The Arditi were an Italian unit during WW1&2. They were absolute savages, running headfirst into trenches armed only with knives and hand grenades. Yes, many were lost, but thier reputation was feared among Men.

A common misconception. Arditi were originally an Engineer division, it is not known who decided their strategy, but Colonel Bassi is the one credited for their formation in 1917. The reason the Engineers developed such a tactics of approaching a trench so lightly armed while under suppressing fire from their own artillery, as a mean to establish an FOB near the enemy trench, which would allow them to easily target enemy Machine guns. This tactic was later fully implemented by the Italian High Command as a proper Doctrine in order to invade enemy trenches. And the reason their casualty numbers were so high is because they often only came out with about 160-300 men, led by 6 officers. So when it says they took 45-50% casualties on average, it means about 60-80 men died, and around 100 are wounded. The Arditi were some of the finest soldiers in the 1st world war since they found that secret ingredient to entrenched combat. I talked to an ex-Navy Seals officer about the Arditi and he told me "I have read about them, and I wouldn't mess with them, at least not in their day and age, the utter brutality of Trench Warfare was just mind-blowing on it's scale, so it's impressive these guys could traverse No Man's Land so easily."
Italians are always getting a bad rep for WW2, always joked about how they switched sides so many times. People tend to forget, the Italian soldiers, what they lacked in tactics, Command, and equipment, they surely made up for with heart, bravery, and a slight cunning.

People talking about fash in here and so on. Arditi - the band, is based on the Italian futurist movement of the early 20s, which indeed has influenced/being welcomed by later fascia groups. You should read their manifesto though, it is about embracing the new, the fast, roaring automobile and airplane. Taking this new industrial world head on, full-force, sentimentalism - a thing of the past. It is about assertiveness, grit and courage.
