- We will never kill one of our roosters with this method again. We researched and thought from watching other videos, that it would be easier - IT IS NOT. Killing is not easy, and I want to think it should NEVER be easy, but it can be less emotional, at least for us it NEEDs to be. We had no idea that killing our first rooster would be so emotional.
Homesteading is not for the sissy! It takes a lot of lessons to learn what it truly means to be a homesteader! This is just one of the many lessons we are learning. We started thinking this was simple, no real equipment needed, etc. We will start by always using a CONE (we have a highway caution cone that will work great) in the future simply to help keep the bird calm and not under duress.

Don't name, talk, or show any kind of emotion toured an animal. You are going to butcher. And use a chopping block. Use a string around the head, hold the bird by its feet, and use a hatchet or machete to cut the head off in one swing and toss the bird away from you to keep the blood away from you. I wish you luck
That is hard for us... but we are still going to cull them; each will care for their flock with nourishment. Giving circle
We have one to many roosters, right now, ourselves. I am not emotionally prepared to cull one of them at all. I feel their lives have value, and their sacrifice needs to be appreciated. Kosher killing gives respect for their sacrifice. It doesn't make it easier to do.

I feel for both of you. My mother in law used to twist their necks my husband won’t eat anything with feathers he was traumatized because he would have to pluck them.
It is hard... but as long as you understand that it is not a bad thing, just a hard thing; you can get you mind in the right place.
