That BnB Chris runs out of is the Marine Lodge, Marine parade, Clacton and the road sign, though new, is still there with the pedestrian crossing!! Great nostalgic video and song!!
I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. To me this is a best Pet Shop Boys song, probably in musicality, one of the best ever made. Genius stuff.
The music was written in collaboration with Italian film composer Ennio Morricone in preparation for a project that evolved into It Couldn't Happen Here, the Boys' fascinating but largely unsuccessful film venture. At the official PSB website, Neil described the composition of the song like this: "Morricone's manager gave us a tape of an unfinished song and told us we could do what we liked with it. Around the chorus melody by Morricone, we wrote verse and intro music and I wrote the words. We never met him." But on another occasion (in an issue of their Fan Club publication Literally), Neil described the circumstances a bit differently, stating how Morricone (or his representatives) had sent them "a funny song about a man building an ark." He went on to add, "We liked the tune of the chorus, so we took the tune of the chorus and wrote a new verse…." (An attempt to provide a succinct step-by-step "recreation" of the process is provided below in the "Annotations.") Details are a bit sketchy, but it seems the Morricone piece from which Chris and Neil borrowed the chorus melody of "It Couldn't Happen Here" may have been originally composed for the 1983 French film Le Marginal, but wasn't actually used. Instead it remained unreleased (and possibly, as Neil described it, "unfinished") until 1999, when it finally saw the light of day as the song "Forecast" by the band Blizzard on the compilation CD Belmondo-Morricone, and still later re-released on an expanded edition of the Le Marginal soundtrack album.
And the orchestral arrangement on this song was written by Angelo Badalamenti ! (Altough no orchestra was used on the final song : it's all done with Fairlight CMI sounds)
I’ll never understand why “One more Chance” and this were not released as singles. When I was 14 I had my first hifi and it had a CD Player. The first track I played on it was “It Couldn’t Happen Here”. 30yrs later I have an identical aiwa NSX-330 that works perfectly (mine died in 1997). Just like 1992, the sound quality is awesome. I’ve got the remastered CD (back in 87 and 88 we wore out three casssettes in the family car) lol. I’ve owned a copy on every format and ‘actually’ is, ironically, actually the only album I’ve ever owned where I like every single track on it!!!!!!!’❤
This song brings back strong memories from when I was 17 years old. A lot happened in my life then, both good and bad. In my opinion, perhaps the best and deepest song from Pet Shop Boys. They really should have found their way back to the harmonic melancholic tunes with symphony orchestra again. Missing! Respect from me...
Bought a Sony walkman in 1987 bought actually to play in it 16 years old went to salou on a siesta bus for a fortnight never had the headphones off great memories. 😂😂
Back in the day my stepbrother lent me a cassette tape of Actually, and it was wound to the start of side B so this was the first PSB song I ever heard and I've loved it ever since.
I love this song and the album, "Actually" very much. I used to have it on cassette tape, and then CD. I used to play it over and over back in the 80's. Thank you.
A partner song to 'Being Boring', an AIDS elegy, PSB reflect with great sadness on the impact of AIDS on their friends and the gay community ....'it couldn't happen here...', but of course it did; this song stands as a memorial.
you have to remember that Twin Peaks and most of David Lynch films were not until the 90ies. (granted, "Blue Velvet" came out in 1986). The cinematography of this PSB movie is just beyond belief.
Pet Shop Boys - It Couldn't Happen Here (1988) Фильм, по альбому Actualliy. Клип - это часть фильма. Степень еб@нутости этого фильиа сложно оценить. Впрочем, это английский стиль, как, например, Монти Пайтон. Советую. И заглавная тема - It Couldn't Happen Here.
I could watch this movie over and over again. It never gets old. :-)
i am just discovering it - this is beyond amazing. The cinematography is so incredible, it really becomes timeless.
54 now and still love this song. The album Actually from which it is taken is a thing of beauty ❤️

To be fair I absolutely agree with You👍
Yup ! Perhaps !
This is a masterpiece. I would say also this is the best PSB song along with King Cross.

Me too . This song I remember I was in high school
A beautiful composition. I love the orchestral arrangements.
Forgot all about this....what a beautiful corker of a tune!

I could listen to anything that Neil sings.
Oh, I want to tell you that I really met a man who is very similar to Neil, he looks like his son, oh my God, he is 😊

Omg The end of the video they walk onto an empty disco floor. How sad 😢 🪩
Utter beauty this song I’m 48 and remember buying this album on vinyl
Got it there on CD. Classic. And much like I suspect you are, I'm a metalhead.
I had this on cassette memories of my walkman on the way to school !
When i Remember........❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤in my life

BRILLIANT! 😊 Silence.
Uauuu memories....
In a parallel universe, this is a Yes song from 10 years earlier. And that's a compliment if there ever was one.
Oh, I can tell you that I really met a man who is very similar to Neil, he looks like his son, this man is cuban 😊
Me encanta esta canción del álbum actually es maravilloso unos genios.
Filmed in Clacton-on-Sea, hasn't changed that much at all.
After the hurricane in october 1987
///___una obra de arte
Nunca había visto esta película.
It's quite hard to get hold of, even here sadly..
La película se llama It could not happen here como el nombre de esta cancion y la puedes encontrar en RUclips por pedazos
Gret Song. Written by Ennio Morricone.
Only the chorus section. PSB wrote everything else.
Awesome reflective song... I like of the Pet Shop Boys! Savvy?

Poorly designed product, both the DVD and Blu-ray are unfortunately blocked from the rest of the world. It should be Region Free for both discs.
The full movie is here on youtube, i watched it earlier this year :)
