    I learned that a felt pocket wall works much nicer to achieve what look you were after, the trouble with moss covering bare areas can be easily overcome with clever plant choices and arrangement.

    • @Tropicalseductions
      @Tropicalseductions  3 года назад

      Yes and the plants exploded with growth covering areas.
      At the time when I built it I was actually the very first one to transform the ikea cabinet into a Terrarium for Plants so there wasn’t anyone I could have turned to for inspiration using felt pockets. But since I uploaded it there are so many people who rebuilt it and came up with awesome ideas from felt pockets to using all coir and such more that I will take inspo for the next terrarium that I am building.

      Thank you. Yes it was a process and being the first to make the ikea cabinet a terrarium i run into issues i had to solve alone. Now with so many others build in the past years and people that came up with great solutions the cabinets are getting better and better this one which I call the OG as it was the first ever is currently being revamped with a water feature to hold geckos. It will take a few more weeks and should be done soon.

    This looks so amazing, I love what you did! Thank you for sharing the whole process including the things that didn't go so well and how you adjusted; it's really inspiring! If you haven't already you might want to cover the edges where you drilled into the metal and passed the wire through to prevent the cord from being damaged and becoming an electrical hazard. I admire your perseverance to make that opening with that tool. Now that you've had it up for awhile, if you had to do it over again is there anything you'd do differently?

      @@Tropicalseductions I've fallen madly in love with your genius creation and want to try this myself for all my delicate plants. There is something called a bulkhead fitting used for pipes. It will give you a very nice clean and round hole to pass the wires through safely with no sharp edges. You might opt for a black plastic one which you can trim if it is too long. Just make sure the opening of the bulkhead fitting is big enough for the wires - they come in a variety of sizes. I hope this is helpful.

    This looks lovely, much nicer than the plastic tomato house I have in my bedroom, so I might have to look at replacing that with one of these units. As it would have automated watering I would put a strip of thick clear plastic behind one of the doors so water couldn't seep out, which is what I had to do with my Exo Terra terrarium. It's really useful to see what people have done that didn't work as well as what did, so thank you for showing that. I would say if it took you 20 minutes to drill through the thickness of that metal you might have been using the wrong kind of drill bit. (For comparison, I had to drill through both sides of a thick metal upright on a rotary clothes line and it only took me about 5 minutes to do both holes using a drill bit designed to drill through metal. Starting it off was the tricky bit, especially as it was vertical but a bit of sticky tape helped there.)

    • @Tropicalseductions
      @Tropicalseductions  4 года назад

      I am pretty sure I didn’t know what drill bit to use 😅. I don’t even own a drill I lend it from a friend. I didn’t expected it to take that long of course.

So the silicone wasnt coming out very easy, I was thinking it was that the tip of the tube, where the oooze comes out, if you were to cut that down a bit lower, mine came out thick as I just finished a 40gal conversion kit. Though I was watching mike tytula making a chameleon cage , he didnt use silicone and used drylock instead, he states drylock doesnt stink like silicone and looks nicer as it ages. Ty again!!!

      I even want something bigger now 😬😂. First I want to mention that most of the plants are Aroids which doesn’t need soil to grow. I added charcoal add the ground then coco coir but non of the roots or plants reaches that deep this is just for helping soaking moisture. The I added my first layer of orchid bark and coco coir mix on top of that I added the soil mixture
      Which is 40 charcoal, 40 orchid bark, 10 coco coir and 10 cactus mix. Super airy to prevent root rot.

      They are not planted just attached with paperclips 🖇 to the foam. These are mostly Aroids and they don’t need to be in soil. I wrapped some moss around the roots and pinned the plants to the background

    It’s beautiful! I love it. I’m curious how you control growth? I’m assuming these plants will love their home and grow like crazy but could overtake the case quickly. Thank you....I’m a newish plant mom here lol

      Yes I do have to cut back some fast growers. Which is a super plus. It leaves me with plants to trade and to sell.

    When using a silicon gun like this it works by applying pressure on the tube with the spring. Whhen you are ready using it you should release the pressure by pressing the metal clip at the back of the gun. This will release the spring pressure. If you do that you wont have the problems you had ;). But your terrarium looks really awesome great job!

    It’s really great work by you I like the video if only you added some more different colour plants it will enhance the look try adding bromeliads and air plants. Over all it’s good work done. I too make terrariums but I really wanna make as big as you made. Good job 👍🏻

    Hey Denise! Found your channel because of this amazing Milsbo Cabinet. I was lucky to get one 50% off and bought it before I studied terrarium grow lights.. a guide just told me that milsbo-height is „legendarily difficult“ to get the lighting correct.. but most terrariums I saw have a grow light under the top, while having issues with the plants that grow close to it.. or not having enough light an the ground.. that’s why your lights from the front caught my attention… are you still happy with your choice? Do all plants get sufficient light? Why did you just install them in the upper part? Should I longer ones that go further down?
    Would also love an update on yours (:
    Leafy love from Germany ^^
    Tim

      I did added light from above and the front that I attached on the sides of the doors. Light was not an issue at all. Keeping the wall humidit enough was the real issue. I had to mist every other day so adding a water feature is what I would change if I would redo it. I also had plants growing from the bottom but I had to change to plants that climb up so they can reach for the light.

      It’s dead Derek it had to go. The wood piece had actual slugs 🐌 in them that started to eat neighboring plants. I knew something was awful wrong with it 😂. Sorry but I really did forget the name maybe caused by all the drama it but me through

      It was drying out to fast! It was getting to time consuming misting the moss on the wall. The moss and the soil on the bottom didn’t had the issue.

    Jurassic park was set in the rain forest of an island in the Gulf of Mexico. So if it looked like Jurassic park then rain forest achieved.
