    so Mrs. Astigma what about the nonstructure course by spherical or axis drops or add, but do acupuncture to the points below the eyes. In other words what if the tensions of the brain are transferred into the eye and the body or the muscle response. In other words, is this more anatomical or body, or is it about the mind, like using eyeglasses that show everything upside down, then later it reverses but after you take off the so-called differentials stuff off then everything appears upside down until your eyes normalized.

      It could be many things. I couldn't possible tell you. I advise you go and see an opthalmologist to find out why one eye doesn't have good vision. It seems like a very short distance if it were just spasm. It could be myopia, but why it would be so bad in one eye if you have never worn glasses I couldn't say. It could be something completely different. And I am no medical professional. Go get it checked out by a professional. If they say it is myopia, then you can see if something can be done, but unless you know what it is you're wasting your time asking people on the internet. Book an appointment.

    Hi Gemily
    Of all the hyped up, and unnecessary, "prescription", it is for nornal cylinder. The FAA, does not require this measurement. Most eyes, with positive status, and mild, and normal cylinder - will self measure at 20/20.
    I measure my own refraction, to avoid arguments about this issue with ODs.
    Please try to avoid getting wrapped around the axle, on this subject.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      Yes, and have you heard about the new (?) idea that a small amount of astigmatism is normal and actually useful for vision? Almost as though it were a feature of the eyes not a defect.... Interesting how there is so much desire to "fix" our eyes, which are so incredible without our "help".
      You'll be pleased to know I have been checking in regularly with my Snellen. Now with my OD -1.75 OS -2.00 glasses I can read 20/20+5 (when I first started wearing them on 27th April I could only read 20/40 with them). 2 more weeks and I will be going down another step: equalising to -1.75 for both eyes. So excited for that - both the equalisation, and to have left the -2s altogether! Getting closer and closer to reading that Snellen without these lenses.

    Oh good. This Astigmatisms things has indeed confused me a bit. I never had that, till my very last prescription, which gave me a 0.25 on my left eye. So I never really bothered, to find out, what it actually is. Can’t say, I ever noticed any kind of double vision, either...so maybe I was misdiagnosed on that.
    Because....I followed the advice on the seven day email thingy and ordered my first pair of differentials at -1,5 below my normal prescription (which I double checked with the measurement tape, of course), but added 0,25 diopter on the left side, while dropping the astigmatism. Cause that’s what it explicitly said to do in the mail.
    So I went from -4 to -2,5 on the right and -2,75 to -1,5 on the left.
    Only my right eye is slightly, but noticeably weaker with those glasses now (because of that correction, presumably) so I‘m not sure, if they’ll even work for practicing active focus. But then, they’re too ‚strong‘ overall anyway...I don’t experience any real blurriness on either side till things are between 1-1,5 m away (depending on time of day/lighting). Bummer!
    Guess, I‘ll just bite the bullet and order new ones at -2,25 and 1,0 respectively. That should give me even vision and blurriness at the appropriate distance.
    Seems you‘re spot on and one shouldn’t mess with both measurements at once!

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      I am intrigued that you replaced -0.25 of cyl with 0.25 sph. I think 0.5 cyl translates to 0.25 sph, so you may have indeed made your left eye a little stronger than required. Have you bought your new weaker diffs yet? Whatever diffs you are on, how are they feeling now?

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 4 года назад +1

      Gemily Mez
      Yes, you’re correct, I checked my notes again and I actually had -0,5 cyl., not 0,25. With 0,25 you would indeed be supposed to just drop the cylinder without any modifications.
      I didn’t get around to ordering new glasses before my holiday, of course (lol). I just bought a couple of disposable contact lenses in different strengths and will play around with those a bit, to determine the best strength for me.

Only contacts have been show to be able to do that some. Entertaining but confusing and I been wearing glasses 40 years and one cataract surgery which gave me 20/20 in that eye and no astigmatism. I have low astigmatism, not that much. Do you know if it is alright for me to wear 'regular' spherical contacts instead of toric contact lenses. And if I use regular lenses that do not correct astigmatism, will my astigmatism gradually improve due to less reliability on correction?

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 года назад +2

      Ooh, that is a tricky one. How low is your astigmatism? If it is only -0.25 then dropping it for contacts would be a fine reduction (assuming you left sph the same), but dropping some cyl and some sph could be challenging, and dropping cyl on your first reduction can be inadvisable as it is more of a challenge to clear that sph.... are the toric contacts more expensive? And are they not dailies? (these are reasons I can think of as to why you might be eager to drop the cyl early in your journey). Some ideas to consider:
      1) don't drop any cyl. Just continue with the toric lenses while you reduce your sph a couple of times first.
      2) replace your cyl with sph (it would mean some axes would be over corrected, but none would be undercorrted) and let your brain/eye adjust to the new "layout" without the added blur challenge, and then after a few months for your eyes to adapt to that, start reducing with your new simplified sph-only correction (use +1.5ish glasses over your contacts to make a differential)
      3) Keep your current contacts and use +0.25 glasses over the top to create a normalised correction (and maybe later +0.5s) so you don't have to get new contacts until you are ready to drop the cyl. This would make sense if your toric lenses are not dailies and are expensive. Also, the simple +0.25 and +0.5 could come in handy once you get to your final diopter to use as differentials at times.
      Of course, I am not an optometrist or medical professional. These are just some ideas for you to consider and make your own decision.

      @GemilyMez  3 года назад +1

      @@oboy2.077 that's fine. But if you are trying to follow the EndMyopia method to reverse myopia, you need to have a lower correction for close up work. This is key to the process. Most of us use weaker glasses for close up, but if you are using contacts you can create the same affect by using plus lenses over your contacts. This is nothing to do with your astigmatism. Hi Gemily
    I am a big fan of your videos, it's really helpful, I would like to ask you about differential and normalized glasses, should I switch to normalized every 20 minutes when taking breaks I got my first differential three days ago & I have a headache is it because of too much switching.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Hey there! Yeah, I change into my normalised when I have my breaks, because I look into the distance and let my ciliary muscle relax, and there is not much point looking out into blur. Your ciliary may not even relax if you brain can't work out what distance it is meant to be aiming for.
      You say you just got your differentials 3 days ago, so I assume that when you say "normalised" you are using your original full-correction glasses? (that's good).
      It's true that our brains aren't made for focal plane switching, but for different distances, switching between the 2 should be okay. But look, it's possible that it is the switching, but my first guess would actually be the differentials themselves:
      sometimes it takes a few days to get used to them, and some people get some headaches. If the headaches continue for too long though, my next thing I would do, if it were me, would be to check my differential correction - maybe it is too weak, or maybe you adjusted cylinder when you shouldn't have, or maybe the ratio between your eyes in your differentials is different from the ratio between your eyes in your full glasses.
      So a few options. The switching could be it, but not the most likely in my opinion. I hope your headaches go away so you don't have to mess about with details too much. But if you do need to change you differential correction that is a bit of a pain, but the first pair of differentials is always a bit of a guess. Once you get them right, stepping down will get easier from there.

      spherical is myopia correction.
      cylinder is astigmatism correction, and axis is which direction the cylinder correction needs to go.
      Glasses can have only spherical for myopia, but no cylinder. That is perfectly possible.

    Hi, ma'am,
    I am a great fan of yours😊.I am not asking for dioptre specific advice ,but want to clear some general doubts regarding dioptre reductions for astigmatism .
    My eye measurements are :
    On right eye:
    Sph:-4.25 and Cyl:-1.25
    On left eye:
    Sph:-5.00 and Cyl:-1.75
    So if I want to make my first cyl reduction after 2 sph which one among the below should I do:
    1.Just keep the sph as such and simply drop 0.5 diopters of cyl on both eyes.
    OR
    2. Simply drop 0.5 diopters of cyl on both eyes and add 0.25 D of sph on both eyes to compensate for that.
    Which among the 2 methods is the correct way of cyl reduction?
    And if u give me option 1 or 2 as the answer, when should I use the other method? (2 or 1 according to ur answer)

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 года назад +1

      Option 1 is not something I would do (although it might work for some people).
      As I see it, your options are:
      1. Just drop 0.25 of cyl and leave sph as it is, or
      2. Drop 0.5 of cyl and increase sph by 0.25.
      If it were me, I would just drop 0.25 cyl and see how it went. I would be more tempted to swap cyl into sph if I had more cyl than sph (it is good to get rid of cyl before the final diopter).
      Hope it goes well!

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      There is no absolute right answer - it depends on a lot of things that are individual to you, including where your astigmatism correction is all necessary or whether you are over prescribed. Because you have quite low sph, perhaps you could see what it feels like to do some close up without correction at all - can you read a book without your glasses? Or is there too much distortion? Does it give you a headache? Another consideration is how serious would it be if you bought differential glasses but then couldn't use them and had to get another pair? You can get glasses quite cheaply online, but some people doing this are high school students whose parents aren't willing to buy more glasses, so in that case if they can manage even to get a pair of differentials at all it is a big deal, and it could be harder to get a second pair of the first pair isn't correct. If this is similar to your case I would stick to just dropping sph to begin with at least for the first reduction, and address cyl on your second. If on the other hand you are in a position to get differentials with lowered sph AND lowered cyl, and risk it being totally too much for your eyes and brain and so have to try again with a new pair, then it may be worth it to try to drop some cyl in the first diffs.

    • @coolpeep110
      @coolpeep110 4 года назад

      Gemily Mez first if all thankyou soo much for your comment ant advice and yes i can read a book without glasses and it do not give me any headache ia am asking you about differentials is because when i am using my ipad without glasses i have to increase the brigntness a little bit and whenever i am reading any comment or reading something in the ipad i have to come closer to the ipad a little bit as with glasses i dont increase the bightness and i don't have to come closer and also i have not buy my first pair of normalize n differentials yet

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Yeah, if you can go without any glasses for close up, then that's fine. Natural focal plane is usually good. Otherwise you could get diffs only with cyl correction, and no sph correction. Since no glasses at all doesn't cost you anything, you could just try that, and if that isn't working for you, you could then figure out what cyl correction you still need.

      You're in BackTo20/20 though, so it may be that you know something I do not - perhaps with more guidance from the info Jake shares there, it is more possible to figure out what to drop too. *shrug* It only minimizes the risk of getting the correction wrong - your eyes would be just as happy with dropping astig. correction if you managed to get the right numbers, I would think, because it is just reducing the bubble. I'm sure your eyes have told you by now whether the differential correction is a good one. :)

    Thanks for another wonderful video. My cylinder numbers are different and there's a 1.5 difference between the numbers. My OD number is -2.0 and my OS number is-0.5. On my current prescription, the number in the "PD" Column is 35.5 for each eye. When I decide to order a pair of differentials and a pair of normalised glasses, I add these numbers together and put 71 in the "PD" column on the Clearly glasses website? Due to my current financial situation, I was unable to accept Jake's invite to the back to 20/20 course after the 7 day free emails. So when you mention in your videos that you're an Endmyopia student, I'm thinking that you accepted the invitation to the back to 20/20 course? • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Ooh, I have never heard of being given a Pupil Distance for each eye before! Usually it is a single number measuring from one pupil to the other when looking straight ahead. But 71 would be a reasonable pupil distance, so maybe your opto measured from the centre of your face?? I think 71 is a good guess then for your PD. You can check by measuring it yourself and seeing whether you get a similar number. You measure by getting a tape measure, looking in the mirror, closing one eye, placing the start of the tape measure directly above your pupil, then holding that there, swapping eyes, and finding what the measurement is directly above your second pupil. Just be careful you are not too close to the mirror or you will get a close up pupil distance (may be good for diffs?) not a normal distance PD.
      And no, I did not sign up for 20/20. let Rough Guide with the videos is all I have paid for, and I only bought that because it was quarantine so I didn't have to spend money on petrol, and I was seeing some exciting gains and wanted to thank Jake. Hi, Thanks for the video. My son 5 years has only astigmatism of -2 in both eyes. He is able to read 20/50. Should I make him wear -1.5 for both the eyes or if he wants to go without glasses is that also fine?

      If he doesn't want to wear them, then don't make him wear them. At 5 his eyes are still growing, so if you make him wear them all the time, the eye will adapt to them instead of to the natural focal plane. Otherwise you could get some at a weaker correction for when/if he does want/need to wear them.

    Just discovered your channel, along with endmyopia :)
    Started wearing my last prescription (I just thought to start ASAP) now instead of the current OD prescribed one which is higher.

      But the thing is that my prev prescription has both sph and cyl less than the new once, should I keep wearing them?

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      @@vedikapainjane3591 A few things to ask yourself - how does it feel when you wear them? How different are they from your previous correction? And are they balanced with your more recent correction - so have both eyes gone up by the same amount, or has one eye changed more than the other? I would take care with that, but it is quite possible that your old correction could work for you. More important than having a lower correction for daily use is having a lower correction for close up work - lower by about 1.5 - 2 diopters. That's more important than getting your full correction off your face for distance/normal vision.

      @@GemilyMez I stopped wearing them, the difference in one eye was too great (both sph and cyl) so it was making my head ache, waiting for my differentials (strict lockdown restarted in my area). The other eye was perfect, but I am gonna buy the differentials first, almost done with the 7 day subscription of endmyopia :)

    Im kinda of confused. Am I supposed to leave the CYL and Axis alone until I drop my sphere then? My normal glasses are:
    Left: SPH: -4.25 CYL: -1.25 Axis:150
    Right: SPH: -4.00 CYL: -1.25 Axis: 010
    When getting differentials I can drop my sphere 0.75 and function great, I’m just not sure how to handle the astigmatism here.

      This should explain:
      endmyopia.org/pro-topic-how-to-reduce-prescription-complexity/
      You can reduce your cyl before you have reduced all your sph, but get the sph moving first before attempting cyl.

    I have
    Left -- -1.25(Cyl)
    Right-- -2.5(cyl) +1.5(Sph)
    What should i do . I got this correction after having lasik surgery.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 года назад

      Oh, wow. That is a Positive Sph, so that is not myopia, but hyperopia or presbyopia. When you had lasik surgery, did you have good vision immediately, and then this astigmatism and hyper/presbyopia developed over time? Or was this the result of lasik surgery?
      If you had perfect vision after lasik, and this developed, I would imagine the EndMyopia method would be at least worth a try, even though there is no myopia correction in your prescription there.

      @@ashishkurzekar9518 So you got a residual prescription of L- 0.25(cyl) and R -0.5(cyl)
      but now it is up to L -1.25(Cyl)
      and
      R-2.5(cyl) +1.5(Sph)t correct? If that is the case, then the surgery left a certain refraction, but the rest developed over time from your eye adjusting, I would imagine (I am not a doctor or optometrist or any kind of medical professional, by the way). I would think that any that developed over time at least would be reversible with the right stimulus and habits. That + sph.... Do you need that all the time, or only when reading? And did you need that immediately after the surgery, or has that developed since?
