Yeah, I was extremely disappointed that the true finale didn't stay the finale. And yeah, Zoidbergs girlfriend didn't come back because the whole point of her was to give the show's punching bag a happy ending. The only episode I thought was when Kiff and Amy's kids reached the surface. Its funny how in the first one they mentioned that their kids will reach the surface in 20 years and 20 years have passed in both the Futurama episode and in real life. I wonder if that was intentional from the start
Yeah Futurama ended in 2003 as far as i'm concerned, it was a Y2K show that was supposed to reflect our excitement and anxieties about the new millennium, everything after that kinda blends together for me
Appreciate this, I love Futurama but it always felt weird they brought it back. I like it in the context it originally exists. EDIT: I mean bringing it back in this day/year, I actually quite like the movies and revival, it did kinda run out of steam but the ending was still really heartfelt
Yeah I liked the CC revival enough to originally accept it all as part of the show, but now that it's continuing on again, It's become clear to me the cleanest ending point was just the first one.
No of course not lol. Honestly though I would usually cynically say “oh people are too scared to make new things they just need to milk old properties”, but to be fair they made disenchanted and no one gave a shit about that so it’s clear they are gonna milk old properties when no one cares about your new ones.
Something just feels off about the new Hulu episodes, like when one of my favorite bands got a new drummer, it just doesnt have the same rhythm. I think it has become too self-aware especially the 2024 episodes. So far the biggest lol moment this season was when Hermes' wife LaBarbara was disgusted by Hedonism-Bot. I just wasnt expecting that, and it was really funny when she called him a filthy couch. The show needs more subtle humor than constantly pushing out topical humor that really feels dated in a show about the future and falls flat.
One last comment. I dont think new episodes need to build up to a bigger story. I love this show and characters and i just want to see these characters go on more adventures. We already finished their main story and now we are just going on bonus stories we havent seen before. Seeing their adventures after the series ended. I personally like seeing fry and leela together bc the will they wont they is only exciting if i can actually see them get together and stay together for a long time. When its only done at the end then it ruins the show imo. Im sorry im very passionate about this series.
Yeah, like, I understand people hating it, but the reason why I like Meanwhile is because it worked on a metatextual level - back in the Comedy Central run syndication still mattered, so when Fry asked if Leela wanted to go around again, it created a perfect loop of the show you could pirate. The Hulurama run says, *“FUCK THAT ENDING, DON’T YOU WANNA SEE THE FOLLOWUP TO KIF AND AMY, OR BENDER IN A COWBOY SUIT?!”* turning it into yet another ending.
@@eatatjoes6751 Exactly. Cant stand how people have to prioritize more content over quality content. Its all about that money. Just look at Disney. Pumping out Star wars show after star wars show. Or Marvel script after marvel script. And almost none of them have been quality.
Yes it was. The show is great and deserves more episodes. I loved the show since i was a kid and this is the first time ive been able to experience new episodes. Plus some episodes are genuinely good this season and i feel will only get better.
I agree with most of what you’ve talked about this video, so it surprised me you didn’t like the Xmas episode. Personally I felt its b plot was somewhat weak, but I actually really enjoyed bender and zoidbergs a plot. The premise of those two pairing up and needing to hide a body was just so left field and funny to me
It's funny conceptually but I just don't think they have that much comedic chemistry to be honest, especially in their late-series form. I feel like the show is at it's best when it's focused on Fry, Leela and Bender, with the other four acting as supporting roles with the occasional spotlight episode. I've never really been a fan of all the oddball character pairings in the revival seasons, the comedy doesn't flow nearly as well.
21:05 that may be true for clone high, but imo, what’s wrong with that? all three of the original creators returned and they have all grown up in the past 20 years. to me it makes sense that the show would grow up with them. i mean, imagine trying to replicate something you did for a few months in 2002 while also somehow meeting the hype, accepting that culture and acceptability has changed, trying to grow the characters while introducing new ones, etc etc. especially because the show ended on a cliffhanger that had to be addressed. i don’t really know how someone could replicate the exact magic that existed back in 2003, but maybe that’s okay. i love clone high and you should consider making a video on it! i just disagree with this critique of the show. the second season wasn’t great, but season 3 genuinely felt as close to the original show as possible oh yeah futurama is cool too i guess lol
19:30 I have to disagree with you on this one, i think the Christmas one was one of the best of the season, maybe like 2nd or 3rd best only behind the finale that was amazing and maybe the momazon one, it has clever twists even tough the dynamic beetween bender and zoidberg doesnt make 100% sense, i think the episode was very clever with its twists and it had some of the better moments comedywise in this revival
@@GregCubed Honestly you're not missing out on much in season 12/9, the episodes have been around the same level of quality as season 11/8, The first one was about Nfts and a generic meeting the new family on mexico B plot it was generic and mid, the second was a squid game parody, that was serviceable, the third (The Temp) was actually interesting it has a really good sci-fi premise, the execution is a little wonky, like, it could be a 9/10 episode if it was executed better, but i thought it was a pretty good one, and the forth is just, same old same old of season 8.
I love 'Futurama', but the Hulu revival was really unnecessary. The show was perfectly fine after its time on FOX and Comedy Central. 'Futurama' was just never the same when it got back.
Nope, didn't need it. The reboot is inferior, characters don't act like themselves and the writers (hate to admit this, I really do) are too old. Their humor is dated. Won't be watching next season.
My expectations were so low that I was actually pleasantly surprised throughout the entire last season; the final episode is probably one of my favorites of the entire series! Good season, but definitely not necessary. Also always found it off how it has a sliding timescale for a series where the main topic revolves around, you know, time itself. It handles its meta jokes decently, and hasn’t quite become a parody of itself…yet.
I always said of the Comedy Central seasons that when it was good, it was the show at some of its absolute best (Late Philip J. Fry, Game of Tones, Meanwhile), but when it was bad, it was borderline unwatchable (Attack of the Killer App, Naturama). And tbh, as an admitted skeptic of the revival as a whole, I think you were a little too kind to it and came out of the new season thinking the finale was the only decent episode Also, this is such a specific thing, but there's a certain thing about the sound design in not just Futurama, but Disenchantment and The Simpsons too where the sound effects have become way more noticeable to me - maybe it's because they've been using the same sounds across all shows for upwards of 30 years now? But hearing that one squelch sound effect they use over and over tends to take me right out of the episode (Not to mention Billy West sounding audibly older)
While I agree the series' quality took an abrupt quality nosedive after it's first revival, Jurassic Bark kinda ruined the series for me. Like I don't think of it as wow, what a emotional episode so great. But the ending is legitimately traumatizing to me.
Man FINALLY someone talked about this (I have never seen an episode of Futurama)
Go watch it then!!!!!! The Fox run has to be some of the best TV in history
@@JustaRandomGuy890 Yeah, The Fox Run, the first 3 Direct To DVD Movies, The Late Phillip. J Fry and Meanwhile is all that's needed

Dang. And disenchanted isn’t that bad. 😭
I actually did like disenchanted, but I had to restart from the first two episodes FOUR times over a 5 year period before it finally clicked with me.
Billy west sounds old… he is still a great VA but fry doesn’t sound the same anymore
respect for using Humpback Hop in the first minute or so

It's a cute 6/10. Yeah, half of it feels kinda simpsonized but it still has a nice chunk of the soul of the older stuff.
