I used to walk through this tunnel almost every Sunday with my grandad in the mid and late seventies. I loved it in there , it felt haunting and exciting. I really enjoyed the video and seeing in there again.

Interesting tunnel looks like linear movement also looking back to the entrance a definite shape change. Excellent coverage thanks for sharing 👍👍

Very interesting. Walked this tunnel when it was all free and open in 1997. In the east end cutting, a brick arch bridge had been demolished and lumps of arch shaped rubble were still lying around.

Nice little tunnel to add to my bucket list. Condition looks fair, probably mining subsidence has caused a bit of movement at the section joints. These tunnels were generally built in about 5m sections & movement can be taken up by the joint. Looks like it has an invert too; that is the brickwork runs right under the floor so the tunnel is a complete brick lined tube. Nice little brick arch drain. The far end is blocked with steel reinforced concrete, & the wood above is the remsins of the formwork into which the concrete was poured.

Absolutely agree!! That tunnel is an accident waiting to happen. Braver than me to venture in there, and amazed its not sealed at both ends.

Definitely ! Yh it needs to be sealed properly in my eyes
I was deffo unaware of the condition inside I would have worn a hard hat never wanted to leave a tunnel so fast !

Damn, that tunnel is a sleeping, crumbling nightmare! Just glad you both got out intact (unlike the tunnel)

Great video. Well done and brave for going inside. I think if you gave gradients in 1 in 250 etc instead of a percentage, most of us would be able to picture this with a clearer understanding.

Interesting. Subsidence has clearly affected it, but its not falling in anytime soon. It was built back when things were meant to be permanent. No more mining so no more subsidence is likely. From the graffiti and rubbish, its been well used over the years by visitors
