Technically it came from a console game as it was created as a PlayStation exclusive, not a computer game; it was made into a computer game later. Calling a PS Exclusive creation a computer game summons the /r/pcmasterrace believers.
What I realized is that a lot of the changes, especially in Joel’s abilities, are really just taking out the video game stats and rules, out of necessity and “realism”. There was really no realistic way to have Joel do everything he did in the game with all those injuries. Basically the stakes are different for games and movies. In the game you can fail regardless of the superhuman capabilities of your character. In order to feel the stakes in a show, especially when you know the outcome, you can’t have Joel insta-heal from a Bandaid and stick of gum. Tricky to pull off and this show did it very well. I think it’s why video games are so traditionally hard to translate successfully.

I’ve watched The Last of Us several times from start to finish and I never put together how Joel and Sarah never got sick because of the Atkins dirt and Sarah not eating the cookies because of raisins. Y’all had me hooked from the start. Excited to watch more from you

James (David's right hand man in episode 8) is played by Troy Baker, the voice actor for Joel in the game. The actress that play Marlene is Merle Dandridge....she also plays Marlene in the game lol. In episode 5, Kathleens right hand man "Perry" is played by Jeffrey Pierce who is the voice actor for Tommy in the game. I'm glad they brought in the voice actors to play a role in the show
Craig Mazin is a BRILLIANT showrunner and writer. He did Chernobyl, and this is his follow-up series. Him teaming up with Neil Druckmann makes a powerful duo. 👏
Fun fact: this was filmed in my province. Alberta. I applied to be an extra not knowing it was for this. I never got a call back lol. But in the 9th episode, the cast is in a hospital. At the time of filming, the hospital (equipment, docs, etc) were being moved to the new hospital (which took 10+ years to build. Don’t even get me started). They filmed on the paediatric floor. I’ve visited my niece there when she was a toddler and was sick. Since the hospital wasn’t technically in use anymore, they filmed there. It’s now an ambulatory centre. My gasto specialist is there still.
Pedro is from Chile, with a stopover in Denmark. He spent some of his childhood in Texas, ending at 11. It is *one of* his real accents. He is code-switching.
In the episode where they are in Kansas City, there was behind the scenes as to making that episode. The reason why they had to change locations was because the filming locations in Canada didn’t have bridges, and Pittsburgh is surrounded by bridges. I’m actually from Pittsburgh, so that chapter hit more closer to home since I knew the locations in the game where they were at.
Absolutely loved the marathon watch along to this stunning series and really looking forward to the next series although really dreading what we will see as well.

Regarding Kathleen, i think the substory is that her brother, while being the leader of the resistance was too nice of a guy to actually get anything done. Diplomacy is not very efficient from the oppressed side. Then, when he got killed, Kathleen raged, and she, being way less nice, was actually willing to go to the extremes needed to trigger the revolt that actually happened. So for the others, she was the one who actually got Fedra overthrown, by using the organization already in place after her brother, being willing to be ruthless about the methods.
I was so surprised by this show. Almost every video game adaptation to live action has bombed and been absolutely awful, but this one is really good. Not only is the casting perfect, but it actually stays pretty faithful to the source and only changes things that need changing to make the show that much better. They knocked it out of the park with this one, can’t wait to see what they do for the next season, though I’m wondering if they’re going to start it off with some golfing or not..
There was this flashback in the first two episodes. I would have been very happy if this had also been included in the other episodes. The flashbacks gave the series (or game) more depth and insight into the world of LoU.
Responding just after the first episode, ~35 min in... Would've been nice to get this season episode by episode but I get how taxing that is. Regardless, entire season is an 11/10, faithful adaptation that added depth where it suited the narrative and brilliant performances from literally everyone involved (even if you didn't like their character). Took little to nothing away from the games other than the combat (as Mazin & Druckmann said - it's a difference in mediums). Druckman responded in an interview about the omission of the spores and the main reason was they felt the internet would rip apart the logic of it, particularly from those who weren't familiar with the game. He felt in retrospect, while it was a cool gameplay mechanic, he regretted putting it in the game as well since logically the probability of survival would've been reduced to near zero once it was out in the atmosphere.
I felt it implied Kathleen was the one who actually made the rebellion successful. They overthrew Fedra under Catherine, when before, her brother was just leading the rebellion, but they haven't overthrown. Edit: The second in command soldier even said that they accomplished more under her.

I think both Joel and Marlene were wrong on handling this situation, Joel of course being selfish in having a second chance at being a dad with Ellie, and Marlene being overzealous if not obsessed with finding a cure to the point where she's rushing Ellie directly to surgery with zero logic, they're about to kill the only known source of a probable cure for all of humanity where the results have no guarantees, but let's be honest here, there was never a choice for Ellie, if she had said "no" to the surgery, there's no way in hell she was leaving that facility without the Firefly's attempting to stop them and proceed as planned. This is all taking place in a dirty, dusty, decrepit hospital being held together by baling wire and duct tape, probably has power issues, so if they needed to keep samples in a clean temperature-controlled environment, um yeah, good luck with that, and who exactly is this doctor performing the surgery, I highly doubt he's a neurologist, he could be a podiatrist for all we know, then they'd also have to be worried about raiders, enslavers, and any other rotten humans that are left. That all said, Joel did the right thing for the wrong reason, I have a feeling when they get to Jackson, Tommy would've definitely told his wife by now about Ellie, and the drama will start from there, and for the record, Tommy is a total pos for not sending one damn message to Joel letting him now that he's safe and will contact him at a later date. 🤔
Cathleen seemed weak initially, after a couple rewatches is good but pointless, Sam and Henry was just as impactful as the game, the guy with Cathleen was Jeffrey Pierce, who was Tommy in the game

they did such a great job of keeping it damn close to the storyline in the game and many of the same scene's and locations aswell as adding backstories that Explain things that didnt get explained in the game and removing certain aspects such as having to wear resperators for the spore clouds which would not have worked for tv show having actors trying to speak while wearing masks...

This was recorded when the show came out. So some of our viewers were watching the show without playing the game for the first time. As in they didn't know what would happen next week on the show if they hadn't played the game.
They said there will be a lot more infected in Season 2, that was huge complaint from a lot ppl, still very good, but every show has some cons and that was one of them for this, was the lack of infected.
Because not everyone caught our reaction the first time around and a lot of people enjoy these marathon formats to rewatch. It allows someone to throw on a video and veg out for 4+ hours without worrying about clicking the next Episode. We were surprised how well these videos did when we launched our TV Exclusive channel a little over a year ago.

That actually cast the woman who played Ellie in the game (voice & motion capture) as Ellie’s “mom” as a wink and nod that she gave “birth” to the character we know now as Ellie. But yes, that is the exact woman who voiced and motion captured Ellie in both video games. The same as in the previous episode, the man Ellie kills with the cleaver is the voice of Joel in both video games as well.
For Christ’s sake, yes, the woman playing Ellie’s mom is the voice actress for Ellie in the game, just like the James character Ellie killed with the meat cleaver, is the voice actors for Joel in the game. I think both Joel and Marlene were wrong on handling this situation, Joel of course being selfish in having a second chance at being a dad with Ellie, and Marlene being overzealous if not obsessed with finding a cure to the point where she's rushing Ellie directly to surgery with zero logic, they're about to kill the only known source of a probable cure for all of humanity where the results have no guarantees, but let's be honest here, there was never a choice for Ellie, if she had said "no" to the surgery, there's no way in hell she was leaving that facility without the Firefly's attempting to stop them and proceed as planned. This is all taking place in a dirty, dusty, decrepit hospital being held together by baling wire and duct tape, probably has power issues, so if they needed to keep samples in a clean temperature-controlled environment, um yeah, good luck with that, and who exactly is this doctor performing the surgery, I highly doubt he's a neurologist, he could be a podiatrist for all we know, then they'd also have to be worried about raiders, enslavers, and any other rotten humans that are left. That all said, Joel did the right thing for the wrong reason, I have a feeling when they get to Jackson, Tommy would've definitely told his wife by now about Ellie, and the drama will start from there, and for the record, Tommy is a total pos for not sending one damn message to Joel letting him now that he's safe and will contact him at a later date. 🤔

Cathleen seemed weak initially, after a couple rewatches is good but pointless, Sam and Henry was just as impactful as the game, the guy with Cathleen was Jeffrey Pierce, who was Tommy in the game

they did such a great job of keeping it damn close to the storyline in the game and many of the same scene's and locations aswell as adding backstories that Explain things that didnt get explained in the game and removing certain aspects such as having to wear resperators for the spore clouds which would not have worked for tv show having actors trying to speak while wearing masks...

Because not everyone caught our reaction the first time around and a lot of people enjoy these marathon formats to rewatch. It allows someone to throw on a video and veg out for 4+ hours without worrying about clicking the next Episode. We were surprised how well these videos did when we launched our TV Exclusive channel a little over a year ago.
@@YouMeTheTV Yes, I most definitely prefer either marathon videos or at least 2 to 3 episodes per upload, if a series has already been premiered or out for a while, I probably would not watch a channel that only uploads 1 episode per upload/week ect, the marathons are great.

I am not happy, first they race swapped Sara, the casting is wrong, the death of Tess was wrong, why have an episode of Bill and Frank, who is a mention in the game. Just to tick off diversity.

@@MrSwedster it's better for TV because it provides more story and background that concentrates on the human condition rather than adapting game elements like going through your backpack every few minutes, collecting bricks and bullets, walking stealth for several minutes to avoid raiders and clickers, recreating checking your map every few mins, etc. This is a TV show, not a game. Story is king.
That actually cast the woman who played Ellie in the game (voice & motion capture) as Ellie’s “mom” as a wink and nod that she gave “birth” to the character we know now as Ellie. But yes, that is the exact woman who voiced and motion captured Ellie in both video games. The same as in the previous episode, the man Ellie kills with the cleaver is the voice of Joel in both video games as well.
And we got the actual Marlene in the show.
Funny is that people say enough too kill a horse when horses can take less drugs the humans 😅
For Christ’s sake, yes, the woman playing Ellie’s mom is the voice actress for Ellie in the game, just like the James character Ellie killed with the meat cleaver, is the voice actors for Joel in the game. How or why you thought Ellie’s mom was played by the same actress as current Ellie is absolutely mind numbing.
