I love the way your dad talks to all the animals when he feeds them and he makes sure each animal has their share and he doesn't get the food in their face...Also my grandpa had a farm and You Never name an animal if it's going to be butchered for meat...If you name it it's a pet and you dont eat your pets

Smokey is a natural herder. Her instinct is to herd Red, almost in a protective way, to where she believes she belongs. If her intentions were to rid her, I don’t think Red would be here.
Smokey is an awesome pup! She I believe was harassing Red to go back to her pen. It's what she knows, it's what she'll do. She's a fine animal! Adler on the other hand, is sorely missed everytime you go solo... lol
When you do free-range don't be surprised to find eggs in odd places but it is worth it. My family did that when I was young and we'd find them under parked cars, by the rose bushes, and even in the horse feeder, it's like having an Easter-egg hunt on a daily basis. Jamie and Lester find them hidden in/on the stacked hay rounds...brave souls for climbing up on them [couldn't do it at my age now]. Shrimp is getting healthier every day thanks to you and Grandpa Ralph, continued blessings.

Hi, You have done your homework and make good decisions. I have a relative who has chickens. She lets them free range all day. It has been working out great for a few years now. When I've "babysat" the chickens, it's wonderful. Let them out in morning, close the door at night. I love the way they come running when I scatter veggie/fruit peelings etc. They love being petted. I hum and cluck to them and it seems they like that...lol. I think the automatic door is amazing. Hoping you and the boys have a super day. Tysm for posting and letting folks share your experience.
I haven't trusted my younger Great Pyrs with the chicken but I have a rescue who was 1.5 yrs. when I got him. He was amazing for the first month but then he decided to play with them. I moved him to an area with fewer chickens, some cats and some ducks and he quit being a pain. It has been more than six months and he now is with all the birds and some chicks and ducklings and Bourbon Red turkeys. He doesn't molest anyone. He will shoo them from his food but not hurt them. I love this dog. He is one of 7 Pyrs.
That was a good picture of you & Smokey. It would be nice to hang it up. I lost one of my girls to heart failure several weeks ago. I'm so glad I took pics & videos of her. She was such a sweet baby girl. I miss her terribly even though I still have 2 other cats to love on. They all have such distinct personalities.
Just a thought...I think Red is missing Adler petting her. She shooed the chickens away from Adler to protect him. I think she is missing him and why she is acting more aggressive. I am missing Adler and I am getting grumpy. 😊

As long as the chickens know their home coop they will return to it. The only trouble I have is when one of the chickens get through the fence onto the neighbor's property and can't get back. I think Red is territorial more so than the others. We have a Hereford cow that is about five feet at her withers and probably weighs around a ton. Her half brother was our herd bull and in his prime weighed 2400#. I am 5'5" and have a hard time brushing her back. She also doesn't fit into our cattle chute. Most of our cows and bulls were show cattle, so they are quite tame.
Lester or really Jami might want a turkey for Cornholio, he’s got no luck with the ladies 😂🙈 I think Red might be the perfect match for him. Now if you go visit them you should really have a look at Copper, Jakes rescue. As for Smokey and Red.. I think all it is, is that Smokey knows that Red is supposed to be inside the pen and is trying to help you, Red is also bigger than the chickens so Smokey might see her like someone to play with. Anyway that’s my 2 cents ❤️
Lester's Dad, Hanging With PawPaw, has a tape measure that tells the weight of cattle by wrapping the tape all around the cow just behind the shoulders. But his cows will stand & let him pet them. Good luck trying to use that tape on your Beefy Boys :)
Smokey is such a pretty dog I'd say she goes after the red turkey because the red turkey stands up to her I have a dog that does the same thing only with one hen but like Smokey she would never hurt one letting chickens roam in a huge area usually the hens lay the eggs all over the place I have 200 I made their area smaller to roam in too many eggs to hunt

I have a German Shepherd that does the same as Smokey! Herding is in their Gene's! The puppy in my dog made him a little too pushy and he squished a couple of the chickens into the coop fence! Now that he is 4yrs and I have no problems with them free ranging. I have an Automatic door as well!! God Bless and have a Wonderful Week!! 😀⚘❤
Not sure if anyone has said this, you may already know as well. I watched the video of catching the roosters. If you're going to catch and move chickens or roosters as you mentioned moving your layers, go in just before dark and they are sleeping and ready to be picked up and moved. They start to wake up slowly so they don't startle.

Find a day old bread store n buy bread for shrimp n beefy boys. My aunt would hand feed some of the bread then throw rest on ground. They love bread.
