- We do this ride in different variations a few times a summer as it is only 4 miles away from our house. The south end of the trail (MRT) has been lengthened over the years until they hit a stalemate with landowners with only 2.4 miles of trail left to connect to the path coming upriver from Hastings in Spring Lake Park. Construction on the connection segment will start in the summer of 2023!!! We enjoy this ride as there is a variation of things to see along the way and from mid to late summer the wildflowers are very nice. The pond at mile 8.1 of the ride usually has an abundance of painted and snapping turtles (some of which can be quite large) that are sunning on the logs. This time we did not see many but we did see a few painted turtles and a large snapping turtle. You can stop on the swing bridge which goes out into the Mississippi river and also there are some lookout points along the trail. Another nice feature of this trail segment is that on weekends it is not very crowded. The trail can be a bit curvy at times with limited visibility so you need to pay attention for oncoming bicyclists.

Thanks for the video, I live in St. Paul and was curious about riding in that direction, this gives me a better idea of what to expect.
Glad it was helpful! It is a nice trail and by next year the trail will continue to spring lake park and allow us to ride on a trail from St Paul to Hastings. Of course from St Paul you can take trails to Minneapolis and beyond. Thanks for watching!

@@RichardMooreAndJulieMoore Thank you. I was riding my bike from home to campus the last two semesters and now that school is done I still would like to ride a trail close to home.
