Congrats to the newlyweds! May God bless your marriage with steadfast love and may your hearts beat for another forever. Wishing both of you endless love and happiness!
My wife and I prefer everything to be simple and low key, and that was the original plan before our marriage. We were a couple that RARELY quarrel but the whole process that led up to the wedding met with a lot of frustrations and quarrels between me and my wife, as our parents and relatives had a lot of inputs and demands. We tried to be respectful and also make them happy and thus gave in to numerous demands despite our unwillingness as it will blow our budget on things that we will never use, or never wanted to have. The whole ordeal made us hate the wedding as it felt like the day not to celebrate our marriage but more like a stage to show off and impress people at the dinner who we didn't even know of. Also, it made us hate chinese customs and traditions as it made us realise most people wanted to follow them despite not knowing the whole process or what the meaning or significance is. The coordination, logistics and planning process was so tiring and stressful as the scale grew bigger. If I could turn back time and change something I could do differently, was certainly to stand our ground. How grand of a wedding is, is not a measure of how much you love your wife or how thankful you are to your in-laws for raising your beloved wife.
Hi Dan, always take out your rings when you’re exercising, doing sports and swimming! Have a dedicated keychain in your bag to loop your ring to so you won’t lose it. Congratulations on your wedding! 😊🎉
A friend told me this " This wedding is your future wife one and only time to celebrate marrying the person she love and want to grow old with. Respect her wishes and respect her family wishes no matter how troublesome and expensive it is." I myself am planning my own wedding and i agree the Guo Da Li part seem a bit redundant to me cause my parents never did it but her parents did and they want it so you as the groom and future son in law must respect their wishes to prove to them that their daughter is worth the effort Also already a big discount cause both side agree not to have the wedding dinner
16:20 the “Four Gold” was put to good use by my mom after she had 2 kids immediately after she married and was very poor. She sold them to buy milk and diapers for us.
Well said Johnathan & Dan, keeping some of the tradition is part of a culture. Many younger generation doesn't understand nor appreciate the significance to keep these tradition, its a happy occasion, would be good to have this sorted out and understand what is the meaning to these tradition including what is negotiable and what is not especially if it entails religion or even a mixed marriage.
Gui da li, is a celebration day for the bride's family as this is the day where the groom shows sincerity and the groom's family to show the acceptance of this marriage. Congratulations Dan n Nat!!!
My family don't really believe in gatecrashing - when my brother got married we totally did not have a gatecrashing and went straight to the church service - my mother thinks is childish- and not necessary - more important is tea ceremony with the relatives imo - I don't think gatecrashing is traditional - But also because there was a lack of time with the schedule - anyway I agree on the guests list - I used to be offended when my ex- acquaintance didn't invite me cause we didn't talk for years - I had to look at her social media to see her get married - I think that's the worse case scenario to do especially when you were not invited but her wedding was during covid - so her guest list was rather small - its understandable. I appreciate Jon's insights - he seems very well versed from tradition to culture - and he gives assurance to Pat's parents - that's very thoughtful and rare for guys to be honest. Love this episode but I think not everyone has the $$ to spend lavishly - I believe there needs to come with compromisation between both families when it comes to paying back what you've owed. Im single still and after watching this episode I think I will continue to want to remain single - so much hassle in planning a marriage ( I once was a events organiser but wedding really goes to large extent from photography to venue to so on and so forth) Marriage is just a public validation.
Dan, when playing football, you tape up your wedding ring. Technically, not suppose to wear any jewellery for safety reasons, but rings are easy to tape up so a lot of footballers do that.
Hi Dan. If you don't want to take off your ring while footballing, you can tape up your finger instead. Bind either the pinkie or middle finger together to prevent unexpected freak injuries. You will also look kinda cool and hip. Might even play better. 😜
My cousin is the only son in his family and this family is very wealthy. So before his wedding, my aunt & uncle asked the bride’s family how much dowry they wanted. The bride’s family said “anything”. As it was my aunt & uncle’s first and only time giving dowry, they gave a 4-digit figure, because they really thought the other family said “anything” means anything. They are not stingy, just naive. However, the bride’s family was offended by the amount as my aunt & uncle are wealthy. And they started stipulating exactly how much they wanted 😂
Just because cash gifts are involved does not mean it's a transaction. As a parent of daughters, I like John and Dan's cultural sensitivity. "I don't care for it" and "I don't do anything that has no meaning to me" show a lack of understanding of the opportunities such traditions offer in deepening family ties.
in a game, u have to take it out. safety is paramount. if the definition of love is placed on just putting on and off the ring, then its not from the heart already the love. in any match must take out, safety for others and ourselves comes first.
Abit slow to comment, but i used swissrolls from Polar puffs as my wedding pastries. Everyone who received it ate it as a snack and there is no wastage.
Disclaimer, I'm not an expert. All I've heard is, gold is a soft metal, and there are people who lost their diamonds on their rings because the claws or prongs on the rings gave way. If your wedding band has any kind of gem or jewel, it's always recommended to remove your ring when u play sports, so u wont ever need to find a tiny stone on a futsal court, or even a soccer field. That said, I'm not sure if there r any wedding band designs for men with gem or diamonds though. For other guys (since Dan is already wearing one) maybe just buy one without, so u can don't remove it and not have to worry about putting it through abuse. Men's wedding bands r often minimalistic anyway. Edit: Oh yea, congrats Dan and Nat!
CONGRATULATIONS DAN!!! LOVE this episode. But you guys made me laugh out loud at work. I lost my ring twice. One of them should be at the bottom of the sea. :( I just stop wearing ring after that because it is so troublesome and I am too forgetful.
John.... how we differntiate is how you write the invitation... if it is to Mr& Mrs ... it means we are only inviting the couple... if we write Mr/Mrs so and so & Family... then we need to budget for the kids.
The thing I regret about my wedding is trying to please everyone except for myself, the bride. I didn't enjoy the whole process. If spending some money can fulfil your wedding dream, please go ahead. Don't regret it later. :)
You sacrifice everyone but yourself - this is so sad - a wedding supposed to be a once in a lifetime affair - But I think is difficult to please everyone in the first place - especially for such events - some things need to let go like guests lists - if they not happy than just drop them - after wedding you will realise how many true friends actually stay with you - you invite them on the wedding day and they disappear after you please them - where got worth it? but spending money doesn't equate to happiness - happiness should come from yourself.
Take your ring out when doing sports, especially football. My friend ripped tendons on his finger while playing football as the ring got stuck on the clothes of the other player. It took months of recovery and a lot of pain.
Rolex doesnt really only appreciate, it's only cuz the ADs are playing games with customers, so there is a false sense of scarcity and high demand. I would however, say that a Rolex holds it's value well especially compared to a diamond.
If you want nice wedding photos please do not hire Hey Stranger. They will screw the photos from your big day. That’s my greatest and only wedding mistake!
My 四点金 are white gold pieces I chosen separately from different shops which I will wear on occasions. My parents are fine, in fact, they also agreed not to get the traditional set. Our wedding bands are $800+ for two. I don't understand why couples need to be judged based on the cost of their wedding bands or engagement rings. my engagement ring costs less than $400. As long as we love the rings, doesn't matter how much they cost or must it be a diamond ring. I personally don't like diamond rings.
U guys r just finding the easier way out manz. Wedding ring i think it's ok to not spend too much on it. But dowry it's showing appreciation to ur wife's family for her up bringing. It should be the max n the most to spend on n the best way to show appreciation. What is few k for the years of upbringing. Yes it is not suppose to be a price of their daugther. N yes they gain a son. But their daugther have to change her surname, possibly struggle in having to put ur fam over her fam. U r gng to be the king in the family. So man up n pay up to a deserving amt as much as how much u love ur wife n her fam.
Shermane dissing wedding tradition because she do not believe it... and minutes later, believing that if a girl becomes a bridesmaid multiple times will be cursed by the unmarried monster 😂
JC has a point. some familes just look at the cha ching... like its transactional. Where has the tradition and assurance and what not of culture gone to ? Last time it wasn't called a gate crash it was the announcement that a wedding was taking place simple instrument playing as the wedding carriage was carried by men or horses. Now its just a waste of time and bother. i`d be the bride's man. Wedding games ? go straight into the wedding sabo hahaha... the basic one was abit of everything in a bowl cos I always say the couple too busy to eat so we must save some for them before they can yan seng at the table or do the table photo make one of them wack half a bowl...
i think Singaporeans in general have set the standards so high on how they treat women, that's why it is difficult for the next generation to follow. Hence there is this feel of princess sickness around Singapore ladies. And thats also why you can see guys moving on to find girls from china, vietnam, thailand or malaysia. Not that i dont respect women, but i just say in comparison to the world out there............
Thanks for the well wishes guys! Really means a lot :) ALSO, turns out Nat and I were pronounced husband and wife at exactly 2:00pm!
- Dan
Congrats to the newlyweds! May God bless your marriage with steadfast love and may your hearts beat for another forever. Wishing both of you endless love and happiness!
John is a very filial son. Whenever he speaks, I can feel he’s a nice young man with his comments. Very respectful to elders. Kudos to his parents.
I BURST out laughing on the mrt when Dan said to Nat's dad 'AND IT COMES IN A PAIR'

Extremely well-said. Sorry you had to go through that, hope you guys are having a great time being married now!

Congratulations Dan & Nat!!!
I like how Jon explained "auspicious"

Congratulation Dan! Really glad to have you back!
I think whether you believe or don't believe it is important to keep our traditions alive.

I'm so much looking forward for Denise's wedding 💍💒🎉
wear gloves during high contact sports, then no worry about ring going missing or hurting your friends
Nice Dan congrats! Inevitable expenses for the once-in-a-lifetime affair... love each other well and everything is worth it!! ❤️🎉

Also, I play footie all the time with the ring on. Unless you wrestle on the football field, then you might wanna keep it on for other reasons lol.
Great episode. Real sharing to help the younger ones.
Where and when will you upload the wedding vlog
Congratulations Dan and Nat!!
Football probably no need. Be more afraid when you go snorkeling or swimming at the beach!

Interpret it however you want, traditional Chinese weddings are all about status and wealth, and it’s why I find it so ridiculous.
CONGRATULATIONS DAN!!!
LOVE this episode. But you guys made me laugh out loud at work.

Is it the song from the movie Up? The wedding song?
I couldn’t get that either
Smooth transition into the ad 👍🏻
Congrats Dan. May god bless you both abundantly ❤️🙏

For those who have the privilege to afford 过大礼, they can go ahead if they want.
But if it doesn't seem meaningful, what's the point?
Now can go for lab grown diamond ring + Chanel
Where's Dan's wedding vlog
hey Dan, u can wrap ur wedding ring with medical tape if u dont want to remove it. Harry Kane does that.
where’s the wedding vlog 🤗🤗
Why not get a birthstone instead of a diamond?
If you want nice wedding photos please do not hire Hey Stranger. They will screw the photos from your big day. That’s my greatest and only wedding mistake!

Ok boomer.
Hello, may I know where did Dan make the rings?
Went to a jeweller called Les Precieux!
- Dan
congrats dan!
Way easier to buy an expensive diamond ring than a Rolex though.
Wait at least 6 months. You will be wondering why u are not wearing the wedding band.
Raising a kid cost more like 600k than 6k
Silicone rings for workouts
Congratulations
Congrats! man.
