      I can say that you can actually use too much maxspect bio and not have any nutrients as a result..

    Don't we need to carbon dose to get the bacteria what takes out nitrate?

    • @TattooedDancer91
      @TattooedDancer91 4 года назад +3

      no. They need a habitat (anoxic zone). Unfortunately you won't find that habitat in that biomedia. It's not dense enough, and the water flows through too quickly. Weird that he's under that impression. Seems like an advertisement with large promises. The media is great filtration, I use it myself, but not for denitrification.

    • @ammar6937
      @ammar6937 4 года назад

      @@TattooedDancer91 ok thanks... What bio media can we use that will give the correct habitat

    • @TattooedDancer91
      @TattooedDancer91 4 года назад

      @@ammar6937 best bet is the large marine pure blocks or a deep sand bed, but thats just a hassle and those sand beds are ticking time bombs.
      Easiest solution to nitrate reduction is just carbon dosing to grow large amounts of bacteria and protein skimming to remove them. Then you don't need a habitat for anaerobic bacteria, and the skimmer you already have does another job. :)

    Hi, I was planning on building my new sump to contain a refugium.
    Would you recommend this bio media over the refugium?

  • @TheSaltyLife
    @TheSaltyLife 4 года назад

    another great informative video! If I was to replace my current bio media for this stuff would you recommend I do it abit at a time to allow my current bio media to seed this new stuff? So for example just do one medal tray at a time in a canister? Whilst leaving some of the old seeded stuff still in there? Or could I literally change all my bio media out for this stuff without a detrimental effect? Thank you 🙂

    • @AaronsAquarium
      @AaronsAquarium  4 года назад +1

      Yes I would add this media alongside your current media then month by month take a portion of your old media out. I would also suggest adding something like Fritz Zyme 9 or Dr Tims One & Only to the tank when you remove your old media.

    • @TheSaltyLife
