting room of portal
lol watching this & hearing the narrator give me the imagination of watching from above of how 3D Marky Doll walking around on his own in a doll-sized office building. Then when Marky Doll walked into the empty room, I imagined myself as the narrator picking him up & putting inside a doll-sized train & watching him having fun adventure as he walked about ^-^
+ZephodBeeblebrox Yes. But while Davey compiled both this and Beginner's, the entire game of Beginner's was truly all made by Coda. It's just natural that games made in the Source engine would look similar in art assets.
I did not know that. I really hope Coda is a real person. If not, the meaning of the game would kind of be lost, I guess. Plus, then I would feel bad for feeling bad for Coda.
The meaning of the game is a lot deeper than just someone who fucked someone else over by sharing their games. It's about the relationship between the creative side of him (Coda), and the normal, everyday side of him (Davey). Essentially after he released the Stanley Parable, he got very depressed about his game not being all that he wants it to be, and constantly needing more and more praise in order to reassure him. That's essentially what the game is about.
Mark references Futurama when he says, "I'm gonna make my OWN game! With blackjack! And hookers!" Bender says something like this when he's kicked out of that Disneyland on the moon. "I'm gonna make my OWN theme park! With black jack! And hookers! Y'know what? Forget the park!"
Oh my god... That camera and mic quality! Baby Mark!
Lmao, ikr
Do do do do
good times

Man remember.... 2012
Markiplier: Don't watch the older the Stanley Parables. Watch this, the Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe!
Me: _Don't mind if I do_
literally lmao
Me: YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO MR NARRATOR!
I mean, i am curious...
I never see him play the first game
MEEEEE
he instantly got to the new content in ultra deluxe so id rather watch his old gameplays
What a cool RUclipsr. I sure hope he gets famous some day
Hello, IronGuy64. Welcome to the future!
@@coltforce_playz2291 You didn't get the joke
It's a real tragedy, how it all ended...
Was he making this comment for likes or sarcasm?
@@blipblop1112 Or maybe it was just a random joke. Lots of old fans do that.
And so, the game never ends. It never ends. Even a decade later, you cannot escape, Stanley.

the fact that this isnt in his stanley parable playlist is a tragedy
But Stanley without the narrator is like Tony Stark without Jarvis. It's just not right :(
how old are you
Licia Forshaw That's quite a rude question.
+elisabetrouge so so very tru
+elisabetrouge it's kind of weird too.
Jarvis?

When this video came out, little did everyone know that in 10 years The Ultra Deluxe edition will be released!
Dang, things have changed so much.
the voice acting in this is actually phenomenal.
Are you still alive?
It didn't change in 10 years

Narrator sounds a little more sleepy in this version.
Anyone seeing this after Ultra Deluxe came out? How's that game for you, anyway? Personally, I love it.
It would be cool to see Mark play that now!

Holy it’s been 11 years after the video came out
mark AND stanley got an upgrade in quality

What a cool game, I predict it will become a full game and get a sequel.
What a interesting game sure hope it gets more interesting in about 9 years

Anybody else checking out the OG game in celebration of The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe Release Date Trailer?
Yes
Okay, so I'm only three minutes in and I'm already loving this - such a clever game!
It's really strange every time I see someone play the newer version and ending up in the old offices to not realize what it was

The music at the end people is Radiohead - Everything in it's right place
And it's absolute magic.
I NEVER Knew this video existed, i have NEVER seen this build of the game, its wild
I love how in the new game, they referenced this original half life mod.
Much Fetus.
Very Squishy.

7:17 that was used in the broom closit ending as an insult in the remake
It's 2022, and many things are different but this video stays the same. Thanks again Mark.

Anyone here from the Stanley Parable Ultra deluxe version?
Yes
Yup. Just finished watching him play it.
Hey, look! Baby Mark!
You don't know the half of it ☆.☆
If only that narrator narrated all of Mark's videos. He'd be absolutely livid.
The production quality difference between 2012 and 2013 for Markiplier is pretty crazy.
Stanley Parable "Fuck the Police" edition.
I remember when it was just a mod it was all the rage mod wise on steam
Genius way of storytelling. I hope you upload more on this soon Mark, it looks absolutely brilliant!
Welcome to the future
Little does he know
He sure did
welcome back, everyone who watched ultra deluxe and came back here for the nostalgia
This guy probably won't make it very far

i think this is the video that first got me interested in the game, how far it's come
I watched a video about the deluxe, then the full game and now this one XD
Yup and here I am waiting for him to play the deluxe release
Stanley: I don’t know who I am, or why I’m here. All I know is I must disobey.

Bro this comment should have a price 9 years
Me right after heard Markiplier saying not to go look for the older version in Ultra Delux version video: "Found it!"😂
2012 markiplier enjoys (mostly) traveling through the Backrooms
re-watching old Markiplier videos in 2016
I love old mark just as much as new mark
All of us love you mark . I've been your fan sense I was 12 years old and you make everyday fun for me and when I'm sad you make me happy again. Thanks mark
To be honest, you sold me this game. Totally.
My GOD the nostalgic hits watching this after 11 years such a difference between the videos
If they release an Xbox port, I'll play it.
11 years ago markaplyer is the golden age😂
Still a better love story than Twilight
Im really starting to wonder if some people from portal helped make this because the sounds when hes clicking around are 100% from portal not to mention the portal vibes and in the updated version you actually get an ending where you're in minecraft then in the starting room of portal
If I remember correctly, this game was originally a mod for half life 2, which runs on the source engine and shares assets with portal.
its beacuse its made in source half life 2s engine and portal engine
Did anyone get the Futurama at 7:33
Hehe I got it. :D Bender
This game has come a long way. It started as a straight Half-life 2 mod
I wish they kept this version as one of the endings, in it's entirety.

I don't remember going into the HL2 area.
TheNumnutRandomness But the new Stanley game did go to Minecraft and Portal, so they did keep the spirit of this ending and made it better.

12:23 made me extremely happy. Radiohead? Good choice for credit music. "Everything in its Right Place."
Baby Markiplier giggles are 10/10
You know what really grinds my gears?

Who's excited for the new version coming out this year???
Glad Radiohead's in the story. Such a good album

"And stanley was happy." -Happy markilpier is happy-
I'VE FINALLY FOUND MARK PLAYING THIS
Sounds like the narrator from Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
You should do the secret endings
NIGHT SHARK!!!!! NIGHT SHOCK 117!!!! THE FULL GAME MAKES SO MANY REFERENCES TO THIS VERSION!!! COOOL!
Came Here after i watched the new but also old stanley parable.
Ngl the opening to this was better than the completed game
the mic and camera quality!!!! it's a baby mark!!!! XD
MrsWeirdAlot I remember baby mark
the narrators voice reminds me of the narrator from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. and i'm LOVING IT
this is funny even after 9 years
Wow I can't believe mark played the original stanley parable
This is hilarious! Please continue making videos.
Hello from the future. Good news! He has millions of fans!
As soon as I heard that NIN style track I fell in love with this game.
It's not NIN at all. The music is the soundtrack from 'American Beauty'
Wait is this a different Stanley Parable? An older version lol?

+Xero Fury yeah he talked about it in the newer one.
This is the Half-Life mod

I watched the new one before this one
I searched for this simply looking for an older version of this game to see how far it's come. Mr. Markiplier, you have come a LONG way my friend! :P
Is Stanley`s boss a Combine Solider?
It's amazing how far this man has gotten, he's almost at 10 million and I'm so proud of you mark!!
30 mill now
Aaaah. Baby mark :'D
I kinda wish they kept some of the game aspects in the full game. still, I like it! I like it a lot!
Babyplier!!
8:08 so that's where the passcode Nightshark115 comes from in the newer version!
Is it me, or did the narrator channel GLaDOS?
still my favorite game of all time
