Everyone keeps bringing up the literal definition of the word stigmata, but nobody seems to be connecting the word to the lyrics about crucifixion. In Christianity, "stigmata" refers to the wounds Jesus suffered from crucifixion showing up on another. Not sure if he's trying to claim the singer is a saint or what else, but he's not just singing about some spots...
It does refer to the wounds that jesus suffered, although stigmata is when it appears on someone else, such as saint francis, without warning, but it doesnt hurt, its just there
pretty sure the song is about not being able to silence the truth with violence, i don't think it's directly about christianity or anything like that. it'd fit with the rest of his songs too.

On the sidenote I am kinda suprised that so many people just find out what stigmats were. It is pretty common religious knowledge, as most religions taking its roots from judaism do have a stories about people that got them.
