Its good to see someone excited about running their business and sharing the info. Thank you for the video.
Thanks, Charley that was really some good information that the average Joe like myself would possibly not have thought about. You’re a pretty cool dude and I really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing! 👍
Thanks, glad you find em helpful :-)
Second video of yours I watched today. Awesome your helping all of us. I laughed at your end story, and the happiness you felt.
Best part of the video is when you start telling about your plans for the future: from cutting the tree to lumber in a day! and start to shine. That's passion for a trade. :D
I've watched a couple of your posts, great video. I run a tree service and am seriously contemplating purchasing a sawmill. I think your on the right track as far as offering custom milling onsite for consumers. Its a fruit that I think is ripe for the picking, especially when dealing with heirloom trees that have sentimental value to the client, if you were closer I would like to work with you. After 22 years in business, word of mouth still trumps all marketing, however as you stated, your business needs to be easily found when someone looks online. Good to see things are playing out well for you.
Great Video! A lot of good info
Great video thanks
👍
Good stuff, friend.
I use the quick books self employed, great app, makes it easy,
Awesone video!! This has been pretty helpful for our future endevor in the next year. Not that it is sawmilling, instead farming to a niche market but the information is basically the same for starting off with a small buisness I would think. Thanks again!
yes, much of this is generic stuff for any small biz, glad to hear it is helpful!
I owned a small business in Connecticut selling outdoor wood furnaces . The cost of doing business in CT was high. The business cards were great. Another great video . I'm not sure if I could make enough money in CT to justify starting a small business . Most people I know work for cash , what ever their business is .
Working under the table is a topic in itself, but I've found many clients appreciate that I run our business legitimately and that adds a lot of comfort, which makes it easier to charge appropriately! No matter what your endeavor, the market has to be able to support your expenses
thanks for the info, very helpful. Going to your 'pricing' video now which is what I need
Great videos. I’m thinking about starting a sawmill business and have found your videos very helpful.
Great to hear! Glad they're helpful, keep us posted on your progress
Very good info Thank You
great video thanks for sharing
Hey I noticed from your business card you are in western NC like myself. Love to pick your brain, wanting to buy a sawmill for our farm.
Great video. here are some tips....NEVER miss any of your quarterly tax payments. You'll draw the attention of the government, and you don't want that. Watch you monthly UI and Pension Plan contribution plans too, as if you miss one, the government charges interest. Be careful with your vehicle deductions. My account would not even allow me to claim my car, as it "red flags" my business for a possible Audit, so we only claim mileage and gas, which is still very helpful. I did get audited 5 yrs ago, and after 4mths of hell, I got through it without any penalties. Remember to setup a home office, as you can claim a % of your home heating, electricity, gas, water, internet, property tax and insurance based on the size of the office to the total house size.....and as you have 3 sub-businesses, you can easily pick the biggest room in the house, and call it the 3 offices.
Great info! What is your biggest expense?
Not counting payments; Blades
Good stuff! Did I miss the segment on Insurance costs/shopping?
Just kidding...good video.
General Liability for me is about $700/year, which covers the sawmilling and my contracting work. there's more to it than that which will be covered soon
Just got a mill, from Missouri what do you charge for your services.
short answer; as much as I can get away with. long answer is too long for a comment reply. I've got a lot of videos going into this and an ebook as well if you're needing more info
check out wave accounting it is a great accounting application
I put my company name on my car and my truck so every time I drive them it is a write off. As advertisement
Its too easy to not do!
