I would hate to be in a band with Jimmy. I have been listening to him play since early ARU days and I find that besides ARU, which was more than the sum of it's parts, all I do is wait for everyone else to get out of the way so I can hear Jimmy just go off. Lol Great song and no offence to those other great musicians. Sorry, it's probably just me.
It's not just you, I totally agree. That's why it was so great to see him during the "Farewell USA" John McLaughlin tour they did in 2017... Jimmy's band opened (they were incredibly awesome), then John McLaughlin and the 4th dimension did their awesome set and at the end the two bands merged in a huge band that played material from the first Mahavishnu Orchestra albums. Two drummers (3 at times because John's keyboard player is also an incredible drummer), two bassists, 2 or three keyboards depending on when one was playing violin and the other was playing drums... Something truly incredible. Maybe the best concert I've ever seen in my life. PLUS: it was for free, on a beach in the Caribbean, in Playa del Carmen, Mexico... I literally had to pinch myself The jam band scene is cool and everything, but I must say that Jimmy is wasted there. His skills, phrasing and tone go way beyond the requirements of jam bands... I'd love to see him totally shine with his own band, he's one of the best players around today
Loads of technically able guitarists out there - but not many with something heartfelt to say with their own unique guitar 'voice' - Rock on Jimmy!
