Wait, what! They make a diesel stove? That's great, the "one fuel" idea. That smooth cook top looks nice, too. I'm thinking, the possibilities are almost unlimited... Umm, do they make a diesel toilet? Oh, hey! My binge watching has finally gotten me to the year 2021 in your videos! -Burt in NJ
It does look nice! I thought we’d never get it started... I’ve never installed anything like this before! But alas! We have a cooktop! At this point if they made a diesel toilet I’d put one in!
No diesel toilet but we have an incinerating toilet! If you want heat and hot water check out Bobil Vans. We have their system and its brilliant. Heatx water either via our diesel heater or excess solar.
I have had the Webasto Cooktop in my Trakka Sprinter campervan (Australia) for over 10 years although I use the Truma system for my heating and hot water and both units use diesel , and I also tow my Stabicraft trailerboat which also uses the Webasto for cooking and heating
Awesome! So great to only have to worry about one type of fuel!! How has the webasto been for you? Any complaints? How has maintenance been over the years?
Hi guys, good video, I plan on installing one of them in my master van. Did the exhaust just go straight through the floor and attach under van? You did not show the final exhaust outlet location. Cheers Tim
Hi thank you for the introduction and your time a nice idea not to keep searching for gas all the time. Are you still using the system and stilly happy with at after while? regards
Thanks a lot for the video! Do you have an extra video on that? :) I love the idea, but a bit worried about the time it takes to heat up + the price :D
Unfortunately we do not… it does take a little longer than an induction and takes longer to cool. Honestly not sure if the price difference is worth it in the long run? Hope it helped a little! Thank you for watching!
With regard to regular maintenance the sprinter which is a 4x4 AWD and it is used as a work vehicle , I studiously. send it to my local boat chandler for service every two years and have only had one nozzle changed on the Webasto Cooktop over the past 10 Years
So the exhaust is super hot, but then there is the cooling air hose around the exhaust.. how hot does that get, and how hot is the air the comes out that cooling hose?
Hello guys I’m building the wabasto to my sprinter and have to build the fuel line to the return line and I’m not sure if is the blue one I see under the van . Thanks to help me cheers
Thanks for the video. I am in the process of removing all propane from a 36 foot diesel pusher. Going to install something similar to an Aquahot for heat and hot water. I have a residential fridge and was looking at a induction cooktop and then saw your video. What I think would be needed in reviews is the total elapse time from when you you decide you need caffeine to when the water boils. You said something like 15 minutes? That is bad. Also what we need to know is over time of use how stinky is this thing. I worry about complaints from neighbors in a campground if I am running a bunch of diesel powered devices. So do a follow up on this.
Thanks for watching! It took about 15 minutes but this was our first start up. We really haven’t trialed it more than that, as we aren’t living in the van yet. We will definitely put some more accurate times to it when we start using it more. We didn’t notice any smell to it when we did use it, but we’d be happy to do an update video! Thanks for the suggestion!
Morning, I hooked up my stove top and heater using a T off of the stock auxiliary line at the tank. Same as you have planned, is your heater in yet? Have you found that your heater takes all the fuel from the lines and drains the stove line? I am just trouble shooting this problem now but I believe this is what is happening to mine.
We did get our heater in! We primed the heater line first and then primed the stove line with the heater running. We haven’t had any problems. However we still haven’t used them extensively, as we are still finishing the build. If you continue to have problems, perhaps place a one way check valve on the stove side so that the heater can’t pull the diesel out of the stove line. Best of luck!
How is your stove holding up? I have had mine since 2019 and the only problem I have had is it occasionally shuts itself off. It will always start up again and work fine. The only thing I have been able to come up with is it does it when my fuel tank is less than half full.
We haven’t had any issues so far even down to a quarter tank… maybe check the filter to make sure there’s nothing impeding the flow? Hope this helps! Thank you for watching!
We just feel like induction uses a lot of power. We also wanted to keep our system primarily 12VDC. We will definitely do some more thorough testing on the stove and share it once our build is done and we start using it regularly.
Do you think this could also be used as a interior heater for your van too? I have seen the Wallas Duo with almost the exact cooktop but they have a cover and the unit can be used as a heater. Maybe add a stove fan? Thoughts?
So I looked this up because I’m not really sure! In the webasto installation manual it states that the cooktop is not intended to be a heater. I’m not sure if there is a big difference in how this is built in comparison to the wallas. Definitely would be cool if it could be used as a heater as well. Have you seen anything out there that is just the fan portion for stoves?
Hi there folks, I am not sure what your reasons are for not going the induction cooktop route as you do have the inverter for this usage, as with the diesel heated stove the surface area stays hotter for a long period of time vers the induction cooktop - it is only hot once you set a pot or kettle on top but cool to the touch with your actual hand.
We really wanted to have a one fuel van that was as energy efficient as possible. We felt that induction would use up a lot of battery and since we plane to be off grid a lot we wanted to be able to conserve as much electricity as possible. The diesel cooktop use very little electricity and very little diesel to operate. With that being said, we definitely agree with the points you made. It takes a while to heat up and cool down. Would we change it if we did it all over again? Maybe. In the near future we definitely plan on doing a follow up video with our thoughts, once we’ve used it a little more.
So far it’s working pretty well for us! In comparison to induction cooktops, the diesel takes longer to heat up and cool down, so it can be a little slower to get started. But the upside is that it takes very little energy to operate so we really appreciate that! Overall we are happy with it
Hey there. Thanks for watching! There is a little bit of a diesel smell when running the unit, but it’s minimal. No where near like you get when running the vehicle, but it’s present nonetheless.
@@WanderfulRevolution thanks for the information! I’d like to buy or build a pop up truck camper with a diesel an would like to use the same fuel for locomotion, climate control and cooking. I think I’d prefer and outdoor diesel stove, but this could be a good option. Thanks!
No we haven’t tried. The manual states it’s not intended for heating spaces. Although it seems overall it is similar to the Wallas, with the exception of a fan. We have an espar heater, but it would be interesting to know if anyone uses this to heat the van as well.
Even if you're van is gas powered it would be way more convenient you can get all the fuel you need in one stop and you don't have to deal with propane thanks or finding a place to get it and deasel is far safer to store .
So far we like it! Although we haven’t used it extensively. Will hopefully be done the build in a couple weeks and then we will be using it a lot more! We will definitely do an update video!
@@WanderfulRevolution great, thank you! I did see all the comments about 15min for boiling water. I'll have to watch more videos and decide if that's something I want to wait for. I love the diesel tap though, interesting it takes so long. Thanks for all your help!
Ah Diesel. Such a wonderful invention. Probably the most safe liquid fuel ever created. I would happily drive with a dieseltank under my ass, no problem. Lithium ion packs? Nope, never. One fuel system campers are the best.
Yep, totally agree. Pressurised propane (LPG) and lithium battery banks are a scary combination - especially in a vehicle that's moving and bumping around. Diesel - one, safe fuel for engine, heating and cooking.
So you need 3 minutes to turn it on and then you need more than 15 minutes to get water boiling ! It’s almost 20 minutes for a cup of tea ?! So 2 hours cooking ! And you can’t turn off one of them ... so this is not a good thing to instal in a camper... with gaz I can use it for 3 months ! That is more than enough ;)
This was our first startup of the unit so we will definitely have to take a closer look at the cooking times when we start to really use it. Even if it takes 15 minute we are ok with it. I would definitely have one like this if it was faster because as you say, it’s much better not to worry for several fuel sources but with a child, things must be done fast ;) and if we want to toast bread or do popcorn it definitely won’t work with this ! I just hope they will improve!! Anyway thank you for your feed back it is very instructive!!

They make a diesel combination air and water heater as well. A couple brands available but they all seem to be clones of one another.

Yes, it goes straight through the floor and is mounted on the backside of the sliding door step. Thanks for watching!
Nice, but what a huge premium for one fuel system.
That is the major downside!!!
Love it! Can't wait to have a cup of tea with you! And you're welcome for the mugs 😁
Thanks! I’d be happy to make you some tea or coffee!!! ❤️

The webasto stove isn’t intended to be used as a heater. Wallas makes a stove with a blower for heat if you are looking for something that does both.
Guys I have the deisel cooker and the espar hydronic heater. Did you tap both of them into the van fuel tank?
Yes… we used a splitter… easy to install!
