Coming up in Kentucky, antisocial white boy, in the middle of nowhere, town of 500 people, and still listening to Tech / RDVs / Strange family for almost 20 years now. I have to say his voice has the strength but his words have the power. We champion unity and civil liberties now and his works always come back around with that anti-conformity, pro-unity message and this has always resonated with me. I don't listen to it to have a good time, I listen to it to be inspired. Even the songs that sound somewhat like typical rap were a welcome window into his life and wisdom. We'll see him at Mercury Ballroom, Louisville in April with that VIP meet and greet and for me it will be a long time coming.
That's about 80% of KY, man. I grew up in a town called Vicco (Virginia Iron Coal Co.) Half the towns in eastern KY were coal towns that dwindled to nothing when the coal companies pulled out or went bankrupt more than half a century ago. Louisville itself has almost half the state's population in it alone. Most of the people in these towns have no idea how cut off from the rest of the world they are and none of them seem to care. Sad really.
