- Grading the crawl space with the Spectra laser receiver. Back for day two on the crawl space and I brought my Spectra laser receiver that goes on the boom to help grade out the bottom on the crawl space. This makes things so much easier without having to get out of the cab. I also cut the area out for the garage footings too. I brought them up a foot from the bottom of the crawl space. It looks great. I did agree with you that there was no need to dig out the garage. Leave the center in and thatscless fill need to go back in and less clean rock to have to be put in also. That looks like some good material to do the backfill when the time comes.

I've seen crawl spaces like this with a heavily insulated concrete floor, and insulated foundation walls used as a plenum for the Heating and AC of the structure above, no duct work required. I always thought it was very efficent.

There’s an alien VERY nice Brandon. The concrete crews will love ya for all the space and how well you stuck to grade. With that rocky , rocky “soil” (😮) you have there it’s gotta be really challenging!! I think leaving the centre of the garage untouched is fine, especially with the soil you have. It’s practically 4-6” gravel anyways.
The garages are often dug out here for an 8 foot footing and the middle They are dug out to at least 4 ft, maybe 5 ft and gravel packed in afterwards. We have a lot of soft clay beneath the soil and it can go really deep so the floor of the garage needs something. Frost can be a nightmare to deal with if you get it wrong!! If the garage will never be heated, I would have them dig out the full 8 ft. Big reason why nearly every home here has a full basement!! The perimeter has to be done and at least 1/2 the rest so why not get the inexpensive square footage. A lot of our homes are only 1200 - 1500 sq ft as a bungalow or bi-level, but are 5 bedrooms 3-4 bathrooms, have a game room, office, etc. All services are in the basement as the water etc is dug in at 8 ft and all ran through the same few pieces of conduit with the water main. It’s just what works regionally. If we were to move to your area we would want a full 2500 sq feet and all above ground if a basement isn’t an option. Then it turns into a big house!! I think for your area,,,,,.
I’m kinda glad you don’t have to go 8 ft here on this project!! You would use up 1/2 the life of your brand new teeth!!! On the excavator that is!!😂😂.

Yes the concrete guys loved it! They came and looked at it the other day. I’m glad I didn’t too. I’ve about worn these teeth out at 35 hours. Glad to hear you are relaxing hope all is well.

I dug out a small stump today. A 5 minute job took 25!
My daughter in Florida has already had 7” of rain… expecting a foot by morning. They’ve pumped their pool twice already. I told her to text me a couple of inches of rain!

Slick! We really liked those top down shots at the end. I had to chuckle over the paper towel comment because that's just the kind of thing I do as well. I'm paranoid about scratching my stuff too, LOL! I did find some very thin silicone rubber sheet that's about 1mm thick with 3M adhesive on one side that works nice. It's thin enough not to interfere with the magnet and thick enough to protect the metal when you put it on the magnet and attach the magnet to a metal surface. It has a high operating temperature range, too.

I bought one of those sensors after I saw Dirtboss's. I mostly use it on my load arms when I grad off a building pad. It works great for that too.

The whole idea of mounting a laser on a machine is something I have thought about in the past, but I always imagined it falling off. I could not catch your video earlier as my power was off and although I have a generator, there was no internet. The hurricane had minimal impact here but farther northwest of me it is like a war zone. Considering how rocky the ground is there, what you left behind makes sense. Great job as always!
They are really strong magnets but you can still knock them off if you really jar the arm. Glad to hear you are doing well that looked like quite the storm

Could u uncurl the bucket all the way and then Ud just have to worry about the boom being at a 90 , (long as your not pushing the teeth/cutting edge into the ground real hard I guess)n not the bucket and the boom ?? Keep on keepin on brother 👌👌🤘🤘🤘
You could that’s how I use to do it but you it only checks the grade at the teeth or cutting edge. Using the bottom of the bucket gives you more surface area to check. Appreciate you watching

Brandon, how much extra time do you estimate a job when digging in these rocky conditions?
I usually figure a few extra days. The basement area will probably take me 3 days. It’s really rocky

Yes I still have this laser I like it. The only it doesn’t do is slope which I don’t need too much
