Loved this movie. Brilliant use of sound, tension. Wasn’t bored at all. Even a few off camera kills went decent. The only thing I wasn’t huge on was the ending.
My wife and I both loved it. I don’t understand people saying it was boring, there were literally half a dozen absurdly brutal kills sprinkled throughout the movie.
I liked the ending after it ended. After she begins running (not really a spoiler?) it was clear the director wanted to build tension, playing off PTSD and played that until the very end - everytime I'm thinking oh this is it ... nope. Wonderful at building tension after setting the rules and expectations.
@@BenjaminKurugaExactly! I loved the ending. I appreciated important detail of the strange(r) lady doing everything in her power to keep the final girl from falling asleep and passing away due to blood loss and trauma. I’ve seen a lot of comments on multiple reviews dismissing her efforts as unnecessary rambling, when it was the perfect combo of a realistic rescue + a bit of paranoia in wondering if she also had ulterior motives. Then the final girl’s inability to relax on the pit stop, even though she was finally safe and MILES away from the killer, was such a devastating moment of helplessness. We know that she will forever feel like she’s being followed.
The entire film is shot from the Killer’s Perspective. The camera begins to follow the woman as she is fleeing the woods. When the girl fleeing the woods is entering the pickup truck, something whispers from the forest and her entire demeanor changes. One could argue she was in shock and slipping out of consciousness. However, my interpretation (partly based on the camera following the perspective of the Killer) is that the traumatized girl becomes the killer. The final scene, the girl has blood appear on her cheek. I believe she killed the woman driving her to the hospital. Why? As the stranger in the truck says, “Some animals kill for no particular reason.” I could be completely missing the point, but that is my interpretation. Curious to read your thoughts and criticisms of my take.
Kinda sad that the biggest Friday the 13th film we’ve gotten in 10 years or so is a movie that can’t even call itself that, even despite it most likely being based on a unused script for a Friday the 13th film with how much it gives off that vibe.
It goes to show that everyone wants a new Jason movie. (I mean the last time we saw him was 15 YEARS AGO!) And because the rights have been so messed up, so many filmmakers have made homages, rip-off, parodies or just simply made fan films dedicated to the F13 themselves.
I agree, it just really wanted me to look at a Jason movie. This movie had a lot of potential, but did they have to show him walking through the woods so much. That crap was making me tired.
Yep, I agree. I considered Johnny like a diet-Jason Voorhees. Not bad by any means but I feel the Friday the 13th crowd really gravitated towards this film because of that vibe. People really are itching for another Friday the 13th film.
Hahaha I put boring or brilliant? In my thumbnail. It’s definitely divisive and I honestly felt both. In this, I thought there was more good than bad. The effects and kills are amazing, but dang those last 10 mins. Woof!
Yeah I was ready to walk out because I heard the ending was kind of trolling done by the director (apparently he responded to replies on twitter in an abrasive way)
@@Blue.1889 wow, that’s so disappointing that he is like that. I did hear that he mentioned he actually put some of the stuff in the film to actually irritate people. That’s totally confusing?!? Why would anyone want to alienate their audience?!? Wild.
I loved this film. I feel like the director was very inspired by the story telling that is done in open world video games. 3rd person over the shoulder with the story being pieced together by overhearing people you come across or visual storytelling. There is a very cool sense of okay so the legend of Johnny is true in this world, but depending on the character you hear it from there may be some differences in what is believed about the story. Also loved the change of perspective at the end, as it did a lot to create the tension. Whereas when we are following Johnny as the audience you feel safe. You can watch the horror knowing that you are behind the brute, but when he’s no longer in our sight, I was staring at the woods thinking that he is somewhere in this frame, but I can’t see him and that is unsettling. This movie is definitely going in my Halloween rotation every year, but I am also the person who loves The Outwaters, Skinamarink, and every Cronenbergs and Lynch film I can get my hands on. So if you aren’t in to art house it may just not be for you and that’s fine. But we need people pushing the boundaries like this to get new experiences and stuff like this is why I love film.
"Whereas when we are following Johnny as the audience you feel safe." This describes it perfectly. My heartrate didn't go up until the last 15 minutes of the film.
I loved the no music, the crunching grass , the insects sounds, etc. I grew up in a very rural country area much like this. For me the nature sounds, long walking, was very immersive! It brought me back those summer country moments, but juxtaposed with this horror. Also loved how the nature sounds changed at night near the end. I agree for the campfire scene. Still give us the story, but let's see the killer do some behind the scenes prep.
I’m from Ontario and kept saying this has to be Canada when I’m as watching. Loved it. When the ending song started mentioning northern Ontario I got chills.
Had a really good time with this one. Had someone in my audience yell everyone to sue this film and most people hated it. I did like it a lot surprisingly
Yoga girl had zero will to live. She basically offed herself. She could have easily ran to the side, but nope. Also, her spine was ripped out, how was she still standing and able to turn around?
For me this movie was a 5/10 like damn was it pretty boring especially the ending. I was literally about to walk out bc I was expecting something to happen. I liked the kills especially the yoga kill, I liked the cinematography, I liked the design of the killer with a definitely interesting mask, the setting was nice. Other than that omg I was really bored like in some moments I was fine seeing him just walk by himself but other times I was like can y’all hurry up this is getting boring. The fact that was done on purpose to annoy audiences is so stupid to me.
It's because it wasn't done on purpose. The director definitely just said that so he wouldn't receive criticism for it. I actually love the movie, but the creator is a douche
@@BreydanArchibaldit was done on purpose Cody Leach asked the director himself why he filmed the movie the way he did and that was his response to annoy the audience.
Honestly I really liked it! I would say the only thing I would hate about the film is that it’s not a lot of fun since I love slasher movies that has that fun gory moments! But I think in a violent nature works since it’s something very different, gives me Friday the 13th vibes and is doing its own thing, although it is very slow and I can see why some people may get bored by it, but I love that it is supposed to be serious. And the one kill scene really shocked me! And the only thing I really loved about the whole movie is you get to see the Killer Prospective throughout the entire movie and that’s what I really liked since now I can now see what Jason or Michael or any other slasher does after they kill their next victim!!! Overall I really liked it! I’ll only see the movie again on digital, and also really liked your opinion and videos!
I’m surprised to see the divide bc my audience was intrigued to see what Johnny is gonna do next like I know the lack of music and scenery is limited but that’s what makes this stand out to show the tension between what it’s like when the killer is the main focus rather than have filler storylines with our teen characters who are there to die
i didn’t like the film, but i appreciate that someone made it. to me its a failed experiment. it mainly lacked tension, when we followed Johnny there was no tension because we knew what was going to happen. but the couple times we shifted perspectives, there was immediate tension.
The concept was nice. Execution was boring. The actors were horrible, they showed 0 emotions when friends were killed and the story was lacking. Overall was very disappointed. Some of the kills were cool.
I did NOT understand the ending at all, that monologue was like 10 minutes long of unnecessary time wasted and also what really pissed me off about this movie was the fact that many of the victims didn’t realize the humongous killer standing right in front of their faces 🙄
Outstanding review by the way. Nice to see intellegent content creators who can formulate interesting and well thought out ideas without relying on jump cuts. Bravo!
Just saw this last night. I thought it was a very genius way to view the perception of the killer. One thing they did so well was the atmosphere and scenery is beautiful! Something I wish was better was the dialogue from the characters. (the teens more specifically) I think the kills and the vulnerability of Johnny really made this movie stand out to me. One of my favorites this year.
It felt like I’m in the middle. I enjoyed the movie, but nothing about it really stood out aside from the cinematography and killer. I never found it boring, but I never loved it either. One character cannot make a movie great. There’s only one thing that bothers me a lot is how the naturalistic cinematography really clashes with the dialogue which feels like generic movie dialogue. Also the ending was not great. I feel like it makes sense, but they needed to find a way for it to work better.
I'm one of the many who really loved and got pretty messed up by Skinamarink, I know it isn't for everyone but watching that one gave me a sense of dread and anxiety. I really did enjoy this movie as well but I do see the points you're making, especially about the whole campfire scene. I would have loved to have seen Johnny go about and doing things while we still heard the conversation the others were having. Overall I still enjoyed this movie and would not mind seeing more with a bigger budget for them juicy kills. My theater let out hella gasp and screams of excitement during the yoga scene, some even hid their faces from what I seen LOL.
Your reviews are always exactly how I feel, I think you’re the best filmtuber and honestly the most reliable I’ve found for these kinds of things on RUclips
The yoga kill was ludicrous but the one that got me was the back break before the log cutter, so primal and brutal just the guttural noises and the cracks ugh really gross stuff
You hit the nail on the head man. Felt like it was an old slasher and was fun at times. Your perspective on what movies they got this character from are exactly what I was thinking after I saw it. Solid review.
@@sirrchillthe part at the end where she was staring into the woods, I swore I saw him coming or hiding out. That’s how much this movie fucked with your head
Yeah the movie felt pretty barebones, which makes me not have it up there with my favorite movies of the genre which tend to have pretty solid character work and interesting themes. Although this one had some interesting thematic weight to it, but not that much.
While I really enjoyed almost the entire film, the ending really kicked the legs out from under it. It pretty much ruined the whole experience. In the film's final few minutes, you could just feel the movie slipping away. I couldn't escape the feeling that the filmmakers simply didn't know how to end it... so they didn't. The movie just petered out and then the credits rolled. It was sad. They came sooooo close.
I enjoyed 'In a Violent Nature,' but the pace needed to be tightened up a bit. The movie is 95min long; could have easily trimmed 15-20min off the runtime (5 from final scene and at least 10 out of all the walking scenes). Other than that, it has a lot going for it; the kills, the effects, the killer, the lore and the camera work are all very good. I really hope it gets a sequel.
I wish his senses were highlighted more from his POV. Like the sharpness of his hearing. There were a couple of times when he would be far away from his victims and his hearing seem to put him right next to them especially with his last brutal kill, Jean Jacket Hero. Maybe that’s why the crunching of the grass was so prominent. And to add on to your point about the “teleportation.” That was a missed opportunity to chop down the “boring” parts. It would have been awesome seeing his knowledge of the woods and what shortcuts he would take to get ahead of his victims.
The kills were cool, especially the Yoga scene. But I feel like the lumber splitting machine went on too long. The movie was pretty boring most of the time just following a silent protagonist who’s aimlessly walking around. I hated how they built so much suspense but it didn’t pay off with a scare at all. The concept was cool, but the execution was bad. And I HATED the face reveal
@@nytrobros.4810 No, I mean...this one... ruclips.net/video/qvZRqr1PtrQ/видео.htmlsi=Kob-HmfZ-fCldU45 This is the link for the movie that I referred to, and you see why.
The only thing I really hated was the 10-15 minute bear story we could of been fine with out it , I enjoyed the movie but it is boring lol , the kills are really good in my opinion, if you only watch horror movies for kills then you shouldn’t be disappointed.
I found this movie somewhat satisfying. It had some great kills, which I was hoping for. However, it did have pacing issues. There was a lot of slow walking, but I could understand why. It provided the perspective of a killer, such as Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers.
I loved it. The loud sound of amplified walking thematizes the scares in quite a frightening way. That was the actual purpose of it: to increase the fright by thematizing stalking phenomena via sound.
While I believe Friday the 13th works best in the 80s, this movie proves it could still work in modern times. This movie was deffo made for us Friday fans!
Solid review by a dude who gets it. I liked the film. Wasn't a 10/10 (probably a 5-7/10) but there were many analogyish, tranquil, experimental, and POV aspects (besides the great kills and sfx by Kostanski) that I'd like to see implemented in the future.
Great point in saying Johnny could have been setting up things while the story was being told. That would’ve been a good way to show how he sets up the kills and thinks them out.
I agree, but one issue I have with the film is that it needs to pick a lane with Johnny. He is described as slow/simple at one point, which is backed up by the scene where he's playing with the car on the keychain. However, in other scenes he displays intelligence in setting up traps, such as when he sets off the car horn and walks around the cabin to get behind one of the campers.
@@Morbid0007 yeah it’s just like Jason in the originals Jason was “slow” I guess you could say but the remake he was like a absolute genius the way had traps set up around camp and his way to move and live off the land” yeah if they do a sequel to this…NGL I’d love to see what they can do with Johnny, I think there’s so much potential there!
@@Ryans_world215 I really liked how the 2009 F13 movie struck the balance between Jason as simple-minded, but also an extremely proficient outdoorsman. The 'follow the killer' format would definitely benefit from showing the setting up of traps and use of tunnels/shortcuts. It would give the audience something to watch that's more interesting than walking through nature for long stretches, and less expensive for the filmmakers than insane practical effects (not that anyone would complain about a few more of those).
@@Morbid0007 haha absolutely agree no one should complain but some will lol there’s always those. But yeah man lotta great points idk fingers crossed we get more content from the director and the character of Johnny!
With that title, this flick delivers on the gore factor and the gorgeous environment. The forest I love it when film titles have multiple meanings. The excessive gore and unconventional camerawork in a fabulous setting is an ambitious combination of grindhouse meeting art house. I can see how it could be considered boring for most people because of how slow-paced it is and the lack of music. That didn't bother me. I consider those the film's biggest strengths. What makes this film stand out for me is how unique it looks, sounds, and feels. I was enamoured from start to finish because I hadn't seen anything like this before
It’s nice to see a movie trying something new and be different, but we can’t just give something a good review because it’s different. I strongly agree with Chris’s review. (Can’t wait to see a movie like this done better, not that this movie is that bad.)
just left the movie theater.. i feel the movie was AMAZING. my husband is a huge Jason fan and yes agreed it was very similar it still stood out on its own. every kill was disgusting, the pace was slow but we aren’t watching a 2000 horror movie people!! the tension, the silence, the leaves crunching, the cinematography and lurking was 10/10. i feel people nowadays have no attention span for these types of films and miss out on the great films like this! the whole point of the movie is johnny POV of course its slow?? if u wanna watch something that makes u uneasy this is a perfect movie to see in theaters!
I wanted to like this movie so badly...but for many of the reasons you talked about, I just walked out of the theater feeling really disappointed. I could get past the acting and dialogue, I wasn't expecting perfection, but the nature shots and extensive walking were just too much for me. I was fighting sleep at certain points because some of the sequences just overstayed their welcome. The yoga kill was top notch! It unfortunately was not enough for me to redeem the movie, but I respect what they were trying to do. I would like to see another attempt at this type of movie, I think they're on to something here even if, in my personal opinion, it didn't hit the mark.
7.5 don't get me wrong they did something different it was cool to see killer's point of view but the pacing was too slow then the ending was medicore.
I noticed the softer looking moments. I may be wrong but I think they changed the aperture within the lens to change the depth of field for different shots.
I don't think it's boring at all. If you count all the "down time" in a normal woods slasher movie, it's about the same time. I've personally never really attached myself to any characters in the slasher movies aside from the killer. So, being with the killer the whole time is refreshing for me. From time perspective and amount of kills, it's very much like the early 80s friday movies. 8/10. Hightly recommend.
This is better than Friday the 13th because it is told from the killer's perspective and none of the humans here are the real character. People who just want to see another Michael Myers or Jason doing what they always do don't know the real art behind this movie.
Went and saw it last night. It was more Hatchet than Friday the 13th, but Holy cow! I don't have the attention span of a middle schooler. I loved this movie so much 🤩 I dug the follow the killer but I hope we get a part two where it's part POV and regular movie. Man I hope they make more soon. Like Hell House LLC is going regular movie instead of found footage. I can't wait to see that. I gave IAVN a 10 out of 10. MORE MORE MORE!
I completely agree! I think too many peoples attention spans are too short for this one, But if you can give it your full attention and understand it is a slower movie its absolutely awesome.
@@Zero_63194 My attention span is an indication of quality for me as I have ADHD, and I was never bored with this movie. Although I didn't find it that great either, just a fine slasher movie.
@@thomasffrench3639 I thought it was awesome! But I can see where you're coming from, I think if we get a sequel or a prequel to flesh this out more and with a bigger budget it could make this a new cult classic hit series.
@@thomasffrench3639agreed. This movie held my attention more than most dumb horror movies, and I respected the approach and style, just don’t think it was anything groundbreaking.
The more i sit with it, the more i like the ending. I thought it was a really poetic way of showing the final girl trope of ptsd. She’s going to look over her shoulder for the rest of her life, just like Laurie, just like Sally!
Chris is cooked. My guy taunted Jason AND Johnny as "Mama's boy" They're not gonna take that lightly. Start praying Chris 🙏 Edit: Watch, his next vid, Johnny and Jason will be a guest appearance. Chris will pay.
I just saw this today and I'm mixed on this as well. I liked how from Johnny's perspective the nature surroundings and sounds were eerily relaxing. While the sounds from the victims perspective were haunting and unsettling, especially in the third act.
A ambitious movie it was a imersive experience for the most part but as a slasher fan this movie bored me all the walking without the kills I wouldn't of made it through I liked it props to the director for what he accomplished with the budget he had this movie would of way better with a bigger budget an could of had the killer so more than walking 7/10 creative, imersive, dull, yoga
I think the campire was still from his POV as i imagined the camera "circling" the fire, was supposed to be Johnny walking round the fire. Thats why when it ends, we have him directly behind them
I saw this last night! Yes lots of walking in the woods, that didn’t bother me, maybe they could have done more with it. Yes, the dialogue is an all time bad and so are the actors. Some of the props looked bad. Yes, that yoga scene is legendary! I would like to see a sequel, definitely with a better budget. I also enjoy the cinematography.
i thought the concept of a slasher that follows the killer was great and they executed it well, had to drive about an hour to see the movie but it was definitely worth it! i was very impressed with the scenic camera shots, the sound design and the practical effects. the kills were very well executed and very gory! My theater wasn't very full but everyone enjoyed it hell there were some people laughing at a few scenes XD My only complaint with the movie was the reveal of johnny's face, felt too early and they should've waited till the end.
When I saw that POV scene in Halloween 2018, I found myself hoping that we were going to get a lot more of that. I was disappointed when they didn't give us that. In a Violent Nature did what a lot of slasher movies won't, it gave us what we wanted, except for a sequel but, man, I'll definitely be in the theater again to see that
The audience I watched it with was very into it, laughed constantly and the yoga scene got a one minute applause while erupting into utter disbelief at what they were seeing. Liked it more the second time I watched it
I'm mixed on the movie. It's brutal and methodical with its technical execution and some of its shots are actually beautiful (like the shot of Johnny walking through an overgrown field at "golden hour"), but some scenes go on way too long (there's a one-sided conversation inside a car that goes on FOREVER) and the ending just kinda lands with a thud, leaving you wanting something more substantial. There's a jump cut where a character is running from Johnny, and then it cuts to hours later and the character has inexplicably sustained a really gnarly injury. How did that happen? We never find out. The camera doesn't leave them, but it still chooses to jump cut over it anyway. And that follows an extremely long earlier scene where we are shown a victim getting slowly and gratuitously dismembered for several minutes. The decisions regarding what to show and not show feels confusing at times. I also feel like the inclusion of a subtle musical score would've helped give the movie a sense of foreboding and dread, and it would've made the movie feel a little less tedious. I'm not talking about screeching slasher movie violins, but a low ambient score that fades in and out at the right moments would've done wonders to the tone of the movie.
I thought the ending story the woman told about the bear was to show that an animal can do things because of its violent nature. Johnny is a violent animal, but he had reason (in his own mind) to do these things. The victims stole the one thing he cared about, and so he responded violently. The ranger was also a violent person, like threatening to kill the guy for placing traps, and when he tells the two remaining kids that giving the locket back won’t get him to go away just shows how the ranger really wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps and kill/defeat Johnny. His violent nature led to his super awesome kill and ultimately led to the final girl watching her boyfriend get violently chopped up. She lets go of the violence and gives his locket back, and that’s when he disappears, no longer wanting or needing to be violent. Just my take on that ending and what was going on in the movie, and yea I did find it boring but the thought of Johnny popping out at the end had me on the edge of my seat.
I can’t wait to eventually watch this movie just the pov setting of the slasher as a concept it’s not just a refreshing idea but a idea that gets me hype. Also sadly this is probably the closest thing we getting to a Friday the 13th movie in a while so here’s hoping the lawsuit is over because I don’t mind the Jason universe we just missing a movie.
Much appreciated POV once again bro. Compared to a few experimental concept flicks not too long ago this is a masterpiece lol. Totally got what they went for and can see their inspirations in the final product. Wouldn't mind a sequel but not sequel-itis 🤘🏼👀The Strangers needed to follow this concept, A DAY IN THE LIFE kinda thing would've made that one fresh
I loved this movie and recently described it to my friends as 'Bring your ki to work day for a killer'. Even the scene with the log chopper that spans 3-5 minutes.
I didn’t dislike it as much as some of the people in my theater. I loved the kills but the slow follow crunchie crunches were loooooong. I did like the last few minutes before the confirmation with the gas tank anxiously wondering if and when Johnny will make a final appearance
To be honest I liked this movie a lot. Going into it, I already assumed the movie was going to be exactly what it presented, though it was corny at times. Was it boring? To some, sure. That felt like the entire point for this movie. A lot of people hoped for more tension in this movie but we are watching from the killer’s (Johnny) perspective, what tension *really* exists for him? Or any killer for that matter? What else could he be doing? I considered so many aspects from movies this one takes reference from because they’d be doing the exact same thing. The final girl and other supporting characters were typical and added little depth much like many other characters in Friday the 13th , the kills were sick (people even laughed in my theatre), but it was a fun watch. I like how they didn't focus on whether he would do anything (cutting phone lines, popping tires, etc.) and stuck with him just catching up to them and simply *searching for a necklace.* Also, I love that it ended with the unknown for him because we think he's going to reappear but..he doesn’t. The story definitely needed work but with the budget they had, I thought it was a great experimental film and felt like it was making fun of the tropes we’re used to.
It was a very unique experience and the first time iv seen a movie like this. The idea that when we come across the "campers" in the woods and we hear snippets of very cliche horror movie lines, very good inside joke for viewers who are fans of 80s slashers. The kills were.... creative to say the least. They felt a litte grotuitous at times and a little poitnless but certainly practically impressive. I came out enjoying it more than i didnt. 6/10 maybe 7/10
🚨 SPOILER ALERT 🚨 There’s a lot to dissect and it really is a brilliant movie. For one, the movie seems to not only pay homage to Friday the 13th, but is literally the proverbial curtain being lifted for the viewer to see what’s going on behind the scenes; I think everything here is so connected to Friday the 13th that in order to appreciate this stand alone film you need to watch and appreciate the formers. You quite literally see how he operates: how he walks, how he sneaks up behind people, how everyone around him thinks he’s this brain dead zombie, but is very cunning. And I believe he also has some sort of super sonic hearing, and I’m shocked not a lot of people picked up on how deliberate this seems to be placed in the final killing (they are whispering their plan, we are seeing things through his perspective, and then he immediately is 1 step ahead) what made it concrete for me is when he could hear them talking across the lake: at first I thought “that’s a strange way to do dialogue, kinda a lazy way to get around acting by not doing close up shots, they did it earlier with the campfire scene, why aren’t they doing it for the dialogue now?” Then after the movie it hit me: we are hearing what he hears when the camera is behind him; how would he have known to go from the lake to the cliff to murder that girl? Then there is the end. Was it all in her head? There’s a lot more but I’m too lazy to write more 😅 but all together I gave it a 4.5/10 after credits and from the walk to the car and drive home I settled at a 6/10. I’d even argue it’s a 7.5 now that I’ve digested it more. That’s another unique quality of the movie, I’ve never felt or had a plot grow so much in my head after the credits rolled. But I do have a soft spot for horror so 😅🤷🏻♂️
**SPOILER ALERT** Idk, i was really excited for this one as one of my favorite horror franchises is Friday the 13th, but i feel like this movie is getting a little too hyped up. The trailers showcased the "audience reactions" of people squirming in their seats and what not and there was only 1 kill in the entire movie that warranted that reaction. The main chunk of the movie is just a guy walking with no soundtrack playing and casually stalking people/setting up the killing spree that doesnt really include anything special. I do admit, they did a good job of fleshing out the main slasher and giving him a backstory through small dialogue but it just didnt pay off in anyway shape or form. The biggest thing for me was that the acting was so phoned in by everyone in the movie, it just really takes you out of it. Not to mention there were multiple shots where you could clearly see that they were using a mannequin and not an actor/special fx to get a really insane shot. The whole thing felt it was made on a $100 dollar and thats a shame knowing that Shudder just had something like Late Night With The Devil come out and then followed it up with this.
It was different. Neat to see from killer's perspective. At the same time, it wasn't scary. Yoga kill was a little disappointing for ME. Mainly because of the way it played out and the expression on the persons face. A few kills it was just like the actor was just waiting for the kill process to happen. Mainly the yoga and rock smash.
I enjoyed this 100% because of Behind the Mask! I was completely on board. The fact that they decided to keep it more in a serious tone could definitely make people try to dissect it, too much. There were definitely choices that could have enhanced the experience and kept my interest a bit more. Overall, I was entertained and hope to get a move polished version of something like this in the future. Thanks for another great review, Chris! #GeeSawThat 🤘🏿😁👍🏿
The only reason I wanted my money back for this one was because I found the most entertaining part to be the sound design (apart from the monotonous footsteps), but there was a group of six people talking straight through my showing. I almost walked out. Great movie though!
did anyone else find it odd that some of the kills the victim just stood there waiting for him to carve them up? the girl on the cliff, the last scene with the guy yelling at him by the tree? wtf. lol
hold up Chris im so sorry lol, ill watch the video but before i unpause i have a question, i was watching the live and u said u got another movie to talk Abt after the venom 3 trailer, i got a feeling that movie is sonic the hedgehog 3, yes or no?(if u wanna keep it a Suprise thats fine
Chris honestly it was one of the best horror movies I had actually seen in a long time. I gave it to thumbs up no matter what anybody says. If you would not like it they do not understand what it takes to see a really good horror movie. Also what's going on with the new Lost Boys I haven't heard no updates at all can you help me out thank you. Your biggest fan PETEY BOY.
Saw this movie yesterday. Was pretty impressed by it. It's not too often we get a horror movie that focuses mainly on the perspective of the killer. Most horror films center themselves on a final girl or a couple of individuals but this film took a different approach that I think a lot of slasher fans really appreciate. Also the use of sound, the camera positioning/movements and the lack of a score give an ominous realness that gave me shivers. Sure, at the end of the day, it's mainly just kids getting killed in the woods but it's a fresh take on kids getting killed in the woods.
I really like the movie being a horror fan. This one and late night with the devil were both good attempts to be different. However, this movie felt like a video game a big chunk of the time.
I just watch this movie, and yes the yoga kill is awesome. Like you said it basically Friday the 13th done through the eyes of the killer. He was really brutal chopping away after the person died. Question is who would win Jason or Johnny?
I really enjoyed how unique it was. Very slow but didnt bore me at all. Need more creative horror movies like this. Just pushes the genre forward in my opinion
Although having it be a really slow paced movie is something i expected so it didnt bother me that much. I see no reason why they had to drag on the scenes with the humans who arent likable. My breaking point was in the car scene where the survivor is being told a story of someone being killed for 5 minutes and i straight up asked for a refund
Him pulling her head through her own gaping stomach is probably the greatest kill I've ever seen in a slasher film
I fell asleep twice. I was so bored. No likable characters.
Why? As the stranger in the truck says, “Some animals kill for no particular reason.”
I could be completely missing the point, but that is my interpretation.
Curious to read your thoughts and criticisms of my take.
Jason and Michael Meyers walked so Johnny could walk and crunch on grass 🤣🤣
Well at least he touch grass. 😃
😂😂😂🤦🏽♂️
Kinda sad that the biggest Friday the 13th film we’ve gotten in 10 years or so is a movie that can’t even call itself that, even despite it most likely being based on a unused script for a Friday the 13th film with how much it gives off that vibe.
Obviously based on an unused F13 script? Where'd you get that from? It was filmed 20 minutes from me, I'm a huge fan. Never heard that before.
Call it homage. Call it ripped off. These scenes are straight from Friday movies that actually happened.
More like inspired by Friday the 13th. Wouldn’t say it’s based on an unused script?
It's not like a Friday the 13th script is gonna be complex.....
Because Jason and those older movie villains are GARBAGE!

@GothicCottage:👀😍

I like your opinion on this one. I felt the same way. At times it felt like I was watching a turtle race.
Plus I would say it brought me suspense scared who Johnny is gonna kill next near the end! And I don’t mind we get more sequels!
I love how original and creative it is
As a person who prefers his slashers to be dark and gritty like F13 Final Chapter and the Prowler, I liked that about the movie.
You talking about the yoga kill?
I’m surprised to see the divide bc my audience was intrigued to see what Johnny is gonna do next like I know the lack of music and scenery is limited but that’s what makes this stand out to show the tension between what it’s like when the killer is the main focus rather than have filler storylines with our teen characters who are there to die
Yeah, I feel like most people in the theater I was at were into it, even if it wasn't necessarily loving it.

i didn’t like the film, but i appreciate that someone made it. to me its a failed experiment.
it mainly lacked tension, when we followed Johnny there was no tension because we knew what was going to happen. but the couple times we shifted perspectives, there was immediate tension.
Brother thank you for having a RUclips Channel. 🇲🇽

I think that the movie was good, honestly wanted more from the overall ending and movie.
The ending had me fucked up tho. I was nervous until the very end
@@anthonycastillo8055 yeah
“In a boring nature”
That ending tho…. Nothing but a whole lot of yapping.

The kills were cool, especially the Yoga scene. But I feel like the lumber splitting machine went on too long.
It provided the perspective of a killer, such as Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers.
very true
I loved it. The loud sound of amplified walking thematizes the scares in quite a frightening way. That was the actual purpose of it: to increase the fright by thematizing stalking phenomena via sound.
just watch this last night as well and i appreciate ya for reviewing this chris! no one else i watch has talked about this
While I believe Friday the 13th works best in the 80s, this movie proves it could still work in modern times. This movie was deffo made for us Friday fans!
I think a sequel will be a wonderful upgrade of what this was. Fingers crossed we get more!
You crack me up Chris!!! definitely agree with all of the walking, they could have cut at least half of the walking in the movie. lmao
This movie could’ve been an easy 9/10 or even 10/10, but needed to be reworked and re-cut. 4/10.
7.5 don't get me wrong they did something different it was cool to see killer's point of view but the pacing was too slow then the ending was medicore.
I noticed the softer looking moments. I may be wrong but I think they changed the aperture within the lens to change the depth of field for different shots.
“It was perfect, everything down to the last minute detail!”
You're kidding right?
Went and saw it last night.
It was more Hatchet than Friday the 13th, but Holy cow! I don't have the attention span of a middle schooler. I loved this movie so much 🤩 I dug the follow the killer but I hope we get a part two where it's part POV and regular movie. Man I hope they make more soon. I really liked this movie. Kills were brutal.
I always respect film makers who do something different, even if it doesn't work. But I actually really like this movie.
I definitely get why some didn’t like it, but I dug the slow burn style punctuated by some genuinely gnarly and creative kills.
Are we ever getting a trick R trick 2?
i thought the concept of a slasher that follows the killer was great and they executed it well, had to drive about an hour to see the movie but it was definitely worth it! i was very impressed with the scenic camera shots, the sound design and the practical effects. the kills were very well executed and very gory! My theater wasn't very full but everyone enjoyed it hell there were some people laughing at a few scenes XD
My only complaint with the movie was the reveal of johnny's face, felt too early and they should've waited till the end.
Great video . Just curious but have you seen the new slasher /horror movie founders day
I was curious about that 1, is it any good?
Good point on the violence only bets more violence trope they played on.
Ending was the worst part 100% and the scenes without Johnny were a lot less interesting. They should’ve had Johnny watching them at the campfire.
Movie isn’t in my cinema and idk if it will even release here but I hope it does
It was a very unique experience and the first time iv seen a movie like this.

There’s a lot to dissect and it really is a brilliant movie.
But I do have a soft spot for horror so 😅🤷🏻♂️
In A Violent Nature feels just like Friday The 13th!
You gonna review the F13 movies anytime soon?
Anybody know why Chris doesn't film in the same room?

**SPOILER ALERT**
Idk, i was really excited for this one as one of my favorite horror franchises is Friday the 13th, but i feel like this movie is getting a little too hyped up.
What happened to Chris’s old background?
Is this releasing in Uk cinemas like Vue , cineworld , Savoy
The only reason I wanted my money back for this one was because I found the most entertaining part to be the sound design (apart from the monotonous footsteps), but there was a group of six people talking straight through my showing. I almost walked out. Great movie though!
did anyone else find it odd that some of the kills the victim just stood there waiting for him to carve them up? the girl on the cliff, the last scene with the guy yelling at him by the tree? wtf. lol
hold up Chris im so sorry lol, ill watch the video but before i unpause i have a question, i was watching the live and u said u got another movie to talk Abt after the venom 3 trailer, i got a feeling that movie is sonic the hedgehog 3, yes or no?(if u wanna keep it a Suprise thats fine
yess we need to knowww
The spinning in the circle was done in Quentin Tarantino's movie Deathproof at the diner. It was a great homage to that movie.
