Great to hear Vin from my era of baseball fandom, calling a game with players who's names I all recognize. Since I stopped watching baseball long ago, this is exactly how he sounds in my head. There's a good chance I watched this very game. It's perfect in every way. RIP Vin!
Thanks for leaving the commercials in. I enjoy seeing the commercials from other eras. I’m here because I would have gone to the Dodgers-Nationals game today (Easter Sunday 2020), but the Coronavirus has made that impossible today. I saw an Expos game and thought it would be cool to watch.
Thanks for the upload! It brings back great memories as this was one of my favorite Dodger teams. I wish we still had Ross Porter, he was a great announcer. Honestly, I don't mind the commercials being left in at all. For nostalgia's sake, they were fun to see.
Listening to Vin I could tell this was shortly after his son's death.. it's very subtle but you can hear a little less spark in Vins play by play.. commentary, anecdotes etc.. can't imagine how much courage it had to take to suck it up and still be the best broadcaster in baseball
Vin Scully will always be the best. He's the voice of the Dodgers for me, the voice of baseball. Please post more of these games, or even older ones. I miss Vin and Jerry Doggett together too.
This was during the brief period of time 1993-95 where both the Dodgers and Angels were on KTLA Ch. 5 and neither team had a cable affiliate. These were also the days where the broadcasters themselves (Vinny, Ross, or Monday) did the pregame and postgame shows. There were no Patrick O'Neal's nor Jerry Hairston Jr's calling the shots.
4 years ago, I placed a comment on the Utube, ON THIS GAME… Got to missing Vin so much I came back to watch again. I reckon I’m getting old and just want something nostalgic? I don’t know, but I do know Vinny was the BEST! Bob Uacker (SP) is a close second in Milwaukee. God Bless BOTH of them. Isn’t baseball great?
I can't believe it took until the Top of the 6th for Ross Porter to mention that this game, on Aug. 21, 1995, was Ismael Valdez's birthday. It happens to be MY birthday, too, Valdez is seven years younger than me, and so it surprised me that he was so strong in this one, on just his 22nd birthday. He had a great career. Great to hear Vin AND Ross Porter in this 1995 game. I need to find out about the Dodgers' forfeit during Ball Night vs. the Cardinals.
F. P. Santangelo, the Expos' starting LF in this game, is now the game analyst with Bob Carpenter on Nationals telecasts on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).
Butler might be one of the best leadoff hitters of the last 50 years. Hes so close to hall of fame. Maybe another 2 great years and he would have had closer to 3k hits
Spanish-Jaime Jarrin & Rene Cardenas with Producer-Engineer, Mike Noto (KWKW/KTLA SAP), (18:39) English-Ross Porter & Rick Monday, with Producer-Engineer, Bob Wall (KABC) (18:55)
let's not forget the third Dodger broadcaster in 1995 is still doing Dodger broadcasts today, Rick Monday. He called the last 3 innings on KABC Radio, and the first 3 innings on KABC Radio and the middle 3 innings on KTLA-TV, and called either (innings 3 or 7) on KABC Radio whenever the Dodgers weren't on KTLA-TV. Same with Ross Porter. Of course when the Dodgers we're on KTLA in 1995, Vin Scully called the first 3 innings and the last 3 innings on TV, while doing the middle 3 innings on radio. When the Dodgers weren't on local TV, Scully called innings 1-2/4-6/8-9 on KABC Radio.
curse McCourt for getting rid of Ross Porter... after what 3 decades? So much for loyalty. No other team picked up Porter either, he was a good announcer, what a shame.
Yeah i was always hoping some kind of story would come out as to why they let porter go after all that time. Something from the story is missing. And charley steiner is a sweet guy but is awful at describing a play. It sounds like its a lazy fly ball to left then all of the sudden its in the gap and 2 runs are in and Youre sitting there like what the fuck just happened.
Who is this guy who takes over for Scully in the 4th Inning. Doesn't have Scully's entire style but he's not bad either. I'm only partway through the 4th. OK, it's Ross Porter. Like I said he's not Scully but he seems to do pretty well.
“It’s time for Dodger baseball” was never a part of the Dodger broadcasts. Back in the day it was a cold open: Either Vin or the great Jerry Doggett would say “Dodger baseball is on the air” which would be followed by the ‘theme song” of one of the three alternating sponsors.
I remember Ross Portor well and his primary focus was on STATISTICS-too much so, IMO. He just couldn't call an interesting game like Vinny could without them and I rarely enjoyed hearing him. Statistics by themselves, without enough human interest, can be boring and Portor never changed his reliance on numbers in all that time he was with the Dodgers... What's with leaving in all the commercial when one is taping a game? They're terrible and I'm not sticking around...
That was his style. And he was good. Case closed. As far as the spots are concerned, you DO realize this is a throwback recording, so yes, commercials included. Some Dodger fan you are...

Ross Porter still calls baseball games. He calls games for Cal State Northridge.

I'm not even a Dodgers fan and I'd listen to to Vin do a Dodger game any day of the week.
Same in the 2000s Decade.
I remember being out in our boat, fishing in Salton Sea, and listening to Vin and my Dodgers!!!! Great memories from early ‘70’s to ‘90’s!
Man, was Ross Porter good!!! He loved to give many stats, but he was on his game!! Wish he still did play by play for the Dodgers today!
I miss Vin been a Dodger fan since 79 and he will always be the voice

KABC Radio and the Dodgers Radio Network (8-21-1995)
Ross Porter (PBP) 1-3
Vin Scully (PBP) 4-6
Rick Monday (PBP) 7-9
It should have been:
Rick Monday (PBP) 1-3
Scully (PBP) 4-6
Porter (PBP) 7-9
With Producer-Engineer Bob Wall.
My dad remembers listening to dodgers vs Montreal expos on kabc radio 790 am 08-21-1995 via the la dodgers radio network.
This takes me back to when I was a kid. Memories.

Nice gesture to see the rest of the Dodgers broadcasters mentioned by Vin Scully at the beginning of the 2nd inning. 18:38
William T Dunphy And at the 59:11 mark it’s the vastly underrated Ross Porter.
Greg Pitt 28 years, 3 World Series, and should be in the Hall Of Fame. And still a 1 announcer booth in 1995. 1 on radio, 1 on television.

Dick Jauron He had a great career. 28 years, 3 World Series, one of the most underrated Dodgers broadcasters they ever had.
Cal State Northridge picked up Ross Porter. He still calls the games online for CSUN baseball.
Replaced by Charlie Steiner to add insult to injury. Steiner was fine on Sports center, but worst pbp Guy I've ever heard.

How is the audio so good? A lot of the other broadcasts that you find on RUclips have pretty low quality of audio.
Umpires:
HP - Bill Hohn
1B - Steve Rippley
2B - Larry Poncino
3B - Bob Davidson (Acting Crew Chief).
Poncino was filling in for regular CC Jim Quick.
