Do mining engineers need to know how to code?

To be an top mining engineer, coding could be an important skill to have as it allows you to maximize the utility of mine planning software or calculations. Knowing how to code will allow you to automate certain processes in mine planning software if there isn’t a built-in function for it already. Similarly, knowing VBA may allow you to cut down time-consuming, repetitive processes, and allow you to focus on the strategic side of things. Commonly used in data analysis, simulation, and modeling in the mining industry, these are the different languages that mining software scripting uses:
      Vulcan: Perl - Surpac: TCL - MineMax: Python - Spry: C# - Alastri: C# - Excel: VBA - Oracle/SQL Server: SQL

@@blueslime5457 I've never seen a college class schedule that forces mining engineering students to learn how to code. I think it's a helpful skill that improves your chances of being hired (and is practical) but it's not necessary
