Wow - Thank you. I have not seen this one, and apparently, it's 5 years old. What an absolute blessing to be able to sing the song with the author, who can SING with a beautiful and silky voice!!! And Voctave is amazing.

One of my favorite Christmas songs ever, but like you said, having the writer sing the song makes it so special! I've heard a lot of different versions, but he emphasizes the words differently and makes the meaning a little different. Still a great question! Mary, did you know everything that your baby boy would do? Just beautiful!

👉 Mark Alan Lowry (*1958 in London) is an American singer, comedian and songwriter. He is best known for singing the song 'Mary, Did You Know?' and he co-wrote the lyrics of this song in 1984. Years later, musician and songwriter Buddy Greene wrote the music for the song. In 2016 Lowry sang it himself, supported by the a cappella group Voctave.🌼🇩🇪

I just came across this reaction. First of all, normally when Mark sings this song it is done a 1/3 lower. I have listened to Mark for 30 years and have never heard him sing a G4, and especially hold it that long… incredible.

I don't listen to Voctave enough but every time I do I'm stunned. And Mark really knows his voice. The unwavering power in those long held notes pierced through everything else that was going on around it. Also the blonde soprano captivates me every time I hear her. Even as an atheist I can suspend my disbelief long enough to lose myself in the emotion of these performances. That's art as expression.

@@TeaTimeWithTravis Travis listen to that long note again, this tune into Kate Lott's high notes at the very end she starts on one very high note that you hear. Then during the crescendo she slides up to another note you can't hear until you hear the last chord as the voices drop away and you hear the echo of that chord. I can't tell exactly which note that is, but I will wager it is in the 6th octave somewhere. Everyone is enthralled by Mark's long note, and rightfully so, but Kate's work sometimes gets lost because she is a team player and would probably be embarrassed to be singled out. Her voice reminds me of my mother's voice. She was also a classically trained Soprano. So I tend to hear those notes because I know how hard they are to sing well.

"Mary, Did You Know?" is a Christmas song addressing Mary, mother of Jesus, with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984, and originally Mark used the lyrics on Christmas cards. Later on he requested of several friends if someone could put music to his lyrics. The music was written by Buddy Greene in 1991. It was originally recorded by Christian recording artist Michael English on his self-titled debut solo album in 1991. At the time, English and Lowry were members of the Gaither Vocal Band, and Greene was touring with them. The song reached Number 6 on CCM Magazine's Adult Contemporary Chart. Lowry would record the song several times himself, most notably with the Gaither Vocal Band on their 1998 Christmas album, Still the Greatest Story Ever Told. Lowry also recoded it with 'Voctave' while sitting due to being stricken with MS. This was an incredible feat in itself and well worth viewiǹg, and reacting to! 👌
    Loved your reaction!
