Excellent stuff Number 1. In retrospect the amount of history in those 6.5 miles is remarkable. I love the middle ages but to think humans by that point had already been around for 1000s of years and were already incredibly advanced in many ways is hard to wrap your head around. Anyway, the original music was brilliant! I hope everyone goes and checks out the series and discovers your references. This is the perfect time to binge it all before we all go back to work and January kicks in properly. Thanks for inviting me along
I'd like to confess that I probably did pee close to one of those stones a few years ago... Swindon likes to keep its public loos closed. Between the bus stop and the start of The Ridgeway, well, you need something to hide behind!! Glad you got to see West Kennett Long Barrow. I'm sure I've read that the National Trust owns the whole of Avebury village, which fits within that giant henge/stone circle. Silbury Hill has many stories. It's supposedly 'hollow' inside, to a point. Others believe a big cat lives there! Thanks for sharing, good to see you exploring Wiltshire and Happy... Happy Day!
Cremated……. The thought of being dug up by time team gives me shivers. Half my ashes would be put with my grandads and the other half scattered on the Isle of Wight like my mums ❤😢
I read the first book early 90's or so, when I was around 10 years old. It was thrilling, even tho I'm sure I didn't understand most of the scientific stuff back then. I read it again a few more times over the decades, the last time around 2017. Just yesterday I remembered it and googled. Then I found that TV series. We didn't have it in Germany, so I watched it yesterday. This story is definetly one you won't forget. Thanks for the funny and interesting video. The area looks much larger than I had the impression from the series.
Ha! That beginning was brilliant that's exactly what it's like. I've got the series on dvd, I watch it quite a lot I love it. I 've been to Avebury many, many times and I've experienced all of the supernatural phenomena that can happen there. Avebury was a magnetic machine for producing pre-fertilised crop seed. They didn't use fertiliser back then, you see: and when they started to, in the Bronze Age, these places were abandoned. I do the same thing to seed now but using magnets in a very special way. Back then you had to use gigantic stones, and a hell of a lot of them, to create this amazing effect on seeds.
Just discovered this channel and loving it. Avebury is one of my favourite walks, try heading down to Lockeridge and Piggledene, the rivers of Sarsen stones are beautiful and hardly anyone goes there.
Oh, a video treat for New Years Day! ☺What a nice surprise! Gotta love a long barrow & stones. Magical, mystical things always intrigue me & have had all sorts of strange goings on happening around these areas in the UK. I once had a really strange experience on a ley line 😲😱. Car radio had been broken & silent for years. Parked outside a church in Norfolk directly over where a Ley Line runs through to Stonehenge & beyond & when I drove off, suddenly the radio spluttered into life. Kept going for a full 20 mins before giving up the ghost again, never to return😮Never been to Avebury, always bypassing it on the way to Cornwall & back so this was great to see close up. As for the burial or cremation...I plan to live forever!! 🌠🌌🌝HNY Marek...loved the painting!
I will raise a glass to your immortality. I also know where to go when my car radio is broken. (I need a car first). I wonder if it was the same spooky church as in my Boudicca Way walk.
@@cdwc Thought I had deja vu when I was writing that comment...I went back and had a look at your Boudicca Way vid and discovered I'd already told you that story before Ha!! Ha!! I knew I told it to someone recently! It was actually Hopton Church, many years ago now....a Ley line runs right through the altar area of the church down to a point on the beach so they say....
Love Children of the Stones. Watching as a child it was SO CREEPY and scarred a generation. And LOVE your rendition of the theme! Love Avebury. Meet my schoolfriend there every year for a week of walking and pubs. So atmospheric.
The late 70's had great children's fare which didn't talk down to kids. The film Watership Down also came out at this time. The director of 'Donny Darko' admitted Watership Down's Black Rabbit of Death inspired his Frank monster rabbit. Nice homage to yet another 'kiddie' film that scarred a generation.
Happy New Year. Love your video. I've visited Avebury and surrounding areas twice and walked the Ridgeway. The area is packed with neolithic burials. A watched Children of the Stones after you mentioned it on a previous video. Classic children's TV - loved it. Stay cool 😎
Children of the Stones is absolute class and I have to commend your rendition of the theme tune, it was pretty authentic. If I have to die I would like to be burnt on a pyre like Darth Vader.
Binged the series over a couple of days and now can't stop singing the theme music around the house (I'm sure the neighbours are impressed). Great walk, definitely adding to my to do list.
Thanks, Marek - I watched Children of the Stones in 1976 and a year later we had a school trip to Avebury, West Kennet Longbarrow and Stonehenge - the best school trip ever! And in those days we were allowed to walk among the stones at Stonehenge. Years later, in the 1980s I visited Avebury again and was walking through the churchyard - there was a patch on the path where the air was much warmer than anywhere else - very odd, I was completely baffled as every time I stepped outside it, the air was cooler...and it wasn't anything to do with shadows or sunlight? The patch was about two feet in diameter.
Happy sunday! and i really enjoyed this wonderful video, hope you have a amazing 2023 debs fan 🤗xx...........and i watched your isle of wight end to end walk and its something i want to do debs xx

Definitely gonna watch that show now. I agree with you Marek, I'd like a tree and to be buried. But like, maybe in a less thick coffin so it's not completely separate from the earth etc.

Great video! According to my dowsing rods, these stones are either male or female and as you walk among them they alternate between a male and female. To me, these stones represent the fusion between human beings and the earth, the stones being the representation. The Leylines amplify the energies, like power grid.
@@cdwc technically that might work as it will energise you but won’t create electricity unless you can convert the extra power from you but you might have to plug yourself in to something!

Great video Marek! We went for a wander around the stones in 2016 as a family on our way to our break in Cheddar. Like Avebury more than Stone henge, something about it! Love that you took your meter. You should have took it to the Brompton cemetery time machine too😊👍 that video sent me on an internet time machine spiral rabbit hole 🤣🤣🤣 have never heard of Children of the stones but may give it a go. Reminded me of 'The box of delights' in 80s and how scary that could be and that wasn't patronising to kids either, just good story telling. Happy new year, hope you had a good Christmas 🎄😊

"Happy Day" ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍 I've watched the first couple of episodes of 'Children of the Stones'. Very intriguing. Very 'of it's time' but absolutely brilliant. I love it. It's a pity there was only 7 episodes ! ☹️ Great recommendation Marek ! Cheers. 👍😃
Oooh that looks like a brilliant place to explore and that pub looked lovely too. A walk is always made better when there's a pub at the end of it. I think I'd rather be cremated than eaten by worms. I'm an organ donor and I'm hoping that they'll be able to make use of a lot of me. So hopefully by the time they've finished there may not be much left. I would like to be scattered in the sea, along the north east coast. Hopefully my ashes won't fly back into the scatterer's face even though that would be hilarious. Ooooh we're going to be visiting the iow in the summer. We booked our b&b this morning. So exciting! Stay cool.
Hey Marek. 😃👍 Enjoyed that one. Not an area I know much about, but now on my list of places to visit. The village looked lovely. I've never heard of "Children of the Stones". I was born in 1970, & was brought up in the English Midlands. On your recommendation I shall take a look. 😁👍 I think I'd rather be buried too. I don't like the heat ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can't believe how many members you have now. Over 1200 ! 😃👍 That's brilliant. I remember when I first started watching it was a couple of hundred members. 👍😃 Well done Marek. Keep up with the great videos.
A lot of the RUclips members are also website members, so it might be a little inaccurate. I can recommend doing this walk cool dude. There are loads of good ones around here.
A magical and mysterious video.thoroughly enjoyed it.maybe dowsing rods would have been better rather than modern electronic gubbins around there.great video cool dude 👍🏻
ooh a photo of wee Marek! what a treat! cremated. headstones & coffins are expensive & graveyards take up space. Did you know you can get a box for your ashes that has seeds so when you bury it, wildflowers will grow? that's my kind of plan
Cremated - I'm claustrophobic, so the thought of being buried gives me the heebie-jeebies 😬 Not that I'd know when I'm dead, but still... Fun fact: when I told my dad this, he immediately said 'But what if you're murdered and they need to dig you up for evidence?' Cheers, dad!
Avebury is a fascinating place, really enjoyed watching this video. The Children of the Stones scared the wotsits out of me any my sister, as did Escape into Night. A lot of 70s children’s tv was excellent and, like you say, did not patronise young viewers.
Happy New Year Cool Dude! Great walk, has made me want to revisit Avebury having only been once before and not for very long. Will watch Children of the Stones before going... I did the same thing with watching 'The Prisoner' before a trip to Portmerion and it made it extra creepy/special! I've been researching alternatives to burial and cremation and like the idea of being freeze dried and put on a vibrating plate to shake down into to smaller bits before being turned to ash. Or was just on the BBC News site and saw an article about being turned into compost, which also sounds neat. There's a modern barrow you can have your ashes interned within as well!
I want a viking funeral. Float out to sea and have a flaming arrow set me alight. Then everyone has a massive brawl. Half of that is the usual family funeral. Happy New year cool dude. I hope you kick 2023 square in the balls
Hi Marek, I've just started watching Children of the Stones following your recommendation. Your version of the opening theme tune is astoundingly accurate, for which you should be congratulated and rewarded. I think you should enter it in this years Eurovision Song Contest - I would at least watch it for once if you did...
Given how 2022 (and the whole 2020s this far) have gone globally, “do you wish to be buried or cremated” is not a bad question to start a new year. More like realistic, unfortunately. I guess I’d prefer being composted if possible. Have a cool year 2023, and stay safe on your travels!
So, did you touch the stones and what happened?? Not much footage of Silbury Hill - can you get close to it? I'm old enough to see Children Of The Stones the first time around in '77 - tv was quite different then. Nice one Marek!
It just felt like cold stone when I touched it. You can go up Silbury Hill, but there were two drunk men shouting at each other up it when we passed so we decided not to go up there. Plus I was suffering from man flu that day so I couldn't walk much further.
Thanks for this excellent video, cool dude, which made for a great start to the new year. The West Kennet Long Barrow looked extremely spooky and I can see why you decided to flee. Would this walk be feasible at this time of year as I’m thinking of visiting Avebury and Marlborough this weekend.
I've always wanted to see Avebury Stones - now I REALLY want to go there next time I'm in your land. Thanks for a fun excursion! My dad loved cedars, too! Ever heard this song? ruclips.net/video/r0C1erLsZVQ/видео.html I think my favorite tree is the coast redwood. They're so tall & beautiful, they have six sets of genes! They're home to many unique species including spotted owls and they thrive where the salmon clan meet the bear clan, enriching the entire forest. Thanks, Marek!
That was a cool song. Thank you. I would very much like to see some giant redwoods close up one day. I can’t recommend the Avebury Stones highly enough Cool Dude.
It would have to be cremation followed by sending my ashes into the sky in a firework, a la Hunter S Thompson. Over the sea. Got to be all about going out with a bang. CD#123
My MIL is obsessed with rocks too. We take her beautiful places and she takes pictures of the rocks. She’s given me 5 pkts of Strawberry Laces… does that mean she ate one Marek? You said they were in pkts of 3. Suspicious!
The current state of Strawberry Laces in the UK is scandalous. At the start of 2022 they were three packs for a pound. Currently they are priced at 60p a packet - almost a 100% price hike.
@@cdwc that’s crazy! Actually after I wrote this she then gave me a further packet. 6 packets now. I feel bad being suspicious. And apparently she’s left many more hidden for me in the granny flat. I’m now flush with laces it would seem.
Buried at sea, very much so. People get to go on a nice little boat trip and have nibbles and drinks. Captain says a few words then SPLOOSH and everyone goes home.
Looks like a very cool place to go, I will have to check out the children of the stones too. Tho I hope the theme music doesn’t freak my dog out as much as your version did - not sure what subliminal dog message you hid in there but my dog is now very afraid of you Marek. 🤔 As for buried v cremated, as a kid I always wanted a “sky burial” - basically chucked out and eaten by birds. Or jus thrown to the lions at the zoo. That would be an entertaining day at the zoo for all the onlookers, right!? Seems I had some odd childhood ambitions... 😐 PS. Happy new year, Marek! Hope 2023 is filled with awesomeness for you! 👏🏼💖🥂✨
Happy New Year cool dude. I wonder what I accidentally said in dog language. If I had a sky burial I worry about landing on someone and killing them. Although I wouldn't need to worry as I'd be dead.
Another great video Marek! Were you channelling Ludo calling the rocks in Labyrinth on purpose when doing the theme tune or was that just a happy accident?! 🤣 I actually live fairly close to Avebury but I've sadly not been there since I was a kid. One of those things where you keep meaning to but never get around to it. My health conditions are pretty bad at the mo, but it's on my list of places to hopefully visit! The Red Lion pub is supposed to be very haunted! Also, I didn't know Windmill Hill is a meeting point for lay lines, that's just up the road from me! 😳😅
Hope you get better soon cool dude. I did not think of Ludo, but you are right it sounded very similar. I hope you get around to watching Children of the Stones if you haven't seen it already.
Last time I was in Avebury some drunk pretend druids were screaming at small children for climbing up a stone. Then we went to Stonehenge and I got arrested for puking on it.
Happy new year cool dude! I have no recollection of Children of the stones. I think it might've tipped me over the edge as I'd already been traumatised by Dark Towers and The Boy From Space. As for burial or cremation, I'd quite like to be cremated and placed in a fancy box with a brass plaque. I've no idea why 🤷♂️
Forgot to say as to your question hopefully neither as i have signed up for leaving my remains as a cadaver but they have the right to refuse so in that case i'd hope for cremation
I want to be cremated to Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush then have my ashes scattered somewhere so they can be eaten by wildlife..... Happy new year! Random question but would you go on Task Master?
There's something spooky going on here it's not posting, its saying a problem with server 404👻🧐 3rd time lucky!🤞 Great video! 1976-What a cute baby. 1976 wasn't a good year for me. My ashes are to be scattered from St Helen's to Whitecliff Bay (if there's enough in the pot). After visiting Carnac, Avebury & The Longstone, I've been fascinated with standing stones. It's the how & why they got there, a magical mystery. One day soon, I'm going to build a 25 feet Monolith in my garden, just like the one at Rudston, Yorkshire 🏔🏛
The monolith sounds great cool dude. Sometimes RUclips is really weird with comments. I write replies to most things but sometimes when I come back they have disappeared. Only the RUclips gods know what is happening.

Cheers. 👍😃
Excellent. I am so glad you like it cool dude.
Marek mate, you need to use your influence in 'Hollywood', and get this re-made for todays audience. You'd make a great 'Hendrick'. 👍😃
Happy New Year Cool Dude
Happy New Year to you too Greg.
Stay cool.
Excellent. I hope you have good weather in the summer. Let me know if you want any recommendations.
@@cdwc Thankyou. 🙂
Nice one Marek. Happy New Year! The Tripods scared the bejaysus out of me as a kid as well
I remember seeing it when it was first on. I must find it again so I can check whether it is as scary as I remembered.
Thanks cool dude. A couple of people suggested dowsing rods. I’ll try and make some at home for next time.
Avebury is an incredible place
I absolutely loved it there.
I recognised the stones from Still Crazy. In my opinion a very underrated comedy rock film. Cheers Marek.
I have never seen that. I'll have to check it out.
ooh a photo of wee Marek! what a treat!
cremated. headstones & coffins are expensive & graveyards take up space. Did you know you can get a box for your ashes that has seeds so when you bury it, wildflowers will grow? that's my kind of plan
That box is a nice idea.
I'll be sure to check that video out as soon as I've watched this masterpiece 😆 ..Happy new year my cool dude 💚
Have a great 2023.
@Cool Dudes Walking Club ..6 minutes into Children of the Stones & im already loving it.. thanks for the recommendation - happy* day 😄
Oh no, they've got to you.
@Cool Dudes Walking Club ..quite possibly aghh.. I binged watched the whole lot, thoroughly enjoyed it 👌
I remember watching the show as a 9 year old in my last year at Primary School. It was quite a bizarre series 😱
It is worth a rewatch. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have not heard of Escape into the Night. I am compiling a list of all the cool suggestions on here. Thank you.
@@cdwc Escape into Night was based on a book called Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. You may fancy adding that to your reading list too.
#156 ! It's me ! Thank you very much Marek and wishing all cool dudes a wonderful 2023 ! Stay Cool
Happy Day Marek! I only live down the road 🙂
Oh no you've been converted!
@@cdwc Many years ago 😂
I quite like the compost idea cool dude. That way I would do something more useful than when I was alive. Ha. Happy New Year.
I want a viking funeral. Float out to sea and have a flaming arrow set me alight. Then everyone has a massive brawl. Half of that is the usual family funeral. Happy New year cool dude. I hope you kick 2023 square in the balls
What an excellent send off Cool Dude. I want Jag to fire the arrow (if he survives you). Stay cool and looking forward to more of your videos in 2023.
Hi Marek, I've just started watching Children of the Stones following your recommendation. Your version of the opening theme tune is astoundingly accurate, for which you should be congratulated and rewarded. I think you should enter it in this years Eurovision Song Contest - I would at least watch it for once if you did...
I will write to them immediately. I am sure to finish in at least the top three.
I agree the 2020's have been pretty bleak, I hope it starts to get better this year.
Also, the 3 trees on the hill at Avebury were tolkiens insparation for the Ents in lotr
Did Barbary castle to avebury circular it’s a wonderful walk
That sounds like a good one dude.
Thanks for this excellent video, cool dude, which made for a great start to the new year. The West Kennet Long Barrow looked extremely spooky and I can see why you decided to flee. Would this walk be feasible at this time of year as I’m thinking of visiting Avebury and Marlborough this weekend.
I think you could do in in winter with some boots on and it shouldn't be too muddy.
Happy New Year, Sunglasses Marek has not been on an adventure yet, when he does I will email you a photo. Stay cool dude.
Watch out for him on walks, he can be troublesome.
CD#123
That is a great idea cool dude.
I’m now flush with laces it would seem.
i think it was Michael Landon who carved that in a tree when he was doing a "highway to heaven" Children of the stones crossover
Yes it was definitely him cool dude.
Buried at sea, very much so. People get to go on a nice little boat trip and have nibbles and drinks. Captain says a few words then SPLOOSH and everyone goes home.
You could probably hire the Isle of Wight Car Ferry.
@cdwc Christ is that the one with the huge clanking chains you said that must be what Hell sounds like?
That is the floating bridge which is always broken.
Dory doing a whale... Good rendition of the title Marek 🐳😂
Thanks cool dude.
Looks like a very cool place to go, I will have to check out the children of the stones too. Tho I hope the theme music doesn’t freak my dog out as much as your version did - not sure what subliminal dog message you hid in there but my dog is now very afraid of you Marek. 🤔
As for buried v cremated, as a kid I always wanted a “sky burial” - basically chucked out and eaten by birds. Or jus thrown to the lions at the zoo. That would be an entertaining day at the zoo for all the onlookers, right!?
Seems I had some odd childhood ambitions... 😐
PS.
@@cdwc just aim for somebody very annoying and then you won’t have to feel guilty in the afterlife 👍🏼
Another great video Marek! Were you channelling Ludo calling the rocks in Labyrinth on purpose when doing the theme tune or was that just a happy accident?! 🤣
I actually live fairly close to Avebury but I've sadly not been there since I was a kid.
When I see. It advertised Thought it was called children gets Stoned 😮😅
Wow, that Monica Lewinsky gets about.
HNY.
Last time I was in Avebury some drunk pretend druids were screaming at small children for climbing up a stone. Then we went to Stonehenge and I got arrested for puking on it.
I saw a lady hug a stone for about half an hour. Didn't see any puke.
@@cdwc the stone huggers are a lovely bunch
Yppah Wen Raey Keram 3202 😎👋
It took me five minutes to work out that was backwards. Ha. Same to you cool dude.
@@cdwc Glad you got it my friend 😄🙂. Thank you for all the giggles in 2022. Let 2023 be full of fun too.
😎👊👍👋👋
I had a sexual experience in the Long Barrow lol!!!! Happy New Year Cool Dude🍻
Hopefully not with one of the skeletons. Happy new year dude!
I don't know how any children slept in the 70's with all the TV shows and those public safety adverts.
Forgot about the screaming bit of the theme tune...
Hope your new year 'Rocks' but no getting stoned !
Oh.. oops 😅
This is officially the worst joke of the year so far.
Forgot to say as to your question hopefully neither as i have signed up for leaving my remains as a cadaver but they have the right to refuse so in that case i'd hope for cremation
Mysterious video ..
I want to be cremated to Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush then have my ashes scattered somewhere so they can be eaten by wildlife..... Happy new year! Random question but would you go on Task Master?
That is a great send off. Meanwhile I am not famous enough for Taskmaster. Happy New Year cool dude.
@@cdwc you'd be amazing on Task Master cool dude!
Genuinely terrifying music.
Possibly the best title sequence of all time.
I think I’d like to be compost buried. Less damage on the earth.
This is a good idea cool dude.
There's something spooky going on here it's not posting, its saying a problem with server 404👻🧐
3rd time lucky!🤞 Great video!
@@cdwc Yes, life & twitter can be a bit like this too. Ha
Nice one marek happy new year mate. Keep em coming
Nice one cool dude. Happy New Year. Hope you have lots of great walks.
