If you're going to compress the springs as shown in the video, get yourself a good set of spring compressors. Also, turning the compressor screws can be time consuming if not using a powered impact driver. Here's one more video you may want to watch before going through the job:ruclips.net/video/brzDRlApKlU/видео.html
No ... the problem was isolated to the upper strut mount. The strut had good pressure during compression and rebound when tested with the strut spring removed.
Hi, HMP.... what brand strut mount and bearing did you end up installing and how are they working out? I plan on replacing mine on a 03 Odyssey with Honda oem or kyb aftermarket. Still contemplating on what to go with. Thanks
@@barney9692 KYB is probably better than Honda OEM. Believe they give you a lifetime warranty. For better handling and slightly stiffer ride, go with Sachs (European part provider). Either of these are of high quality and are not cheap. For strut mounts, you can choose from Anchor, Monroe, Gabriel, KYB and MOOG. They are all good.
My driver side strut makes a popping noise when turning at low speed. There only a year old. I replaced the OE Honda with kyb. It’s been driving me nuts for 3 months, today I ordered new loaded struts from Gabriel. I don’t have spring compressors, so I’ll just change the whole thing.
Sorry to hear that you had to put up with an aggravating noise for so long. It appears that there's a lot of stress of the upper strut mount bearings; and if they're not high quality bearings, they'll give out and make noise. The strut in this video was a little over a year old. I now make it a practice to replace the upper mount with the strut. Complete loaded struts are easy to install. The only question is will all the components last?
@@hardlymovingpro i am hoping thats it.. i cracked my windshield trying to pull off the damn wipers.. thanks.. i will find a mechanic to do strut mount bearings.
Watching spring compression raises my BP.
No big deal IMHO.
Thanks for the video! I just replaced my links and am amazed at how nice and tight the van drives now.
2012 Odyssey with 136k
You bet!
Cool! Just what I needed to work on our 06 Ody. Replacing all 4 struts/shocks next weekend. Thanks for the video 👍
Thanks for sharing this video with us. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks ... sure will!
Neat trick with the paper and nuts.
It works!
Thanks. I'm considering doing this on my 2012 Odyssey.

If you don’t have a magnet the bolts for the wipers are 17mm take them off and the plastic comes off exposing the top of the strut. For easier access.
You can place a piece of paper towel between the socket and nut to pull the nut out.
If i went that far i would replace strut if i had it on hand. Nice work though.
Complete struts can get a little pricey.
Would that coil spring compressor work on 2011 Honda Pilot springs?
Yes.
@@hardlymovingpro Great, thanks for the reply and the video!
So did you replace the shock? That part didn't appear to happen. If not why? Are they not replaceable???

Hardly Moving Productions can the upper strut mount be the source of noise/clunk when driving over bumps?
What Model FUEL is that Battery tool?
Links to the tools I used is in the "Show More" text description of this video.
I will just purchased a new set of complete shocks 🤨
That's what I did until the strut mount started making noise a year after it was installed.

i have a 2011 ody and it creaks like a boat.. only 70K miles.
All it takes is running into a good sized pot hole to damage the strut mount(s).
