Of all the places in Greece & the Greek islands I have been to in 50 years of going there, this is the first place where, despite all the greenery, there were NO cicadas in the trees ! Completely silent. I couldn't understand it. That sound is such an iconic Greek sound eh?
Have you been? I went this year thinking it would be mine too. But it wasn't. I was quite disappointed. It's an absolutely beautiful island - undeniably - but I just didn't "feel it". . Loads of yachts, yacht people, cocktails etc, no cicadas in the trees, it just didn't "feel Greek" to me.
Gosh. When was this filmed? I've just had a week's holiday here (Sept '23) & not once could I eat at any of the 5 main tavernas. All seats were reserved for every evening. I had to have a snack one night & a pizza on another. The island is FULL of yachts & "yacht people" & prices reflect this (about 80% more expensive than Athens). I stayed in the studio apartments by that beach & there were 3 (almost 4) rows of sunbeds a mere 18" apart. The first tiny bay is having a hotel built behind it. Just saying.
I'm quite surprised that you had such an experience. Actually we were there in Sept21 and I cannot confirm any of your observations. I guess it could also pertain to Covid19 and I got lucky at the time. However since I have been to a couple other greek island in the last 8 years or so I would not necessarily classify them including Paxos as "Pricy" but that's another topic and is somewhat relative. For example I paid 12.50 for a Moussaka and I find it reasonable.
@@Destination-Anywhere Ah there you go -- that's 2021. . According to cafe & restaurant owners/workers, this development has only been in the last year/18 months -- they say it's because of the drama "Maestro" on TV (Netflix?) which was filmed there . . Paxos is, most definitely, very up-market now & they are catering for that sector. Yachts everywhere & restaurant tables all reserved. Pricey? Yes. example -- a coffee will cost you €5 (€2.50 in Athens). . A breakfast of 2 eggs, toast, orange juice & coffee cost me €18.50, as opposed to €10 in central Athens where I am. A Moussaka will cost a lot more than €12.50 there now.
@@Destination-Anywhere Sorry - just want to mention Antipaxos. . Wow - I've never seen sea SO clear & SO amazingly turquoise. Unbelievable. The 2nd bay is half sunbeds & umbrellas with a taverna set quite far back. The 1st bay - oh dear - it's all sunbeds & umbrellas with a beach bar/taverna along half of the beach. (and don't even mention the beaches at Loggos with that MASSIVE taverna playing awful loud muzak !)
Would it be possible to see this without the music? The sights and sounds of a Greek village, the crickets and the sea, are so lovely.
That’s definitely true, however the voices of my trip mates were so annoying 🥴 I decided to put music on the video.
