Currently working full time in Insurance Consulting, and studying for IFoA professional exams to become a qualified actuary. I studied Physical Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge 2017-2020, and specialised in Astrophysics.

My daughter is starting law school at Cambridge this October and I have been watching all your uni videos to get a sense of what it will be like for her. I’ve been able to relate to many emotions you’ve shared, and cheering you on too, from my quiet corner of the world. Thank you for your lovely, sensible and honest vlogs.

Happy that you get your celebration, but I do not quite understand the use of an MA in the british education system then. If its just something that is handed out to everyone, what use does it serve?
Take a look on Wikipedia of 'Master of Arts (Oxford, Cambridge and Trinity/Dublin)' and all is revealed. These undergraduate degrees are only awarded (promoted) at some ancient universities. Post graduate Masters degrees are, like all other universities, also awarded after further study.

@@denisripley8699 It just feels kinda cheap that my degree will be a Master of Arts as well when there are other universities just handing them out for free xD
@@Avarent01 Yes, confusing but folk 'in the loop' know that eg MA(Cantab), MA(Oxon) is a 'promoted' undergraduate degree, whereas eg MMath, MPhil etc is a postgraduate degree. It's a peculiarity that BA undergraduate degree and not BSc, is awarded irrespective of subject - including science, maths and engineering courses.
It’s not the entire British education system. It’s quirk of history.

Do the ones in your cohort who stayed for a 4th year to get a masters now get a 2nd one? I am rather envious - I worked my butt off for my masters back in the late 70's. But I enjoyed every minute of it. Is Cambridge the only uni in the UK to do this, or does Oxford do it too?

Paige, it is great to see your university friends ago. Are all your friends picking up a Master's degree too? You had your Bachelor degree graduation on October 2022. What is your Master's degree on? Is it your Bachelor degree being converted into a Master's degree? Does it have something to do with the job which you are doing being an Actuary?
She mentioned it in the vlog. It is a tradition that six years after graduation everyone at Cambridge gets an MA whether they have completed an MA or not. Paige did not complete an MA but is still awarded one after so many years of graduating. Some Cambridge tradition.

I have to be honest and say I do not agree with getting a free master's degree because usually people work for a master's degree
