All these tips are great esp the first! I’ve learned a bunch of tricks but I still struggle with looking super robotic /not flowy so I should probs just take a step back and just have fun moving in my hoop until things look more comfortable :)
That's good feedback about that. That inspires me to make a video just on flow. You bring up a really great topic. What does a bunch of hoop tricks do for us if we don't have flow. I've watched people do very little with the hoop and I'm completely mesmerized and hypnotized because it looks like they are dancing to a beautiful rhythm. On the other side, just watching a bunch tricks is not very interesting to me. Plus I get burned out doing tricks. Flow is where it's at.
I am experiencing this world of the hula hoop and I love it, I feel like a child again ... I never thought that so many things could be done with a hoop.😅 Thank you for the quality of your videos, (which by the way are the best of internet) they motivate me a lot to practice and keep learning.🤪💜 Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
Much needed! It took me 2 hoops to finally learn to waist hoop. I had a 42 -went to a 44 and it clicked. Now I can hoop on the 42 lol! I was stuck but no more!
Definitely adding this to a playlist ! Great instructions! I love how you explain what happens if we do it wrong.. thank you can’t wait to start my journey!
Great teaching, all in one in single video, great for beginners, you are really focusing on true teaching now let me know about which hula hoop you are using in this video? material and size and weight? Also make an video about different types of hoops sizes and uses. 👌👌👌 you are my favorite hooper.
Awww Shucks!!! You make me smile! Thank you. In the video I'm using a hoop I made myself from plumbers piping at a hardware store. It's an infinity style hoop that folds up. I do have a video about choosing a hoop on my channel, but maybe not like the idea you are suggesting. I have thought about making another video about getting a hoop though.
Omg I was playing around w my friends hoop yesterday. Used to hoop when i was little in the 70s, minimal tricks, but you inspired me to pick it up again! Thank you!
Thank you for all the helpful tricks!! I’m a new hula lover and I appreciate the smaller size hulas, what’s the smallest diameter you think I can get to hand hoop and body hoop? And What size hoop are you using in this tutorial? Thank you so much in advance!
Excited to try this. As a kid I used to hoop for literally hours and was able to do a lot of other things but has been decades! As an older adult it seems like it is lower impact and good for exercise as well. With CO in stay at home mode, I have been looking for something fun to do AND get exercise so am going to try do some of these things. Hoping my 3 teens want to try this too! I like the way you teach these and as someone else said, the green park is nice to see as well. Thank you!!
:) great video to refine the basics! Def some things on the to do ;-) Also, love the green setting, makes me feel I am outside as well :) Hope to see more soon :)
You're an amazing hoop teacher! I'm learning all my 28 kids (8 years old) in school how to hoop (they all got a hoops from Santa Claus) and your tutorials are really good at helping with the difficulties with hooping and what to do about it. Thank you so much!
You rock dude! You're very detailed in explaining moves, very talented and your hair grows fast or you've got a few years under your headband. Grateful thanks ✌
Thank you!! What a great compilation! You are such a competent teacher. I love the idea in a previous comment to do a diy hoop making tutorial. A friend made mine and they are better than anything I could bought. This would be especially fun now (Stay at home order) to make and bless others with a fun “new” hobby to try! Thanks for sharing your hoop wisdom! Keep it up!!
Hey thanks. I do have 2 DIY hula hoop tutorials, one is out of plastic piping and the other is out of cardboard. Both tutorials I recommend checking out on my channel.
Great video! I made a list of all the moves so I can keep practicing even though I've been hooping for about a year . The hardest thing for me is bringing the hoop from overhead lasso down to the waist.. I can raise it easier from the waist but its still a bit wonky and my arm gets twisted up, haha. Love doing those escalators!
You are such a good teacher! Wish you were in the UK i would totally go to your classes. Do you think you could do this with a weighted hoop? Im still on my 1st week using the weighted one and not quite there yet to be doing these tricks, but would a non weighted one be better for these kinda things?
I think you could use a weighted one for some of these tricks, but really it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with. And thank you so much for your kind words!
I still find it super hard to waist hoop in my non dominant direction. It’s as if everything is just so off. Do you have any tips or is it just practice and being okay with getting it around once, them twice, then three times (if I’m lucky!). Thanks for the great tutorial, you have wonderful energy!
hey thank you so much. Yeah for the other direction, I don't have too much advice other than all the videos on waist hooping I have. Learning how to hoop on the non dominant side can be like learning how to hula hoop for the first time again. Really the key is practicing over and over until you build up your skills. You can apply all the techniques to the other side. It would be more surprising if someone learned a bunch of tricks on their dominant side and then could just instantly do them in the other direction. In my experience, it doesn't normally work that way.
I'm still very much a beginner.. The first time I picked up my hoop I was doing super well waist hooping, I could keep it up for at least half a song. Two days later I could not keep my hoop up if my life depended on it 😂 my neighbors are going to hate me for the constant sound of my hoop smacking the floor
To start doing more tricks like in this video, I would recommend using a lighter hoop. You could try with the heavier hoop, but I would also listen to your body too. If the hoop is too heavy, then I would stop.
Wow thank you, great video! How long did it take you to master the isolation movement?? I am trying but not really getting better, just curious how long you had to practice it!?
I don't remember exactly. I don't think the basic isolation took too long to learn. Definitely doing horizontal and vertical isolations took some time to learn for me
Hey, Hoop Smiles! I have a question, please. On waist reversals - every time I try to do it with the inside of my forearms (near elbows), it sends the hoop all wonky, usually up to my chest. I can do it decently using my hands, and don't have that problem, and actually love how it feels with my rhythm using my hands.. Any recommendations? Or should I just stick with what works for me? I love your videos!
First off, thank you for the compliment. To answer your question, I would try to learn reversing the hoop with your arms because if you don't you will be limited to what breaks and reversals you can do in the future. Without actually seeing how you are doing your reversals, I can't give you any personal recommendations. A question I do have is when you try to reverse the hoop with your arm, when you make contact with the hoop, where is your arm? If you contact the hoop with your arm in front of your body, you might be more successful. Whereas if you are hitting the hoop with your arm somewhat behind your body or at your side, then that might contribute to your unsmooth reversal.
You are awesome man, I just started hooping and after seeing so many videos I found your channel and finally feel I can learn something!! You are so good at teaching, your videos are clear, well explained and fun! I subscribed to your channel and look forward to starting the hoop journey with your videos, thanks again!
You're awesome! Thank you for making this list with great tips and instruction. I've watched your tutorials when I first started my hoop journey and it's been life changing. You're inspiring me to go back to the basics to perfect and flow better with my hoop :)
I don’t have any rhythm and I look so stiff 😭 I’ve tried to get the hoop from my waist to my chest but i look like a penguin walking and the hoop just falls 😂 Or a seal I guess lol!!!
HELLO, THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL TIP! I WOULD LIKE TO ASK, I THOUGHT BEGGINERS MUST BE USE THE HULA HOOP TELL BELLY BUTTON WHY YOURS IS NOT? ASK I CAN SEE IT IS SMALER THAN UP TO ON YOUR BELLY BUTTON? SORRY MY ENGLISH IS NOT MAYBE GOOD ENOUGH BUT I HOPE YOU HAVE UNDERTAND ME WHAT I TRY TO SAY

You're really good at teaching! Loved seeing this compilation of beginner hoop tricks with tips all in one video. Great "list" to work off of!
Hey thanks so much! I appreciate it! Always great to see your comments!

Who out there is learning these hoop tricks? How is it going?
I'm practicing putting my arms in the hoop, and then I'm going for chest hooping, yes!
That's awesome! I love chest hooping!
My dd and I are trying!!

That's awesome! I always tell people start big then go small. Using a bigger hoop first to get to your desired smaller hoop size is the way to go.
Wow~ Thank you for this wonderful video!!! You are really great teacher!!!
Very clear demo and instruction! I like the progression!
Definitely adding this to a playlist ! Great instructions! I love how you explain what happens if we do it wrong.. thank you can’t wait to start my journey!

Sure, depends on the trick. Some of the tricks may be hard to do with a weighted hula hoop and not feel as good so you may not want to do some tricks.

Do you have any favorite playlists for hooping?
No I don't. Do you?
@@hoopsmiles not yet, but I'm excited to find or create one.

You're awesome! Thank you for making this list with great tips and instruction. I've watched your tutorials when I first started my hoop journey and it's been life changing. You're inspiring me to go back to the basics to perfect and flow better with my hoop :)
That's awesome! I'm glad to hear! Flow in my opinion is the most interesting part hooping for me, along with being the most inspiring part of hooping.
What is the size and weight of the hoop?
I think I'm using a 1/2 inch 125 psi hoop with a 35 inch diameter.
I find thus weird, nerdy, and kinda funny. Having said that, I just ordered my first hoop online after a 55 year break.
Awesome!
I think i have to watch this video once a day 🤔
Yeah there is a lot of info jammed into this video.
Are you using a weighted hoop!??
Not in this video. You can use a weighted hoop instead though when doing most if not all the tricks in this video.
I don’t have any rhythm and I look so stiff 😭 I’ve tried to get the hoop from my waist to my chest but i look like a penguin walking and the hoop just falls 😂
