Hello! ❤ It will probably be Saturday before you see this so I hope your Friday evening was pleasant. 😊 The boat problems were worrisome but I'm glad it's sorted. 🙂 Basically the boat is a computer now. Maddening as it can be everything that goes wrong will help Liam fine tune the system for future builds and soon all the bugs will be sorted. Things are always going to go wonky at times. You have a good attitude about it. Really glad that Pete and Caroline were there to help since the canal was so quiet. 🥰 Have a great weekend! ❤
You were right Dorothy, so happy Saturday. We said our final goodbyes to Pete and Caroline last night. Definitely going to be glitches with such tech. Fingers crossed they get ironed out. Definitely relived Pete and Caroline were there to help. Have a lovely weekend ❤
All this new technology just takes some getting used to I guess. Thank goodness for Pete and Caroline 🥰 Thanks for another lovely cruise and I hope you 3 have a fantastic weekend ☺️
I love a gadget usually but this has been frustrating. Glad we are getting sorted. We parted company today with Pete and Caroline. Sad, but we know we will see them again soon. Have a great weekend ❤
Pete and Caroline to the rescue!! Yay!! At least it was only a software issue so easily remedied….hopefully. It all adds to the excitement though I guess. 😜. I laughed at Paul’s ‘just what the Dr ordered’ at the end 🤣. Have a great weekend. See you soon x
Cheers Phil. Good job they were there! Fingers crossed the motor is sorted, just need to get the battery issue boxed off and it will be all good. Definitely just what the Dr ordered 😂. Hope your build is going smoothly. ❤
Going by your last boat and what happened with the bow thruster I would seriously think about how often you use your bow thrusters, even more so now you have two. Anthony 👍🏼🤔
Thanks Nick, the electric system we have means you can run the bow and stern thrusters without blowing a separate circuit for as long as you like, I Hague’s the only issue is the amount of power. 👍
Definitely Deb. It was bad enough when I had to contend with them on Window’s systems at work 😬. I am sure all the stuff will iron itself out. Have a lovely weekend ❤
Loved the vlog thank you! Dexter is sooo sweet 😍 glad you got sorted, just teething problems I’m sure, such a gorgeous boat I absolutely love it 😃 hope you are enjoying your weekend ☕️🍰🧁
Action packed with your new boat boys! - Bloody technology! New stuff and growing pains hey! Glad it all came good (?) with the new software download. Love the footage of the canals. So pretty. *hugs*
Thank you. Was a bit scary I can tell you. Tech, can’t live with it, can’t live without it. The canals were stunning. Glad you enjoyed. Hope you have a good weekend ❤
A lovely vlog, once again. How is Dexter now? Have the meds helped? ❤ It’s to your credit that you are vlogging these problems, you could’ve just glossed over them. I hope you’ve got those batteries sorted now, and that your trip up the rivers is uneventful! Have the other electric boats had the same issues? Get an anchor just in case! Xx
Thanks Gill. Dexter is doing ok. His allergy is clearing but his joints are still stuff bless him. We definitely want to be honest with people. He is looking at a different wiring system for the batteries after discussing with the manufacturer, which will hopefully charge and discharge the batteries more evenly. The motor issue, fingers crossed, is sorted. Vetus came to the boat the other week and are confident they have fixed the issue. The other boats seem ok, but they don’t live aboard, so use their power very differently. Anchor is definitely out and life vests on. 😂. See you soon. ❤️
You both have the patience of a saint. Vetus should have notified you of the update or at very least notified the boat builder who in turn contacts you. Glad you got it sorted
Thank goodness you were cruising with friends that darn software!! At least the boat builder is only a quick phone call away and they got you on the move again. Hope next week is all good take care❤
Absolutely Judith. Thankful Pete and Caroline were with us. Liam has been great and Vetus came to the boat a few weeks back and are confident the issue is fixed. Have a lovely weekend ❤
Hi guys a beautiful scenic vlog the thing is with a new boat you are going to be learning new things about it so glad help was at hand hope you have a good week and love to Dexter ❤
Thanks Maureen. It was beautiful and we loved the days cruise up until the tech issues. Definitely expected some teething issues with new technology. Fingers crossed they can sort it all. Have a lovely weekend ❤
Hi Paul,Anthony and Dexter beautiful pictures as always, new cars have teething problems so it’s no different on boats, still love it though, have great week 😊
Glad you sorted your electrical issues out! It was really fortunate Pete and Caroline where with you. I love seeing you travel under a busy bridge with traffic whizzing by, it really highlights the contrast from the lovely gentle slow pace life you have chosen. Take care all three of you xxx
Thanks Carole. Definitely good we had Pete and Caroline with us. We love travelling with busy traffic above too for exactly that reason. Hope you have a lovely weekend ❤
From one of the best at crick to the nations most unreliable boat! My suspicions about the technology not being quite there yet seems to becoming true.
A little unfair. I knew there would be teething issues but we are confident that Vetus has sorted the motor issue and that Liam has a plan for the batteries. Time will tell I guess. ❤
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 I may have worded it better, but I still believe as live aboard a and constant cruisers the battery technology just isn’t there, I believe you’ll be moored a hell of a lot longer than you’ll ever be cruising and Christ knows how you’ll manage in winter, the generators constantly running would be my guess.
Nice vlog full of moving and lock working --well some of you ;) Always nice to see new areas of canals, I like to look at my full map of the England locks to see them all and where we've been. Hecky flip when the power failed. Good job for Caroline and Pete and ofcourse Liam on the end of the phone. Enjoy this summer before it goes again xxx
Hey Susan. This year has been great for us exploring new territory. It was a little stressful re the power and lucky we had friends with us. Liam was great. Hope you have a lovely evening. This is our last meal with Pete and Caroline for a while as we part company tomorrow. ❤
More than capable of using the tiller to steer, we have both done our helmsman course? But what it is the point in having tech if you don’t use it; but like power steering in a car or ABS. You wouldn’t disable them.
Oh hell, bummer, how lucky were you to have Pete and Caroline there with you though I’d bet someone would have come along to help BUT by then would you have been across the canal because as you said it’s very quiet. Sorry you’re losing your travelling companions that’s going to be a bit of a blow. Such a pretty area. Hope Morningstar keeps up with the power. Take care and see you next week. 💕
We were so lucky Pauline. Although, as you say, the boating community are great. We had our last evening with our friends last night. I all seemed a bit surreal but we have now parted company after 7 months. Have a good weekend ❤
Keep up the great videos guys. I really enjoy watching and thinking about the history. I cruise on a lake with my sailboat ( not sailing, just cruising) and it's not as exciting... so, I really enjoy watching narrowboats and their adventures. Thanks again. Robert of Canada 🇨🇦
Sorry to hear about the problems but an understandable problem that was just waiting to happen. Now that you have found the problem Liam and Oakums can watch out for it on other boats. Being a leader sometimes carries risks of finding new ways to get into trouble LOL 😂 Has been fun watching the 2 boat crews working and playing together over the last few months, now what will you three do to entertain yourselves if you haven't got Carol watching that you didn't get into too much mischeif?
Definitely expected some teething problems. Confident that Liam will sort. Going to miss Pete and Caroline but yeah, easier to get into mischief now 😂. Have a lovely evening ❤
Ours was doing the same as yours. Batteries alarms going off shutting things down. Even though the batteries were charged, the readings were wrong so it was shutting down. We updated and downloaded. It would reset it and resolve it for a bit. But it was down to the wiring in the end.
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 yes ours is resolved running perfectly. Batteries show fully charged by 10am each day. I can send you what they did to resolve it. It took a while to get there but once they knew what to do it was sorted in an hour or two . I will message you my phone number on FB and I'll send you the information. It may help
It’s all a learning curve guys and once you have mastered it everything will be fine.Good job your friends were with you when you lost power. Have a fantastic weekend and thanks for sharing.
Hi both hope ur well. Myself & Deborah was saddened to see you had issues, but hopefully all sorted. Like with any new technology things will go wrong occasionally. Are you 100% sure an electric boat was the correct way forward for a continuous cruiser, as comewinter with no solar ur generator will be running 24/7. On another note we love you guys & hoping you get these teething problems sorted. Xxx
Hey Paul. Mostly sorted now. Just need to see if Liam’s plan for the batteries works. Definitely knew we would have teething issues. Guess until we do a winter, we won’t know how it pans out. Fingers crossed we haven’t chosen incorrectly. Glad you enjoy the vlogs guys. Have a fab weekend. ❤
All interesting stuff, glad to see you got the power issue resolved. You must've been very pleased to get a decent phone signal. We've been on the Stratford-upon-Avon canal since Sunday and had to rely on using pub WiFi because the mobile phone signal has been virtually nonexistent. Currently moored smile or two north of the Blue Bell Cider House, which has amazing home cooked and well presented food. (Definitely recommend a visit) Very quiet moorings, which will hopefully give us a good start heading back to Alvechurch Marina Saturday to hand the boat over on Sunday Morning. Pity we didn't bump into you but maybe catch you on another trip.
Ouch, no power and coming to a dead stop. So pleased you sorted it out, it must have been so worrying for you both. Lovely cruise, Thank you for sharing. All the best guys. ❤Stephen
Evening guys. Bit of an exciting trip in more ways than one. Luckily you managed to get the technical side sorted out on the boat. And no doubt to say goodbye to your travelling companions was a bit upsetting. Dexter still looking good for his age. Hope all is well otherwise. Take care and enjoy the weekend. Xx
Hey Bill. It was scary, I can tell you. How ironic that a diesel boat needed to save us 😂. We parted from Pete and Caroline today. Sad, but we know we have life long friends there. Dexter is doing well, slowing now though. Hope you guys are good x
Great vlog guys, thanks Paul & Anthony. Glad the boat is sorted. Middle of the night here, couldn’t sleep so here I am. Love from downunder. 🩷🩷🙋♀️🙋♀️
Thanks guys for taking us along on this fantastic cruise, you were lucky that Pete and Caroline were with you though. I hope that everything is sorted now, have a great weekend. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Definitely lucky Stevie. Ironic that an electric boat gets saved my a diesel one 😂 one more thing needs resolving then fingers crossed that will be everything. Have a good weekend ❤
Hi, gentlemen! Quite the excitingly adventurous cruise! Love to see 2 boats in a lock. Always looks tricky. Great views. Great sounds of nature. Have a fantastic week! 💚💚💚
Never a dull moment eh?! Glad you got it sorted out. I assume the software updates happen automatically. Perhaps not the best way to go if it brings the boat to a standstill!
Definitely not Mike. Really chuffed it is sorted. I think they must have occurred automatically but assume they don’t usually bring the system to a standstill 🤷♂️. All’s well that ends well I guess. Have a fab weekend ❤
Soon this will all be easy peasy for you both. Glad to see you have such a great “IT Crowd” backing you up! I’m enjoying learning along with you. Thanks for sharing your tech learning journey. 😊
A friend has been watching you guys for ages and was seriously considering an electric boat. But they have seen you have had more problems with the electric boat than you ever did with the diesel before. They are at an age where they are not tech savvy and don’t want the problems you have had. So it’s diesel for them.
I totally get that. I sometimes feel that way when things go wrong. Love the silent cruising but I guess even connecting the wifi for the update can be tricky if you aren’t a little tech savvy. Didn’t mean to put your friend off but we do like to be honest and not gloss over the bad stuff. Good luck with their boat. Have a great weekend ❤
Liam would have had to foot the costs of a couple of therapy sessions had I had been manning the boat when that happened. Bravo to you both for your calm working out of the problem. Let’s hope they don’t download new software as often as Apple does. 🥴 Sending love from Montana. 🙌😘🐶
Thanks Michael. It was stressful but beyond our control. That was my worry with the constant updates, however, the other week, Vetus came and discovered there were a corrupt file and have now sorted so 🤞. Hope you are keeping well and loving your new home ❤
Hi guys, that’s one thing that probably worries me about electric cars electric boats. If you lose power you’re buggered and I suppose it’s the same if you have a diesel motor but most the time diesel motors will always run. I suppose in England with all those overcast days probably be hard to Charge your batteries anyway love your videos. Keep up the good work. Keep those thrusters going cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 from the big island 🏝️
Hey Cliff. I agree, less to go wrong with a diesel engine. Anything techie is bound to have glitches I guess. We get some great solar days in the U.K. but yeah, we are also known for our rain which does make charging more difficult. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy. Have a lovely weekend ❤
How frustrating for you both. Vetus really need to look at this situation. It’s unreasonable to have to keep updating the firmware. What if you didn’t have signal to download. So glad you got it running in the end. I will keep an eye out for you guys around Stratford.
Hey Spence. It really was frustrating. They actually came to the boat the other week and think it may have been a corrupt file which they have resolved so 🤞. Left Stratford today. We are on the Avon slowly heading back North for winter. Hope you have a good weekend ❤
There used to be an opinion ,when buying a new car here, get a car built on Wednesday or at least Thursday . This was before robotic factories became a thing so people built them. So they said don’t buy a car built on Monday, everyone was hung over and tired from the weekend, same thing for Tuesday but they were starting to pay better attention. Wednesday everyone was back in tune and getting things done properly. Thursday it was not too bad but people were starting to make plans for the weekend so not right on the job. Friday they were just dragging through the day and lots of mistakes happened then, they suspected a pub lunch had some influence. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out soon and in the meantime having such great friends is ,Im sure a big comfort. 🤞Good luck🤞 It’s been a busy week here, with family away I had the two big dogs to look after😳. I love them but the puppy is just a little too much for me now, chews everything not nailed down, needs out 10 or more times a day just in case which means many trips upstairs which my knees don’t like. Thankfully they are back and I’ve told them I’m not looking after the huge puppy again, he’s a Labradoodle. I’ve been gathering bits and pieces over the last year so I can do some Stain glass work again and I did get set up to go, I’ve started the first piece, nothing fancy, just to get my skills back. So far it’s going well except for my helpful assistant 🐈⬛ Jynx who has to inspect anything new thoroughly. Every time I foil pieces and lay them on the pattern he thinks they need to be rearranged. Today is another rainy day…again so I’m baking cookies even though it’s warm it will dry up some of the humidity . Take care, be safe and well.🙋🏼♀️🥰
😂. I am sure there was some truth in that Dawn. Definitely getting things sorted. Aww love dogs. Can see how a puppy would be a bit much. Dexter was so chilled as a pup to be honest. Ooh lovely. I love a home baked cookie. Have a lovely evening and take care ❤
Hello Guys Is yours the first hybrid electric boat that your boatbuilders have done? Always a hassle when things breakdown, hope things go better for you. Best wishes.
Hey. No he has done others but they aren’t live aboards so not used in the same way I guess. We are confident it will all get resolved, just a pain when it happens. Have a great weekend ❤
Great vlog as always guys never seems long enough just get into it and it ends roll on next week not sticking nose in but I think you not got battery's I think you need two more battery's I bet that would sort your power out as you seem power happy with power thuster you and your husband try not using it for a week see how it goes please don't take it wrong way just trying to help keep up great vlogs guys
Cheers Nicholas. Glad you enjoy. We love people sharing thoughts. The power we have should be ample, it seems to be one battery doesn’t charge to the same extent as the others but discharges more quickly than the others. Liam has a plan that hopefully will reduce the difference between the highest and lowest state of charge so 🤞. It is weird, we had issues with a bow thruster once and went a whole 6 months without. I think if you know it is there, you use it. Have a lovely weekend ❤
Nah then, ay up me ducks. Not good seeing your power glitches, just try to make sure you've at least got enough power for the kettle to make a brew ☕ Ay a good 'un chaps 🙂👍
Sorry for your tech problems. It made me wonder if there is not a simpler electric setup that does not use computers or software (though like Anthony, I love new tech and am fascinated with working it all out). The problem with software is that you are at the mercy of a company posting updates and such without your knowledge! (Does even the diesel backup need software????) In any case, thanks for another great video, and I hope you three have a lovely week.
Thanks James. The reliance of software does lend you open to issues. Am with you though, I like to embrace tech. Don’t think the generator relies on software. Fingers crossed the plan Liam has for the batteries resolves the issues. Have a lovely weekend ❤
Great to see you guys & Dexter today at Stratford, hope the rest of your journey went well. We found our way in the end, Best wishes from the 3 lost cyclists! 😂😊
Hey guys. Lovely to see you all too. We said how nice it was to see a family out enjoying the day together. Hope you haven’t only just got in 😂. Have a lovely weekend ❤
Great video as always shame your having problems but sure there just teething problems. Only thing I have noticed is that you seem to be using the bow thrusters to line up for bridges or is that just motor noise?
Thanks Neil. Fingers crossed they are just teething problems. It must be the motor noise as we would rarely use the bow thruster for lining up for bridges. Hope you have a good weekend ❤
Hi there. Did you not mention on a previous vlog thst one battery was running out of power while the other two were fine? How was that resolved? Another quick question whT happened to your previous boat?
Hey Phil. Exactly that. One battery charges much slower and discharges faster. Liam is on it and has a possible solution after speaking to the battery manufacturer so that is being done Monday fingers crossed it works. We sold the previous boat. Have a great weekend ❤
Vetus updates your system settings with an update? Seems to me this is very much on Vetus IMHO. What happens if your mid cruise on the Trent or Ribble and that happens...? As a minimum you should be able to decide when such an update is applied so you have chance to verify critical settings are not overwritten before casting off.
Hey Mark. I think there were a few issues that culminated in the motor cut out. Vetus came to the boat a few weeks ago to sort the motor issues. Fingers crossed they are resolved. The other issue is one of batteries not balancing with the others. Liam is trying something on Monday so hopefully this will resolve it. Being on a river with the motor cutting out was our concern. Have a lovely weekend ❤
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 Thanks for the reply Anthony. Hopefully you get the teething issue sorted. Perhaps Liam can put something like a raspberry in that stores your critical electrical system settings so any future software updates can pull the saved settings from the Pi? Best of luck to you both 👍
When anything goes wrong, "Stay frostie" as the Americans say and you did. Excellent vid once again, good content and a pin sharp picture. Look forward to the next one.❤️
Hey. We have 4 x 200ah lithium. The batteries are used for both domestic and propulsion, which is why we have the back up diesel generator. Our bottom battery seems to lag behind the others for charge but is the first to discharge. 🤷♂️.
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 Hi Anthony, 800Ah seems very little for propulsion and domestic. (If that is 8 x 100Ah @ 12V giving 200Ah at 48V?) I would suspect that’s why you’re having problems. I usually fit 320Ah just for domestic on a modern boat with a fair bit of domestic load. And for propulsion I think I saw you were using 47A at one point so that would only give you about 3 hours cruising at best with the other loads. (Of course if it is 800Ah @ 48V eg. 4 x 200Ah or 8 x 100Ah 48V batteries then you should be fine) I’m sure you’ll get it sorted out and electric is definitely the way to go. I’m all electric myself, for obvious reasons and I’m very happy with my decision. I love watching your adventures. Happy cruising to you both.. Ooer missus :-/ :-))
@@gillywild I am sure Liam told us we have 4 x800Ah at 48V. He thinks that by rewiring with a bus bar, the batteries should charge more evenly. They are doing it Monday so we will let you know. Glad you enjoy the vlogs and pleased you are loving electric too. Have a good weekend ❤️
Hi, Out of curiosity, what was the reason behind the choice of going for an electric engine? I am not for or against in any way just thought i would like to know your reason. Thanks
It was mentioned as an option for us and we like to try and embrace new tech. Still confident that the issues will get resolved and when it works, it really is lovely to cruise quietly. 😊

We knew there would be glitches Lesley. Definitely a good job we had Pete and Caroline with us. Have a fab weekend ❤
Glad you got the power back 😊have a nice weekend
Thanks Christopher. You too ❤
Technology is not my friend. So happy you sorted your power out. You will miss your travelling companions. Thank you and as always cheers.
😂. Don’t know what you mean. 😊. This one has the ability to stay on longer. I always get blamed 😉. Have a great evening. ❤

Perhaps an example where automatic updates are not a great idea? Glad you got yourselves sorted out. Love this new boat with it’s technology :)

That's a wicked Moiré pattern appearing on the video from Anthony's polo shirt, it's a shame it doesn't look like that in real life!
😂. Paul was complaining about the effect my shirt had. Glad you liked it 😉. Have a lovely weekend ❤
A lovely vlog, once again. How is Dexter now? Have the meds helped? ❤
It’s to your credit that you are vlogging these problems, you could’ve just glossed over them.
I assume these updates are automatic so they wouldn’t know when they occur 🤷♂️. Please it seems to be sorted now. Hope you have a lovely weekend ❤
Thank goodness you were cruising with friends that darn software!! At least the boat builder is only a quick phone call away and they got you on the move again. Hope next week is all good take care❤

You are more patient than me…lot of money for too many probs. Great vlog though apart from your difficulties .
We are patient guys 😊. Glad you enjoyed the vlog. Have a fab evening ❤
You like your bow thrusters, try using the tiller to steer.
Yes thanks we do use the Tiller we just don’t film that as much 👍
More than capable of using the tiller to steer, we have both done our helmsman course?

Sorry to hear about the problems but an understandable problem that was just waiting to happen. Now that you have found the problem Liam and Oakums can watch out for it on other boats. Being a leader sometimes carries risks of finding new ways to get into trouble LOL 😂

Ours was doing the same as yours. Batteries alarms going off shutting things down. Even though the batteries were charged, the readings were wrong so it was shutting down. We updated and downloaded. It would reset it and resolve it for a bit. But it was down to the wiring in the end.

Hi both hope ur well. Myself & Deborah was saddened to see you had issues, but hopefully all sorted. Like with any new technology things will go wrong occasionally.
(Definitely recommend a visit)
Very quiet moorings, which will hopefully give us a good start heading back to Alvechurch Marina Saturday to hand the boat over on Sunday Morning.
Pity we didn't bump into you but maybe catch you on another trip.

🤞Good luck🤞
It’s been a busy week here, with family away I had the two big dogs to look after😳.

❤
Just out of curiosity, how much battery capacity do you have and is the domestic separate from the traction? Marine electrician asking.
