“Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams.” ― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
You will awaken from your dreams. Curious. I wonder what was meant by this. More and more I wonder if this life is a sort of challenge - it has no real permanent effect on anything directly. Like, say, a dream. We volunteer to place ourselves (or are placed against our will) here. Our memories of actual reality are temporarily suspended. And by doing this - we are forced to rely not on objective experience in reality (actual reality) but the truly subjective nature of the person we are - free of initial prejudice or misconception or knowledge - we come in clean, and what we believe and how we go out is totally up to us and based on how we interpret what we see and learn in this place. But...for what purpose might this 'dream' be? It surely must have some. Maybe, if we mess up - we do wrong, we die dishonorably, or we make mistakes showing we're not worthy...we start all over again. And we do it over, and over, and over, and OVER again until we get it right. But! Once we behave right, we will by necessity die honorably...and then we're freed. We wake up. We've proved ourselves rational and righteous and right - we've proved ourselves worthly of objective existence over a prison in a purely individual illusion. I'm quite certain that wasn't what was intended by the quote above - that surely wasn't what he meant. I'm not the smartest of people and the meaning just evades me. But I still cling to a little wonder - what if my interpretation was correct, and what if the person quoted knew something I didn't? I've found lots and lots and lots of 'things' suggesting that this life is not reality but only a temporary projection of our immortal consciousness into a time-limited scenario where we're left to do what we will in the hopes that our virgin minds will discover what is 'right' by ourselves and have the courage to act according to that up until the very end. All religion basically boils down to that concept...Well, all religions containing an afterlife. A being that defines or otherwise understands what is good or what is not strips all knowledge from you (or gives you no knowledge to begin with), thrusts you down here, and the rest of eternity depends on your ability to judge for yourself what is right within the limited time you have here - and if you judge correctly, you win. Wrongly? Lose. Or, maybe you hit the reset button. Either way - to progress, you need to act according to a set of principles defined outside of your reality and you need to decipher little clues placed inside your fake reality to determine what the universal good truly is. Dunno - the concept just seems awfully universal and transcends both theological and even theories more concretely based off of empirical observations of reality and what may be possible and other 'secular' philosophy, and the above quote got me thinking about it again. So, still I wonder: For us, awakening from a dream means to transition from a meaningless personal illusion created by our own minds into actual shared reality. So, by plunging recklessly towards certain death, with full knowledge that you will die, but while also knowing you're dying for the right thing...we'll awaken. What are we to awaken to?
If I remember from a featurette, Robert Rodriguez stated that Hanzo could've been a Samurai or a warrior of that era but became a Yakuza as he was "born a thousand years too late".
Funny how in spite having a goldmine or a franchise, as the do with Aliens, and tens of thousands of writers and other related creative artists they cant put together a plot and a script worth its paper.Imagination is the hardest skill to find in Hollywood.
I don't care what anyone thinks of Predators, this is one of the most badass scenes in the entire franchise. Hanzo is my favorite character from this film. I would love to see a Predator facing off against old school Samurai warriors.
I like this scene. Like a scene from Japanese cinema, just the whole thing is almost silent, save for the clashing of weapons and the screaming. Open field with tall grass, two warriors viewed from a far shot, only become a close up when they fight again. It gives the scene moments to breathe, the fight to feel more suspenseful. Then in those final moments, you just see raw emotion, before Hanzo falls and leaves the scene on them being dead. Louis Ozama really sold the performance. Facial expression was everything here and he did wonders.
I just love the way the Yakuza and Royce nodded their head..i mean they were unknown, not a team still Royce understood what Yakuza was going to do and fully believed him that he would take down 1 predator..and trusting him he moved ahead..just great understanding without speaking a word..🤝🤝
The Falconer was without a shadow of a doubt the most honorable of the trio of super predators. While the Berserker killed a wounded and defenseless man and used his plasma caster against the Crucified Predator, the Falconer had enough honor and respect to even let Hanzo get up. One of the best scenes in the entire Predator franchise.
On one hand, Hanzo dropped his scabbard, probably expecting to lose from the start of the fight. The predator though didn't even remove its mask. Meaning, it fully expected to win here. In the end, both died, but (at least to me) since the predator fell first, Hanzo technically won.
100% hanzo was the better fighter here. Pred stayed on the defensive the entire time while hanzo was making moves without fear and like you said, he was the last warrior standing.
Two things I always liked about this scene. First the Yakuza aggressively took the fight to the Predator without fear and would not retreat and the Predator kept the fight fair by not using his shoulder cannon or any other advanced weapons. He only used his blade.
It appears Hanzo literally sliced through Falconer's whole abdomen. If the blade was bit deeper, he could've bisected the Falconer. After all, few stabs and gunshot woulds are not enough to kill Predator.
I bet the Predator did some research on the Japanese and seeing one drawing out a Katana he was like “Oh boy oh boy oh boy” ... but I glad everybody got what they want in the end,the predator got his honour back and the yakuza die a warrior death (or as a hunter and no longer the prey)
I think the falconer's helmet was fashioned similar to the samurais, implying that this predator had a centuries-long fascination with them. Probably witnessing the heroic stand of the samurais during the 2nd mongol invasion of japan.
I like to headcanon that this one predator in particular had studied earth history, and was a big nerd for samurai, and started getting really hype when he saw one of the humans was standing their ground with a katana. Just big tough predator going “oh boy, oh boy, we’re gonna do the thing, right here right now, it’s going to be so cool!”
If y’all look carefully when Hanzo and Royce first met at the beginning, they both nodded at each other. And they nodded at each other again before Royce ran off ahead as Hanzo was buying them time. Hanzo is my favorite character in the Predator franchise.
I love when the predator movies show that humans are formidable warriors for the predator when they are properly trained- same thing in the comics. That’s why they keep coming back to earth. They respect our heart
Loved the respect the predator showed him by not attacking him while the dude was on the ground, really wished the dude knocked the predator down and with the predator by his feet, he just steps back and let’s the predator get back up. Would’ve made for a kickass scene
Falconer was without a doubt an incredible Predator who redeemed himself in this fight, with a lot of honor, melee and no cheating. Hanzo also displayed great technique and incredible strength to take on that Super Predator. A very incredible scene and a lot of honor in this fight, magnificent
Billy only used a bayonet to fight the predator - bad idea, got killed ❌ King Willie smoked too much pots before fighting the predator - too high, got killed ❌ Hanzo had a katana as well as sword fighting skill - got killed yet managed to kill ✅
Are we gonna ignore the fact that both opponents fought with honor. That bad blood predator wasn't so bad after all. I wish we had more background for Hanzo. These predators were clearly watching specific people And not just some randoms. They must have seen hanzo use his fighting skills to fuck shit up.
Many people after watching this scene would ask - "why didn't the predator just laser him and go on with the chase". None respected Yautja would ever give up that kind of duel
Sometimes in life, the only Way Forward is to turn your Back and actually Face the Fear that was chasing you. Hanzo did, and this scene made me understand why Honor in the battlefield lives forever
Mindful Waves Studio well Arnold did know Billy really well with all the rescue missions they did together. Adrien just met this guy so of course he wouldn’t feel anything lol plus mercenaries are really cold hearted but ya I see your point hahaha fucked up
Both of them lived lives tainted by dishonor. One, a bad blood. One, a criminal assassin. Yet in the dead of night, upon a grassy field caressed by a gentle breeze, these two warriors died together, having found their honor again at the end of each other's blade.
I also like the idea that happened in this movie and other predator movies. The theme of a badass warrior having a battle sense and knowing the predator is near by. Like in this scene with Hanzo or the african guy at the camp. Another example is in the original film where they first spotted him. It seems that the predators every once in a while come across a warrior who has a very good battle sense and intuition in order to detect them despite predators being invisible.
This is what I always liked about the Predator franchise, in horror or alien movies the humans are constantly on the Run never looking back. But with these particular movies they absolutely welcome A fair fight to the death. No armor, guns, no tricks all you have to do is stop running and face your enemy. There's your chance for survival.
Probably my favorite scene in the movie what i get out of rhis is is hes missing fingers cuz he talks too much.predator saw him and accepted the fight dude was probably seeking redemption and only way to do it is a fight to the death and he throws the sheath down. He knows hes never gonna resheath his blade again this is it. Both him and the predator are exile and going out the way they left long ago. epic moment mad respect
I love how they made Hanzo's move set realistic. Not some flashy bullshit combos that strikes 7-10 hits per attack. Just one at a time with precision and intent to end his opponent. The real way of the samurai.
So glad that these type of predator is a real cold blooded warriors, instead of shooting hanso with that explosive laser the predator fights with fair combat.
Falconer was my favorite of the Super Preds. Not because of his drone or his Optimus Prime looking mask, but because he was the most honorable of the three. He deactivated his cloaking, waited for Hanzo to strike first, and he even gives a nod to encourage Hanzo to attack again. He isn’t toying with him, he’s challenging him. One on one. Tracker seemed to enjoy the fight, and he didn’t get tricky. He fought fair, and died the same way. Truly an epic beast.
Falconer was only a Bad Blood due to his rejection of Tradition and standards Keep in mind and this isnt talked about enough Falconer doesnt have any skulls, or hooves or tusks, his mask is synthetic, his armor is straight, he has no need for trophies And he is the only 1 of the 3 to not have a Shoulder Canon as he doesnt believe in ranged combat
Imagine this was back then and they captured a samurai, Aztec, knight, apache, vikings!!! I know they weren't in the same period but that would've been dope. Better fights i think than guns
Judging by the Armor and Weapons from different time periods Ronald Noland had cached in his little hideout, I would say these bad bloods have been doing this kind of thing for a very long time. Even Ronald's Predator helmet has the Hachi and Shikoro of a Kabuto
Samurai and apache would be. You could have a Samurai, Cowboy, Native American, Pirate, and Victorian era adventurer (think Sherlock Holmes or Alan Quartermain) as they all existed at the same time. Weird, I know, but true though a couple would be a little bit long in the tooth as their respective time periods didn't line up EXACTLY.
You see that moment in his eyes when he says, "I'm done running." Stand or fall he was finished being prey. Love this scene, pure balls.

@@Aspauli a human would not defeat a predator.
“Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams.”
― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
When you accept death is inevitable, you will no longer fear to act.
Fine words, but to what end?
@@Kncperseus To the bitter end.

I like how they brought the music back. Truly a predators film
Watching the original Predator movie. The scene with Billy dying. Made me come here to watch this scene and accidentally timed the music perfectly.
It was dope to see a side character take out a predator in a duel for once. Even if it was at the cost of his life Hanzo went out like a g.

Very good fight in that movie.

He fought like a true Samurai...and died like a true Samurai.
Total badass Samurai.
If I remember from a featurette, Robert Rodriguez stated that Hanzo could've been a Samurai or a warrior of that era but became a Yakuza as he was "born a thousand years too late".

Funny how in spite having a goldmine or a franchise, as the do with Aliens, and tens of thousands of writers and other related creative artists they cant put together a plot and a script worth its paper.Imagination is the hardest skill to find in Hollywood.
it's easily the third best Predator movie
Do you still feel it's best even after Prey?
I don't care what anyone thinks of Predators, this is one of the most badass scenes in the entire franchise. Hanzo is my favorite character from this film. I would love to see a Predator facing off against old school Samurai warriors.
I can't believe people say that this movie is a piece of crap but when predator 2018 came out they came back to this movie like a bunch of pussys
It floors me that some people don’t like this movie. It’s a great sequel.
Facial expression was everything here and he did wonders.
ah yes. Classic Kurosawa~
I loved this scene. The ever so subtle change in the score at the beginning... brilliant.
Greatly underrated film.
I thought it was cool how the Russian and Japanese guys both got to take one out with them.
baka suka power ftw
american prisoner guy also put up a good fight conseidering he only had a shank
@@tritonmole i think he can give better fight if has knife like billie
Both died an honorable warrior’s death. Both redeemed by each other.
Best scene of the movie. Really made me care about the character.
Which is impressive for a character who said practically nothing throughout the film.
I just love the way the Yakuza and Royce nodded their head..i mean they were unknown, not a team still Royce understood what Yakuza was going to do and fully believed him that he would take down 1 predator..and trusting him he moved ahead..just great understanding without speaking a word..🤝🤝
Royce just used him to slow the predator down so they can get farther away.
He definitely won
100% hanzo was the better fighter here. Pred stayed on the defensive the entire time while hanzo was making moves without fear and like you said, he was the last warrior standing.
Experienced human Vs a amateur alien with enchanted capabilities
@@Driak22it's kind of interesting you say that because to think that if the predator didn't have all that fancy technology it might have lost.
@@lynnpabontheelitehero6579 it is always better than the humans but humans can have more skill.
Hanzo died like a true warrior in this battle. The music where Billy stood his ground to fight was a nice touch.
That moment when he changes stances, realizing the only way to get the kill strike is to leave himself open, expertly crafted scene.
Two things I always liked about this scene. First the Yakuza aggressively took the fight to the Predator without fear and would not retreat and the Predator kept the fight fair by not using his shoulder cannon or any other advanced weapons. He only used his blade.
He didn't have a shoulder cannon it was just his blade
@@richardch.4356 he still could've stayed cloaked or launched a rock at his head
@@joelbibeault1169 this pred was more honerbul than the other two so he wouldn't do that.
LMFAO, for real, he was hype, like oh shit the codex said samurais arent around anymore???
On the internet maybe
They've fought Samurai and ninja before so it wouldn't be a stretch that they've heard stories of them and their weapons, tactics from other Yautjua.
goated comment
I think the falconer's helmet was fashioned similar to the samurais, implying that this predator had a centuries-long fascination with them. Probably witnessing the heroic stand of the samurais during the 2nd mongol invasion of japan.
One of my favourite scenes from the Predator franchise. Mad respect to both the fallen warriors.
Not sure how a regular sized like Hanzo is supposed to knock down a 7’5” 500lbs alien warrior though.
@@windowsVD agreed lmao
@@windowsVD maybe using the bottom of his sword he temporarily takes out like the ankles of the predator idk
Falconer was without a doubt an incredible Predator who redeemed himself in this fight, with a lot of honor, melee and no cheating. Hanzo also displayed great technique and incredible strength to take on that Super Predator. A very incredible scene and a lot of honor in this fight, magnificent
Wasn't a Super Predator
@@jdsim9173 Yes, yes, but I guess that day I wanted to name him Predator to refer to the honor of battle. But yes, he is a Super Predator

Hanzo the only man who manage to kill predator in fair fight. that is one of the reasons why he is my favorite human character in Predator movies
The respect of Predators not to strike when their opponent is down.
I like how the predator would back off, never attack when opponent is down
I like the fact that they show the predators as honorable. He had the chance to kill Hanzo a few times but would rather have the honorable fight.
This why Predators stay away from Japan xD

Best one on one fight in the whole damn franchise! Honor to honor. Blade to blade.
Billy only used a bayonet to fight the predator - bad idea, got killed ❌
King Willie smoked too much pots before fighting the predator - too high, got killed ❌
Hanzo had a katana as well as sword fighting skill - got killed yet managed to kill ✅
So, sober Spetsnaz soldier with Russian BALLISTIC knife? 😉
Love this scene, well shot, not flashy, perfect setting and believable choreography, 10/10
This was better than the ending
This hits deep for me, I had a childhood bully that I got tired of running from, I remember the day, you just get sick of it. Tired of it.
Brilliant scene of combat and honor. Royce knew as Hanzo nodded. The way to go.
Billy's stand in predator is still badass
Are we gonna ignore the fact that both opponents fought with honor. That bad blood predator wasn't so bad after all. I wish we had more background for Hanzo. These predators were clearly watching specific people And not just some randoms. They must have seen hanzo use his fighting skills to fuck shit up.
Hanzo was an enforcer for the Inagawa-kai the 3rd largest Yakuza organization in Japan
Predators watching in the distance: "Wat de fuk"
Probably annoyed Hanzo died because that means they don't get a turn.
Arnold: "Billy! Billy! Let's go. C'mon. What're you doing'?"

Mindful Waves Studio well Arnold did know Billy really well with all the rescue missions they did together. Adrien just met this guy so of course he wouldn’t feel anything lol plus mercenaries are really cold hearted but ya I see your point hahaha fucked up
@@vicenteochoa9773 Haha very true. I forgot Billy and Arnie had a past.

This scene makes me wish the scene with Billy 1v1 the Predator in Predator 1 could be something like this.
Falconer: finally a worthy opponent. Now our fight we be legendary
Such a beautiful scene. When the big one hits you and you realize this is your chance to regain your life's honor and become a legend.
Both of them lived lives tainted by dishonor. One, a bad blood. One, a criminal assassin. Yet in the dead of night, upon a grassy field caressed by a gentle breeze, these two warriors died together, having found their honor again at the end of each other's blade.
I know Hanzo felt that cut but his ambition was more important than pain.
* sword falls on high grass *
* makes metalic clanking sound *
Thank you sound department...
They don't say 'BLADES of grass' for nothing. 😉
The least bad Predator sequel. Awesome scene.
I love this scene. This movie is so underrated that it's baffling.
Why was this movie so underrated? This movie was filled with great actors and a crazy story.
I like that he didn't fell until his enemy Predator fell!
When that music starts, you know Shit is about to go down and a last stand is gonna happen.
I was thrilled when i saw he found a sword. There was always a thought in my head of seeing samurai fighting predator. At least i got something.
At 1:44
Falconer gives him a nod like
"Come at me with everything you've got"
When I saw this in the theaters everyone cheered when the predator fell 1st

I love how they made Hanzo's move set realistic. Not some flashy bullshit combos that strikes 7-10 hits per attack. Just one at a time with precision and intent to end his opponent. The real way of the samurai.
Yakuza dosent even flinch when predator comes out of stealth..

So glad that these type of predator is a real cold blooded warriors, instead of shooting hanso with that explosive laser the predator fights with fair combat.
Master hanzo is a pride of human race not many hunans can stans a chance in a blade battle against predators for a human he is such a op.
Didnt realize until i went and watched the original again but they used the same music here as they did when Billy made his final stand. Nice touch 👌
Man even tho this predator was part of the bad bloods, he sure knew respect and honor of fighting
Falconer was only a Bad Blood due to his rejection of Tradition and standards
Keep in mind and this isnt talked about enough
Falconer doesnt have any skulls, or hooves or tusks, his mask is synthetic, his armor is straight, he has no need for trophies
And he is the only 1 of the 3 to not have a Shoulder Canon as he doesnt believe in ranged combat
This scene is a Badass moment in Cinema that is not talked about enough.
Predator had respect and wanted to fight such a brave person
this may be the most badass thing to ever come out of this franchise
If their strength was equal, no way the predator could have hunted him. Noble savage.

Imagine this was back then and they captured a samurai, Aztec, knight, apache, vikings!!! I know they weren't in the same period but that would've been dope. Better fights i think than guns
I saw a fan made one when its medieval times. The Predators were disappointed in mankind. The last guy was a knight, but got his butt kicked.
