      @@AnItalianKnitter I've never knit a cardigan and probably never will! 😉 About 16 years ago I got all excited about knitting and made way too many scarves, hats and fingerless gloves. I even made two sweaters for Chihuahuas, but none for me. I started a bottom up raglan, which is in various pieces and still on its needles. And I have no clue how to finish it. A couple of months ago I decided to try and use up some of my stash, but I'm afraid it's hopeless. I have a lot, but it's mostly small amounts of each and all different varieties.
      By the way, I find it very useful that you explain how much a piece cost you in materials.

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад

      @@beccogiallo Bottom-up sweaters are too tricky for me, so I feel you! I prefer top-down ones (i.e. No Frills sweater) because I can try them on and more easily decide on the length of the body.
      With your stash yarn, if the yarns are more or less the same weight, could you consider making a scrappy sweater? Like a few rows of each color? Or you could knit headbands with all your leftovers which it’s what I’m doing 😂😅

    Ciao Francesca!🌷 sei troppo carina 🌷 so glad to see your channel growing and more and more comments popping up, yay! The cardigan is lovely, and the buttons make a perfect touch, I will go and check out the channel you mention. It does make things special when they have meaning to us, and knitting is all about that, really putting ourselves into something in many ways. I love how detailed you are in talking about many aspects of your knitting, I find it very useful, the construction, the yarn, your thoughts and processes and choices, the way you go about it. And the price of the sweater is also very useful in my opinion. I am a cardigan person as well, I love them, they are so versatile, and if you button a cardigan up it can be just like a sweater. I still have never knitted anything for myself although I have been knitting for years, on and off. I feel every time I have to sort of "restart" but I have made some more intermediate things. I have always knitted for gifts, and so far the only two pieces I have, are a lacy airy quick easy scarf for me, where I was experimenting recreating a scarf I had bought, with a couple of strands of mohair. At some point I think I want to try and recreate it bigger with 4 strands of mohair as the mohair is a more cheap one and I find it not fluffy enough, but it's pretty in its simplicity. Also I made some fingerless mitts using scraps of yarn, years ago, experimenting with different textures, alternating ribbing and garter and stockinette just to play. Right now, I do have two long term goals in my knitting, one is to stop buying yarn and destash, and the other is to learn to focus on my project and actually finish them! I think that gift knitting helps me because I need to finish a project to gift it, but when it's for me I just get sidetracked....So to end this long message - as usual 😊 - now I am focusing on my purl soho herringbone scarf, and the petite knit novice sweater, both gifts...I really want to finish both asap while it's still coldish...un abbraccio a presto! 🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶

      p.s. I love the headbands! they are really pretty! and also the wips! 🌷and for a summer tee I am planning to make petite knits "sunday tee" I even bought the "original" cotton for it because I saw it on a youtuber knitter and loved it very much. And I also want to knit the cumulus tee at some point...

      @@bluejay5531 Oooh the Sunday Tee looks lovely! I hate knitting rib though, I find it SO tedious 🙈😅
      Also, you are so selfless to knit for others, I’m so impressed! I struggle a little bit to knit for others, I only do it for my very close family and only for Christmas or their birthday and that’s more than enough 😬
      I support you in your destashing/knitting from stash project. That’s so satisfying! I took the chance to do that when I moved back to Italy and didn’t want to bring a whole bunch of yarn with me. I only kept the very few skeins that brought joy to me when I looked at them and I sold everything else 😬
      Good luck with your endeavors and hopefully chat with you soon!

    The Cardigan does look solid and I love the neck line. It sits so nicely. Sometimes knit cardigans have sloppy looking necklines which I don't like. I love Martina's buttons. I just found her podcast too! You did a great job! An inch is about 4 cm. LOL

      While I was knitting the cardigan, I actually thought the neckline was going to be too tight. Pleased to have come across your podcast Francesca, love your approach to knitting.
    I am knitting my first No Frills sweater - unfortunately I didn’t understand the short rows shaping for the back so I am carrying on in the hopes it will look ok - the Flax by Tin Can Knits has no shaping either which has given me the confidence to carry on. Agree that knitting should be an enjoyable hobby so therefore I’m with you re giving a miss to modifications that require a lot of maths.

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад

      Thank you for your support, Jeanette!
      While I do prefer the feel around my neck of sweaters with short row shaping (where the back comes to be higher and the front a bit lower, giving you some extra space around the neckline), the last couple of sweaters I knitted where without short rows (Novice Sweaters by PetiteKnit) and I still wear them. And you mentioned your Flax too, so you’ll be fine without short rows!
      That said, let me know if you’re looking for tutorials for next time and I can help you find some. I think I followed PetiteKnit’s own tutorial I believe but there are several more on RUclips that you might like more.
      Happy knitting in the meantime 👋🏼
