- I get some Narrowboat alterations done to my Cratch cover by Stitchmilitz Rips and Zips adding windows to make the bow of the boat a lovely light room for Bonny to watch the world go by. I also take my old campervan to a festival - Unity Fest where I DJ a couple of sets and meet up friends. Bonny gets to spend time with big dogs and her socialising is improving every day!

After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Pirate Boat

Bonnie hit the jackpot when she got you as a mum and you look so happy. That's great progress she's made, not easy considering her background.

You are a good mud-rider Heidi, because you didn't make your wheels spin, which was the BIG mistake that most of the others made, as spinning wheels dig themselves in, if you take it slow, these risks are much reduced, so I say :"Well done my lady", it was good to see the lovely and clearly happy Bonny too.
Heidi, thank you for being the most consistent Narrow-boating channel on RUclips, whether it’s ‘fiddling with yer flaps’, or getting down with David in your back room, your easy unforced comedy and your honest and self stylised vlogs put you squarely on the top of my list. Some channels on here just whinge moan and seem to do nothing but complain? you just crack on. I’ve been on 8 years now, never looked back and quite honestly have never stressed once. It’s an incredible life, made even better once a week by the Narrowboat pirate. Great vlog …. Loved it!

I use citronella oil in hurricane lamps works very well on calm evenings camping .
On the canal boat Rum Wench, Pirate Heidi does her trips and quite often with her pals she scoffs their fish and chips. The new horse is there for cutting her logs and Bonnie's getting used to meeting big dogs. Her days away in her Symphony van, playing tunes at a festival as loud as she can. Back home on her boat she'd no breezy gaps, coz Melitza had been and stitched up her flaps. How rude. Xxx you do make us laugh girl, sending love, Liz and Dave xx

I love the new windows! That makes such a difference and so perfect for Bonnie, who is doing so much better. Seeing her with the lovely Alsatian was so heart warming. Melitza is amazing. To be able to do that with that lovely old machine and then to turn out such delicious looking fish and chips in a small pan on a tiny stove on the towpath... Winning at life.
I've just spent 3 days in a field for Fairport's Cropredy Convention. It was a really great festival this year, superb acts. But we got all the weather apart from ice. I feel weather beaten. The trouble with a good festival spent with friends is that I don't know what to do with myself the next day (ie today). At least the well drained site and the limited rain on the actual days (poured for weeks beforehand) meant we did not have mud to contend with although the ground felt strangely spongy and the grass was knee high at the start!
That you just so happen to be an ace DJ on top of everything else you can do is awesome! You talk about getting older but you are weathering well because when I was new I thought you were about 35 and that's still how old I think you look.

Another interesting vlog. I have a couple of suggestions for the campervan (I cannot remember her name). You might want to apply some 'Rain-X' to her windscreen. It is a water repellent, and it can greatly improve the visibility in poor weather. I have been using it for nearly 20 years now (on both my company van and my personal car). You might also consider heavy duty snow chains. They do provide good traction in the snow, and may work in muddy conditions (I have chains for both vehicles, again).
Bonny is doing brilliantly with other dogs. I think part of that is because you are a calming influence, and are providing her with a stable home life (even if home does not remain in the same place).

@@TheNarrowboatPirate I have found it is cheapest at Asda (around £5 a bottle, which should last a couple of years). The bottle is yellow with a black cap. You get the windscreen as clean as you can, and then you apply the Rain-X. Leave it until it goes hazy, and then polish it off. One coat should last for a few months (I usually apply a couple of coats). Because the water cannot stick to the glass the rain drops go consistently round. Depending on the rake of the windscreen the wind will blow the droplets off the windscreen.
There are advantages with Rain-X, but there are also a couple of disadvantages. The obvious advantage is good visibility, and I have also found it is easier to scrape ice off the windscreen. The biggest disadvantage is that (because of the improved visibility) you may not realise how slippery the road conditions have become, with another being that, if it is dark and drizzling lightly, you may not realise it is drizzling until you pass under a street light, when the tiny droplets will fluoresce.

@@TheNarrowboatPirate Rain-X has several products, including a glass cleaner with added water repellent. I prefer to use the 'neat' water repellent, as I can then be certain I have cleaned the windscreen before applying the Rain-X.
I have heard that some people use Rain-X on their shower glass, for the same reason.

I've been a freelance music journalist since I was 21 for many well known music magazines, and started one of my own 5 years ago called Stargazer Music Magazine, so that's where the name comes from. Now I'm 57, I'm wanting to slow things up somewhat, continue life as a journalist, creative writer and author of poetry, and just chill and go for the adventure to enhance my creativity. The name Stargazer also comes from my love of the universe and the stars, and with no light pollution on the canals I can harness that too, so the name will follow me if I do it.

We have been watching a lot of narrowboat videos and folk with dogs. What I don't see is boaters carrying dog bags after picking up. How do you handle dog waste? Just wondering
Always use dog bags .. there are lots of bins along the canals …I don’t think anyone is going to show their dog having a poo and them picking it up in a video 😂😂 I have shown me stepping in poo when stepping off the boat in a few videos and how it’s disgusting and irresponsible

Great vlog! You look great with a bit of lippy on, (thats not to say you don't normally). Bonny's doing well. Citronella oil or lemon grass oil ( on exposed wrists or neck ) also helps prevent you getting bitten to death.
