What an AMAZING and fascinating journey you have outlined to focus the attention on an issue that is so unambiguously so very dear and close to you. Your Rockumentary immediately held me captive, not only because of my familiarity and prior exposure to the core message embedded in your production, but every word, every note, every plucked string, every place depicted in the movie reverberated a range of emotions that took me on my own personal journey down a similar memory lane.
I first heard about "Journey of a Dream" a couple of years ago, but I only got to WATCH this production today. I have to tell you I am riveted, as I am sure many were, not just by the richness of the content, but also the candid storyline that speaks of extreme personal struggles, failures, triumphs and successes that echo the individual narratives of so many people who migrated to this country, under similar circumstances as yours, in hopes of realizing their own personal and individual dreams.
Aside from the interlacing of poignant personal anecdotes that heightens the intrigue of the rockumentary (cool term btw), who knew Heavy Metal could bear such strong undertones of freedom in its cadence! What you have done and combined sets a precedence and a genre of its own. You have masterfully used a nontraditional channel and tool to communicate and express a deep desire that speaks of basic freedom and basic rights that each human desires in their everyday life. What you have chronicled here inevitably and immediately sets you on a path to demand answers for questions that have remained unanswered for so many decades for you, your parents and for entire generations of Tibetans who are looking to return home to their motherland.
Aside from the political message, I really enjoyed and appreciate your efforts to provide a platform to showcase the talents of local musicians in Darjeeling. Their raw passion for music and joie de vivre is crystallized in their words and at the same time undeniably stirs warm fuzzy feelings that only thoughts of ‘back home’ can evoke. I was also quite amused by your amala’s comment about your choice of music and how starkly it differs from her, own preference of music. Guess that’s something you both will have to contend with, and happily so, for quite a long time.
Well, I wish you all the very best as you surge ahead in your quest towards independence. Music surely is a universal language that connects and ties so many people, places and faces across traditional and untraditional lines and geographical/societal boundaries. The power of your message lies in your music, and I am confident one day, you will enjoy every sip of THAT much sought after cuppa tea (pheo cha) overlooking the Himalayas in Free Tibet!
