Missiles don’t even have to hit their target to damage it tho, they usually expose above or around the aircraft. If it directly hits you, you’re probably not ejecting.

Once it is fired you are screwed, there is enough fuel in it that even if you somehow miss it can turn around and try again. The game doesn't let it do this though, cannot allow anyone to show up the Russians after all! Their's does not have enough fuel to truly turn around and try again.

This is why when fighting with missiles in a modern dogfight, you *have* to go into the 1 circle (turn into them, the same direction as them) so that you jam the WEZ (Weapon Employment Zone, missiles have a minimum range they can effectively hit the target) If you go into a 2 circle fight with modern A2A missiles, there is a 100% chance both of you are able to get a good lock and fire a missile, and then a 99.9% chance neither of you will be able to do anything to dodge or flare the opposing missile because of the angle of the approaching missile… this is pretty basic dogfighting knowledge.
The Sidewinder got a below 20km range, the air-2-air missiles the SU 27 uses either up to 40km or even up to 140km (and those are not even the most high range Russian anti air missiles). It overall wouldn't go in there, nor would an SU 27 operate in an area not covered by dozens of anti air systems on the ground. Sidewinder got way to low range for modern warfare.

These fights never make sense to me, we have over the horizon attack capability’s but we will somehow still end up in a dogfight situation with non stealthed jets
This video aside, there are many ways you could find yourself in the merge in a modern jet that's why dogfighting tactics are still taught, missiles can be defeated like anything else and with modern SAMs keeping you low you be surprised on how common it can be with peer to peer adversaries. At close range Russian pilots really will give USA pilots a hard time because they prefer combat maneuverability a lot more above long rage strikes. Each have their own speciality.

If an F22 got into a dog fight well something has went horribly wrong for that to happen. Once again 2 very different fighter pilot philosophy. For example in the Russo-Ukranian war in earlier phase the there were significant Frogfoot and Alligator loses against NATO weaponry and as time went by the pilots adapted and now there are not that much significant losses. They have their own way of paving path. Both of the pilot of say Russia and American cadre have very different combat philosophy. And they have to develop means to counter that thus aggressor squadrons and trust me USA is not the only using that method of training. So yeah both have very different path of fighter pilot training. And we are not looking at factors such as technology, avionics, weapon system etc. but it all boils down to skills and understanding of the machine at the end of the day.

@@miriamweller812 being short range doesn't make it shit. Like the R-73 its meant to for close range engagements where using something like an AMRAAM or an R-77-1 wouldn't make sense. The aim 9x trades some range for better g overload compared to R-73. Both are great missiles. By the way all air to air missiles are expensive for example an AIM-120D costs over $1,000,000 from what I could gather an R-77-1 is similar in price to aim 9x but its hard to get concrete numbers

At close range Russian pilots really will give USA pilots a hard time because they prefer combat maneuverability a lot more above long rage strikes.

If an F22 got into a dog fight well something has went horribly wrong for that to happen.
Once again 2 very different fighter pilot philosophy. For example in the Russo-Ukranian war in earlier phase the there were significant Frogfoot and Alligator loses against NATO weaponry and as time went by the pilots adapted and now there are not that much significant losses. They have their own way of paving path.
Both of the pilot of say Russia and American cadre have very different combat philosophy. And they have to develop means to counter that thus aggressor squadrons and trust me USA is not the only using that method of training.
So yeah both have very different path of fighter pilot training. And we are not looking at factors such as technology, avionics, weapon system etc. but it all boils down to skills and understanding of the machine at the end of the day.

It's an absurdly expensive shit missiles costing close to half a million dollar for a firing range below 20km, that's insane.
@@miriamweller812 being short range doesn't make it shit. Like the R-73 its meant to for close range engagements where using something like an AMRAAM or an R-77-1 wouldn't make sense. The aim 9x trades some range for better g overload compared to R-73. Both are great missiles. By the way all air to air missiles are expensive for example an AIM-120D costs over $1,000,000 from what I could gather an R-77-1 is similar in price to aim 9x but its hard to get concrete numbers
