- (2 May 1994) A jubilant Nelson Mandela claimed victory for his African National
Congress in South Africa's historic all-race elections on Monday
(2/5) and urged the country to rally around the new government of
national unity.
Two hours earlier, F.W. de Klerk, Africa's last white president, conceded victory to Mandela at the Pretoria headquarters of his National Party, which created and abolished apartheid over 40 turbulent years.

The minimum wage in South Africa is 89p an hour! That is less than what you would earn in Morocco, Algeria or Libya!
The cost of living is also lower in South Africa. I’m not justifying income inequality, just pointing out the reason.
