Why is the owner making such a big deal about it still having the original radiator? The original drivetrain is what matters. The 340 is a great engine. Made about 50 more horsepower than what Chrysler advertised. It is a high reving engine and with a little tweeking it is a giant killer.
It is an interesting car. California cars typically did not come with rear exiting exhaust (California law made this illegal), but this one has it. The rusty rear floor pans and trunk pan are likely due to the back window leaking.
I love the 71 Cuda. When I was sixteen I spent some time under one scraping the black under coating off because it was not factory. A guy I knew bought it and put it back to original. It did not need much as was just modded for drag strip. It is the AAR 340 six pack. Guy still has it in his garage sitting there gaining worth. This is mint and No he won’t sell as he knows it’s value. My favourite car. It was in his garage 36 years ago and is still there.
I had my chance to buy a 71 Cuda exactly like the 340 here in the video but with the 383 but decided to buy a 73 Pontiac Formula 455 at the time instead! That was back in the 1988 when muscle cars were still widely available and affordable!

I can't find any information on whether E-body interiors could be had in two tone tan/brown. I have never seen one like that. Legendary does offer this color combo but I don't know if that is OEM. Where is Mark Worman or Tony D'Agostino when you need them (Dennis may know...).
According to my source, which is a Cars & Parts ID number book, these are the following interior colors for all 1971 Plymouth models. Light blue, medium blue, dark blue, russet, green, tan, light gold, medium gold, black, black & orange, black & white and black & white again. There is no two tone color combination like that listed.
I've seen quite a few 71 Barracuda/Cuda's with this brown with 2 tone brown with tan seat inserts. Not my favorite interior option, but when it's nice, it's ok.

Phipps Automotive, may we never forget!. Richard is lucky to have such an oldschool wrench turner as Phipps and I'm sure Richard knows but still!.. Anyways I think this will be a good purchase when it's polished up and Phipps and the monkey's get it running right again.

Name your price..
I counted as Richard pulled out bundles of $10K, I counted 5 bundles, $50K for the car. Richard, you can't hide nothing from Gas Monkey fans.
Didn't pay 50. He said he bought enough to pay for it but now he has to take some of it out now that we know what we're doing. Paid 45.
@@kevinfleming9919 IMHO, the edit came when he was about to split the fifth bundle to leave some mystery. I agree on 45.
*anything
Yep.
He paid $40k
There ain’t nothing better than the sound of a true old mopar, NOTHING sounds like em!
Why is the owner making such a big deal about it still having the original radiator? The original drivetrain is what matters. The 340 is a great engine. Made about 50 more horsepower than what Chrysler advertised. It is a high reving engine and with a little tweeking it is a giant killer.
"The radiator is the 50 year old factory part and will absolutely need to be swapped out for a new one. Ain't that great?"
What would a one owner sell it car like that
@@schmuhf why would it need to be swapped out??
because MOPAR stamped matching numbers on radiators. You can keep the radiator shell for the matching numbers part and re-core it.
@@schmuhf Ahhhh, not necessarily. And if it is bad internally, it would get recored to keep the factory numbers intact on the shell.
It is an interesting car. California cars typically did not come with rear exiting exhaust (California law made this illegal), but this one has it. The rusty rear floor pans and trunk pan are likely due to the back window leaking.
Man this video brings back great memories. Awesome!
I have never seen bucket seats that two- tone tan & brown colors. Very interesting .
Nothing wrong with a 340, I have seen that motor take down a number of Chev 396's both Chevelle and El Camino.
LOL.........maybe over a cliff . A LT-1 in a camaro or Chevelle woul;d eat a 340's LUNCH.
Thank you Richard and crew for another great video. Keep it up; I subscribe and watch every one!
Work? They don't do squat . All they do is clean it up a little and flip it
1971....... its some rust....No shit!!!! its over 50 years old.The plymouth cuda is awsome ...
Cool Car! I would bring it back to original and drive the wheels off it! :)
same here. Would only change the color but clean, derust and polish the engine. Probs has another 100k miles in it if the engine is solid.
*Richard* *CRACKS ME UP* *CATER*
gas monkey you tube vids really do make my day!! thanks from Scotland!
Thank you! Glad that you're loving our new content!
@@GasMonkeyGarage I am loving it and made up that you replied, I'm in Glasgow, Scotland, keep the amazing content coming, thanks gmg
I had my chance to buy a 71 Cuda exactly like the 340 here in the video but with the 383 but decided to buy a 73 Pontiac Formula 455 at the time instead! That was back in the 1988 when muscle cars were still widely available and affordable!
Cool find and F all the haters in here!
Richard never thinks twice
I would’ve laughed if that man said WOOOOH 🤣👉👉
Why
Ask Don Johnson if he needs another "stunt car" for the Nash Bridges revamp.. I used to love watching that show when I was a kid, made me appreciate Mopars a lot more.. now I'm 35 and still love them '71 Cuda's
15:40 he's a real one 👏 my man's said I got me some of that lmaooo. Money in the bank
I love the videos that you put out on RUclips so much better than cable TV. I would love to have a couple barley pops with you someday.
Richard says I don't want to pay $50,000, and the guy says $45,000 and they agree.
yeah idk whos calling those shots but richard has never cared and is why i love gas monkey they never hide anything he has always been transparent . from day one
We won’t know
I think he said $60.000 he didn't wan't to pay and the guy said $45.000 bottom
line, but i counted 6 stacks on Richard so he brought it just incase.
He wouldn’t be dropping $25k from his initial asking price. Richard 100% said he didn’t wanna pay 60k and they settled at $55k.
@@hucksey @55k that's bout right 15k under asking 70k he wouldn't drop 25 surely ....they should maybe pay a little over pay more publicity of show utube channel
Del Rio Texas has a ‘70 convertible hemi cuda, one owner garage kept with less than 500 miles. Supposedly owner turned down a 5 mil offer
The drive there he really wants a beer and doesn't care about the price unless it's right
Love the car buy episodes!!
I would take the cuda in a heartbeat it has not been butchered up or resto modded.
Hey Richard I ordered shirts three-plus weeks ago have not seen them was trying to get in and win one of your cars, help a brother out
I had a 71 383 4 spd Cuda in 1980, over revved it and broke a rod then sold it for $75, other than the blown engine it was in excellent condition, makes me a little sick thinking about it now
I can’t wait to see what you do with that Gem!
Richard usually under-values MOPARS..
fix dents & rust on original panels, polish it,sell it..
Would be a nasty built car!
Don't underestimate the performance of a 340. It gains in performance what it gives up in weight.
"You're the car guy""...😒
No, car flipper, there's a big difference.
They are only original once... fix the rust, get it running/driving/stopping and move it on. At one time I'd definitely agree someone will just pull it apart, but anymore it's hard to find one in this condition even.
Cool find Richard and I respect your hustle 💪
I would buy this ASAP! since it’s number matching and all the paper work is their. It’s worth every penny
I think Richard paid between $45-$49,000 for the car.
When RR said he was calling someone who "knew", I knew exactly who he was calling and I also knew Dennis would have the correct answer.
Beautiful car.
I was surprised even when he jokingly said 35k.
Prices have certainly gone wild compared to when I would look.
Nash Bridges loved this color!
I’m sure we’ve seen this episode before
I sent Richard pictures of my 1968 2 door Plymouth fury 383 police interceptor custom wheels clean title current registration running awesome for $6000 God knows how much he spent on this
