Thank you for all the kind comments. This wasn't an easy decision to make, and I've been going back and forth on it for a few months now. I'm glad that people enjoy the content no matter what I cover, as that makes it far easier to simply work on what I enjoy covering. I still hope to do more Lovecraft readings, horror topics, and maybe even some more video game content, so stay tuned.

yeah and the horror narration community on here is...well, I would say hopping, in that it seems to gather *a lot* of viewership, but RUclips also seems to irrationally hate that kind of content and does everything it can to strangle the life out of it lately (like even though I watch a lot of it, as of last week RUclips has stopped recommending me videos of that type even from channels I'm subscribed to, which doesn't seem accidental), so the situation is kind of complex. Sticking to older, public domain material makes things easier I think, but there also seems to be a deeper aversion that Google has to that type of content, too.

    • @vanessaashford9203
      @vanessaashford9203 Год назад

you know honestly there is something really messed up about the algorithms, recently, like just as of last week I suddenly stopped getting recommendations for a reasonably popular type of content that I watch regularly, and I've seen similar things happen with other types of content as well recently. Essentially, it seems as though RUclips is basically trying to choke out certain kinds of content for any number of reasons. I think in some cases it's because that content is something they view as a liability, or as giving the site an image they don't want (like, any channels that cover horror-related content have essentially been in a struggle against Google for the last several years or so, as RUclips practically declared algorithmic/demonetizational war against them).
I'm not sure how, or if, SCP content fits into this whole thing, but it frankly wouldn't surprise me if RUclips decided it didn't like SCP channels for whatever reason and shifted recommendations accordingly (considering, again, they seem to have done with types of content which should rake them in quite a bit *more* money, so I don't always get the logic behind it). It also wouldn't surprise me if this is actually playing a big role in why SCP content has dropped off in popularity, as a lot of people rely heavily on recommendations for the finding new content, and that's just kind of a reality. It really pisses me off if that's the case, because like I said, this would at least the second time this type of thing has happened lately with content I like.
I really wish there was a solution, but short of another video site competing with RUclips (which isn't about to happen any time soon), we're essentially all left with Google partly controlling what type of content is viable on here, which also probably means, sadly, SCP content is only going to further fall by the wayside, since that very well may be the trend that (for whatever reason) RUclips wants. SCP doesn't exactly strike me as something Google would hate in the way they seem to hate horror/creepypasta/etc. type of content or things like that, but frankly, I don't get what exactly they want this hellsite to be anymore, so who knows.

Every year or so I get a new channel that I end up deciding is my ride or die, and I basically go through their whole catalog and enjoy every damn minute of it. This last year that's been you, and I want to thank you for, intentionally or not, improving the actual quality of my life. I haven't been here since day one, or anything, you were already a sizeable channel when I got into your stuff and you've only grown since then. That to say, to me you've always been a pretty big youtuber. In my time watching your videos I've noticed more and more that you go above and beyond what anyone as a viewer would expect you to do in terms of involving your audience in decisions and events regarding your channel. Just off the top of my head you made a community post when you took your first month off in a few years, and you still put up new videos -- even if they were remasters which I would've taken as a regular video regardless -- and you were very apologetic and clearly cared what we, your audience thought, and wanted to make sure we knew what was up and that we were involved. I would never expect anyone, especially in current-year youtube, to give announcements and reach out like you're writing a letter to a few friends. That you do that is something I can't thank you enough for, because it's hard to say just what I'm thanking you for. But you're a rare channel that makes me feel like I'm valued as a fellow fan of the content and not as clicks or ad-cents or "WOW CRAZY CHANNEL CHANGE? GET A RIDGE WALLET TO FIND OUT" (feel free to say yes to sponsorships btw, not knocking that, we all gotta secure the bag, but you know what I mean). You've been my favorite SCP channel since like your third video I saw, and you've cemented yourself as one of my favorite people on this platform, not just creators, because you're not just some creator, you're another person in this little crowd of lore-fiends. To put it more briefly and parrot what all of us are saying in the comments: I'm here for the ride, and will happily learn everything about anything you think is interesting enough to make a (fantastic quality, as they all are, had to mention that) video about. You didn't have to let us know like this, or even at all, and I just don't expect people making videos to express such genuine consideration for the audience like that. But the fact that you have, and you did, and I'm sure you will continue to, is just another thing I endlessly appreciate you for, and I want to thank you so much for the places you've allowed us, me, to explore with you. Can't wait to see where we go exploring next.

I know that it was not a well preforming video, but your video about Sigil, the City of Doors from D&D is one of my personal favorites on the channel. D&D is doing quite well in terms of popularity and, though there's a plethora of creators that cover Monsters and such, I personally think you would very easily be able to carve out a niche in the space. You could apply the dramatic stories and vivid scenery that you evoke especially well in SCPs like the Kaktusverse, Mamjul & Korar and Amoni-Ram, Neon God, the Bellerverse, and even back to older videos like the Lord Blackwood, and Red Sea Object, to different notable locations like Icewind Dale or Neverwinter within the Forgotten Realms or other settings.
Additionally, I'd love to see your put your own flair on different factions throughout D&D, like how you covered the Serpents Hand or different races and subfactions in 40K. The recent D&D movie that just came out has groups like the Red Wizard of Thay and the Harpers so I'm sure those in particular would be popular.
Last argument for D&D is that, in my opinion, the biggest draw towards your SCP videos especially is the community of writers that make fresh content. Covering things like LOTR and, to a lesser extent, 40K seems difficult because you're fighting against others with videos on the same old topics. Homebrew D&D settings probably compose at least half of all campaigns and if you could find a way to share some of those settings I feel people would flock to the community driven feel of those videos. There's also a wealth of old official novels and settings that you could make accessible and relevant.
You could also cover something like Critical Role, where there's a massive audience, but so many hours of content and such a huge world that people really want digestible content for so they can be introduced to the world.
Suggestions I'd like to see aside, your videos are excellent and I keep coming back and listening to every episode for you more than for any specific setting or story because you just make anything you touch so interesting and no matter what something always sticks in my mind each episode which is the absolutely highest praise I could ever give as a veritable dumbass.
Much love, can't wait to keep exploring with you and this community

wdym by a growing divide between onsite and offsite? Because I've seen a couple controversies that have surfaced on r/scp (which I glance in on every so often), but (imho) they were pretty ridiculous (like I'm mostly thinking of the whole thing of people freaking out when they changed the site logo colors for Pride Month a few times over the last couple years, although to play devil's advocate a bit, even as an LGBT person I did kind of find the way DJKaktus handled the more recent controversy to be...not the most becoming, even if I obviously agree with where he was coming from), but I don't religiously follow SCP drama, so there might be other stuff I've missed that's driving people away or whatever. I still personally think algorithmic bullshit on RUclips's part is as or more likely an explanation for lessening viewership on here.
If it's more of a general shift in popularity across the internet, that actually (might) make me less pessimistic, as tbh general online interest in SCP seems to have fluctuated throughout its history, so it very well could be that there's a chance for revitalization in the future (I do somewhat question how sustainable long term fandom will be if the brand doesn't diversify more, so to speak, by which I mean probably trying to get more SCP-based popular media out there, like a well-made game or a show; I think at least theoretically the fanbase is there, I just think not everyone has the patience for wading through all the written content on the site, especially with the unconventional formatting and tone, and even in the best of times, RUclips lore videos on it are going to be kind of niche).

yeah I'm always down for more non-fictional folklore and mythology stuff, especially since it has (as of a couple years ago) become the focus of a really large non-fiction writing project of mine, and it's *really* hard to find anyone online who makes accessible content about the more obscure corners of it (by which I mean, not just the European mythologies basically everyone knows about, but stuff from various lesser known cultures or religious traditions from around the world, even though there's so much to pull from there. I really liked how the videos about the "Orkney Rising" SCP canon brought some attention to the little-known but incredibly rich local folklore and mythology of the Orkney Islands, like an entire video or more could easily be dedicated to that topic alone).
Granted, I don't know how much overall interest there actually is in lore from outside of fictional universes, though, but it could very well be there, and would definitely be a niche I haven't seen filled yet.

also, by "Dark Sun", I assume you're talking about the old 2e DnD campaign setting? Are people still making material for that? I first played DnD when I was little during the 2e era (yes, I'm old, lol), and while the mechanics of the system back then definitely left a lot to be desired, I miss all of the creative campaign settings (Planescape was another really good one, although I almost feel like I remember TES going over a bit of Planescape stuff a while back?), and just like how much more dedicated to lore it feels like TSR was compared to how it has been since WoC acquired the rights to it, like even though they've made the game system more approachable in the recent editions, I feel like the official material has also just become very vanilla, generic high fantasy compared to how the quirky older settings were (even the mainline game, like Greyhawk campaign setting or whatever, used to have so many more weird monsters and stuff that have slowly disappeared from the official materials, almost like WoC considers them too silly or something), but maybe the whole point is to just have more of a blank slate for DMs to design their own creative worlds around, etc.

@@if91100 that's good to hear, I only very recently found a group to play DnD with again, and honestly only know about 5e stuff peripherally, and long ago lost track of online fan projects for updating the old settings and wasn't sure if they had continued or not. So wait, are people keeping Spelljammer up for 5e as well??? Because that's another one of the weirder old settings that I missed and thought was really inventive, and which I've never really seen any other fictional universe quite like (the roguelike Sunless Skies is probably the closest I've seen to it in any recent media, but even it's still just not really the same). Once I become more familiar with 5e rules I was thinking about trying to DM a campaign myself at some point (because several people who know me and have seen my writing or heard my writing ideas have suggested they'd be really curious about the ideas I'd come up with as a DM), and an updated version of Spelljammer or something might be really tempting to run an adventure in.

Before I learned of this channel I had pretty much no knowledge of what SCP was, and fast-forward a few years and I have read the entirety of the 7,000 series. I cannot express how grateful I am for your readings and I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Do what you feel drawn to. You've analyzed lots of topics. Be kind to yourself. Sounds like you need to ease up on yourself. You are not abandoning anyone or anything. You are exploring. Explore and do what's best for you - that's how we get the good stuff. Be you.

I literally owe this channel so much. You’re the reason I got in Lovecraft, 40k and SCP. I am always excited to see what’s coming next and your take on anything. The only thing I’d ever ask was for longer versions of those old style Lovecraft videos because I love and rewatch those often but they’re so short! Anyways thank you for years of amazing content and I can’t wait for even more 💜

You are one of the most respected creators amongst my 977 subscribed channels. Despite SCP putting me onto this field of content, im so down for pretty much anything you do. Your lovecraft readings are honestly the best around, and I thank you for making so much stuff for us over the years.

You have 977 subscribed channels? Is that how young people use RUclips now? How do you even pay attention to all that? It’s like a full time job.

Honestly this is exciting news to me
I got introduced to scp through you, the first video i watched of yours, think it was that scp with the 10 high school cheerleaders don't remember what it was called, but ive been here since
Though, scp gets a little boring at times, and ive really wanted to hear more different stories, some of my favorites of yours are the non scp ones, the one time videos like you do for October
So this is really exciting for me and im exciting to see what you do next
    Keep up the good work

Drama is a major factor which has driven many people away. Drama within the community and beloved authors being pushed out has taken its toll over time.
