      The outerbanks on the coast of NC does that, you can rent a sand wheelchair for free! But last time I checked Sanibel was renting them out for at least $500 a week? It's so weird how some places make accessibility a priority while others don't. @@SWFBeachLife

    Dear Sharmon,
    What a lovely day at the beach! 😍 Your alarm clock went very early to catch the start of low tide after that 3 hour drive. 🫣
    But what a great haul of shells. I love the shiva shells. And I can totally understand why you wanted to pick them all up. They are so cute.
    It's really strange that you can find the Chestnut Turban also on other beaches, but their operculums only on Honeymoon Island.
    Didn't you pick up a lot of Shiva shells the previous time you went to the Island? Think I can remember something like that.
    And that huge Lettered Olive your husband found. Wow, that's stunning!
    Beach time is always so wonderful; I close my eyes and imagine I'm walking on the beach with you. It's so relaxing.
    Thank you for this wonderful video!
    I hope you have a wonderful week! Hopefully less rain than here in the Netherlands. 😅
    Sending you lots of love and of course a big hug, xoxo ❤, Ilona

      Yes, I went a little crazy picking up shiva shells the last time I was at Honeymoon Island. It's the only place I've ever found them! And this time of year it really doesn't rain here. I think I was last year it literally didn't rain for months. So we're in the dry and cool season. I just need a good NW wind or a good winter storm to churn things up. It gets cold, but it also bring the shells onto the beach! I hope you have a week of nothing but good things!! XOXOXO

    I believe that was a ribbed cantharis. They come in lots of colors but I've never seen one quite like that! It's not easy shelling the break line at HISP as it is murky often - especially since renourishment. Well, sadly the rocks got much more prominent after Idalia. A lot of sand got taken away. It's starting to fill in now though. I think you were right about the mauve-mouth drill. After Idalia, I came across a Morton's egg graveyard section. They are really beautiful inside! I have a bunch for crafting now.😊 Yes, I've found a few nice star shells.😊 Ok so that wasn't the rock guy I thought it was because he would have told you that last piece with the concentric lines is actually agatized coral! All in all, you had a pretty good day and I'm happy the drive was worth it. Missed seeing you. Maybe next time... Love my park❤! Thanks Sharmon. xxoo

    Is it my imagination or was the beach different this time? Maybe the tide or the recent storms changed the rack lines. Can’t complain tho. You got what you went for. I missed turkey wings and the baby’s ears you found last time.

      Wow - what a fabulous memory you have! That baby ear I found last time was indeed a stellar specimen. The beach was a little different as Hurricane Idalia tossed it around it a bit. Luckily it was cleaned up by the time we visited but these beaches are constantly changing, and a storm just makes that happen a little more dramatically.

      As you would imagine, public beach parking was easy to find at sunrise at FMB and at Sanibel, but the lots were almost full to capacity before noon. Guess I'll be shelling in the early morning as the season heats up! Shelling was fantastic at FMB on Sunday, 11/12. I was on a mission to find friends for my one alphabet cone. The tides brought me a beautiful alphabet cone, 2 Florida (I think) cones and a small cone of some unknown variety lol. Other fun finds were a super chunky olive, a lovely gaudy nautica and an absolutely perfect angel wing (with the scoop)! Sanibel on Friday, 11/17 was spectacular! It was definitely an orange day - orange scallops for days! There were 3 wrack lines, chunky stuff all over the beach and so many shell piles. I found another alphabet cone above the 2nd wrack line and 6-7 horse conchs just lying on the sand. We were away midweek but I understand some high winds may have contributed to the stellar shelling. What a day! Awaiting tomorrow's video - hope the shelling gods were good to you too!

      @@SWFBeachLife Not sure why it didn't work. The Hawaiian Turban is apparently the source of the cat's eyes I used to find (I looked it up) It is completely white, top and bottom, with the bottom having the spiral pattern. Is that the type you have?

      @SWFBeachLife  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@chelseamorning608 It is! Spiral on one side and a yellow lump on the other. I was hoping it would work. Did you know bubbles shells glow under UV light?

    Did you ever make it to pass a grill beach? You're so close when you're at honeymoon... My favorite bay area shelling beach. Bayside is fuller than gulf side

    I’m going here next month! Did you just go into the park and head right out to the beach or is there a better spot further down or where did you go?

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  4 месяца назад

      I drove as far into the park as I could, parked and walked to the right, toward the north end of the island. I've heard at high tide it can be tricky as part of the beach gets flooded. Good luck and happy shelling!

    Hi! Love your videos! I wanted to ask about a project im making for my mother for christmas. We shell together. So im making her a canvas with some of our collected shells on it. Im using plaster to make a rocky sandie base. But I dont dip my shells in acid or bleach. And really dont want to buy it for such a small project. I was wondering how u feel about using nail polish on shells. To give them a glossy looks. If not. Do you have another suggestion? Thank you so much!

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  6 месяцев назад

      Here is the think about collecting, preserving and displaying your shells. You can't do it wrong. There are no rules - or least there shouldn't be. We all have our way of doing things. I personally do not like when the shells have a "fake" shine to them, but I have seen people put shiny sparkly spray on shells and I loved it! So you do what YOU want to do and don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong!
      When there is a shell I don't want to use acid on, I use mineral oil, but I wouldn't recommend you do that since the oil may mess with the glue or plaster. I would say try a "test" shell and if you like it you have your answer 😃

      Mod podge works awesome instead of nail polish. If u want the shine or matte … u could buy either or. Inexpensive too! Happy crafting! She will love whatever u make for her. :)

    How do you look in the water with the waves? I tried and started getting seasick!

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  6 месяцев назад

      The camera doesn't give you that 360 degrees of moving the water, so I know that some shots of that moving water can be less than ideal. Sorry about that! Typically the water is moving slower and it's clear so you can see the shells right through the water. It doesn't always work out that way but when it does it's SUPER fun to hunt for shells like that.

    Good evening, Beach Angel! It's been a horrendous day, so I'm primed and ready to go to the beach with you.
    It's nice to go to a beach where shells are usually plentiful. So this is where you got all the turbans! Good thing that the turban warehouse is relatively close!
    There has to be something crafty to do with the turban operculums ... opercula ... doors?
    Beautiful cardita! Those matched yellow bay scallops woul, indeed, make great earrings. Send them to me and I'll make them for you!
    Sea glass gets tumbled by the waves, so maybe that's the word you were searching for, love.
    I really appreciate this quiet, calm video, Beach Angel. I needed it so badly! My soul has been soothed by the gentle lapping of the waves and I can sleep well tonight.
    I'm so glad that you found the turbans you needed for your lamp. You had a great shell day, too! Hubby seemed to enjoy himself, too. So glad you two had a wonderful day!
    Drusy quartz can be found inside geodes in many colors.
    You're almost far enough north to find Tampa Bay Agate. It is pretty when sliced.
    So glad you and your dear husband had a great trip, Sharmon.
    Much love from The Lost Mermaid

      This trip to the beach was the start of a fun-filled weekend! We did this then we also checked out the pier at St. Petersburg. We visited the Dali Museum (he's my favorite) and we also saw the sunken gardens. Then we toured the Selby Gardens on the way home - they were beautiful. So we managed to see this gorgeous beach and a bunch of other fun things. Coming from the NY area, these little cities I visit are so cute. St. Petersburg was just darling. I love it here in Florida!! 🌴🌊🐚❤️
