All his elementary teacher, hated his jokes, pranks, comics, drawings and him. They told him “GROW UP MR. PILKEY”!!! In the end Dav got the last laugh. Respect to this man. I loved his books as a kid and I still do years later all grown up.
I’m 21 and Dav Pilkey’s books inspired me to draw. Because of him I pursued a degree in illustration and now run multiple art accounts and a RUclips channel!!!! He’s the best!!!
I remember my 6th Grade teacher thought the books were funny but she only counted 1 book report on 1 of those books as half a book report. So in order to get the full credit of one book report, I had to do two book reports of Captain Underpants. That was the only thing that annoyed me. But to be fair she also did the same thing with the Junie B. Jones. My point is that my teachers at my school were ok with the books and even the librarian was alright with them too but I did hear stories of the Dav Pilkey books getting banned in schools nationwide for stupid reasons like the toilet humor or that characters encourage unlawful behavior and stuff like that.
TBH before I discovered Calvin and Hobbes, Mr.Pilkey is what inspired me to draw when I was a kid. Now I'm currently pursuing a career as a cartoonist. Thanks for teaching me how to draw Dav.

Feel like I'm living a second childhood through my sons eyes and the things he enjoys.... Can't thank pilkey enough for making reading fun for my child. He's a modern day legend in our house.

I forgot just how hugely influential this guy was to my development as a kid. I actually ended up writing my own episode of Captain Underpants that my teacher's actually were pretty impressed by. Learning more about him is pretty eye opening because I relate quite a bit.
