I wanna point out something about how the development was different for the two games. Yes, they were both pushing for a very tight deadline, but frontiers WAS actually able to get one extra year of development as takashi iizuka practically begged sega to give sonic team just a bit more time to finish the game - something 06 was not granted at all (part of me thinks they gave frontiers an extra year because they remembered what happened with 06).
Any sonic gaming dev team asking for more time should automatically get it considering every sonic game the last 2!decades or so has been rushed and released an unfinished nearly unplayable buggy mess

@@cwavygaming6615 Mm, nope. Knuckles and Rouge's wall climbing is broken, which you'll find me criticizing every time 06 comes up into discussion. The other 2 are just crap straight up. For example, in Frog Forest in there is a segment right before the long crocodile chase where you're required to use the light speed dash, that almost NEVER works as intended on PS2. I've played Heroes 4 times start to finish, all 4 times I've lost dozens of lives there just because you press the light speed dash and the game just refuses to execute it without killing you in the process, it's genuinely just broken, the button press doesn't get you to where you need to go and there's nothing you can do about it. To my knowledge, the only mandatory light speed dash in 06 is the entrance to Wave Ocean which is not only a straight line (so no "throwing across the map") but it also works perfectly fine EVERY SINGLE TIME. I've played 06 5 times start to finish, 3 times on PS3 and 2 on the 360, it's turbo mega playable. Whatever hate you have for the game can't invalidate my FIVE playthroughs across both systems it released on, nor the playthroughs of 3 of my friends that played it for the first time in which I was present, which were also for the most part spotless experiences that they loved. I am objectively correct because my EIGHT personal experiences are nonnegotiable, they aren't up for debate or interpretation, they are factual reality. 06 is only broken, like half of this franchise is, when you are speedrunning or seeking out bugs and glitches with set-ups that require prior knowledge and oftentimes practice.

Yeah, surprisingly these two games are actually very similar! The similarities go even further than that: enemy designs look cool, both have human female protagonists, controls are similarish, playable characters, open ended design philosophy, lots of bugs at launch, janky animation, non-existent physics, character models, slow homing attack, hub world town missions are similar to the puzzles and koco tasks, and the gem abilities and moves from the shop are similar to the combat moves you unlock from the skill tree! Yeah, you can tell with Frontiers they were trying to be more ambitious and faithful to their roots! Also, I disagree, I think Frontiers still manages to look cool in quite a few gameplay moments, especially a the combat and boss fights, and some parts of the environment do stand out and can catch a player’s attention easily, such as that underground area, forgot where that is. Although it goes without saying that Frontiers does look emptier because it is just bigger, with everything spread out, since it is open zone, so it is up to the player to explore as much as they can, and thus I think the game is presented well overall in that sense. Plus the pop-in isn't that bad, it's much more egregious in the Final Horizon areas. And let’s not mention that original reveal trailer for the game, where they intentionally made it look as bad as possible! I also think the gameplay in 06 can be really fun generally! Speaking of which, Frontiers also has a lot of similarities with Rise of Lyric, surprisingly! That is something worth talking about!
Frontiers lacks what Unleashed had Accurate ambient lighting, example his socks stay bright white in just about every lighting condition especially in Cyber space, the sky sanctuary (sunset) environment There’s a mod that improves it and brings it closer to Unleashed it’s called “Improved Ambient Lighting”
