  • On Sunday the 25th of October 2015, The Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) ran the second of eight Kiama Picnic Train tours from Central to Kiama and return. The tour was hauled by LVR Steam Locomotive 5917 completely unassisted by diesels. This tour is a recreation of a series of tours run in the 80's by the Lachlan Valley Railway.
This video features shots taken at Kiama of 5917 being turned on the recently restored Kiama turntable, and serviced by LVR volunteers in preparation for the return trip of the Picnic Train to Sydney Central.

I used to live opposite the turntable in the days of steam. It took only two men to turn the loco, the driver and the fireman.

+Edward Terrill That would have been great to see in the days of steam! I was wondering why they had to bring in a car load of Sydney Trains personal, LVR had plenty of people able to turn the loco
