Tune in tomorrow, to see how Matt comes up with a way to go over budget in the "unlimited budget" Combo Buyers Guide. 🤣 Thank you, gentlemen; Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
🤣🤣🤣 " ..and lastly, I want to include something you have no possible way to attain. A 1 of 1 , custom made....." "this thing is awesome ! If you ever get a chance to get one , do it. You can't. Ever. But still, if you could...."
I only watch these 400, 500 combos to day dream about some day owning one. Thanks guys for all that you do, hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. my wife just woke up and asked if I was watching these vids.....BUSTED
Not to be corny, but I'm thankful you guys don't hide all of your most amazing content, like these Buyer's Guides, behind Members Only pay walls. You probably could get a lot of paying memberships from your half million subscribers, but thank you both for not going that route. Tim and Matt HAPPY THANKSGIVING to your families and you!🦃🎣👍🏻
Happy thanksgiving Matt & Tim and y’all’s families! So incredibly thankful for my friends & family today and everyday, and of course for you guys for all the amazing knowledge and passion y’all have for this sport. I feel like y’all are old friends of mine even though I’ve never met y’all, it truly means a lot to me and I’m sure everyone else!
Seriously guys ? You. Two. Are definitely the two best teachers on RUclips and I watch you guys EVERY day,,but you're not going to get any thing better from those unheard of $500 rods than I can catch with one of my $100 rods,,, the technology is not there,,I understand that having nice things is great, that's why we work... Anyhow, please never stop making videos!!!! We 💕 u guys!!!
Ditto. Producing these videos takes an enormous amount of time. Both Matt and Tim are great at rolling through the content almost completely error-free, but it's still quite a time commitment to produce new content as often as they do. Good luck out there!
I love when they list in the description their favorite rod per technique. Sometimes it’s so hard to tell how this $350 rod compares to that $350 rod that are listed for the same technique. Saw this in last years buyers guide the the Orochi Whipsnake listed for dropshot. Bought one and I love that rod. Makes it so simple
Very much agree, and they do it in their "technique" videos as well. I also like that they list both a high-end and a budget option. Good luck out there!
Simply said, you guys are the BEST when it comes to these reviews!! i have been watching every single one since your first one ever years ago. in fact, I have made some purchases based on your reviews and have never been disappointed!!! I didn't have to follow every little detail you said but based on your review I did what was best for my pocket and Viola!! super happy with what I got. I simply understand your concept and know how to apply it to my own conditions. Please guys don't you ever stop doing this, I think it's one of the best things you can do for Us. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas for you and Beautiful Families!!
Expride B spinning rods are awesome. Ive been using a 6’8” M and Im adding the 6’10” ML. One with with an 18 Exsence ci4+ c300mhg and the other with a 21 Exsence c3000mhg.
Happy Thanksgiving to both of your families! I have to comment on the buyer's guide videos; they are extremely helpful and the video quality has only gotten better over the years. Great job guys!
Just so everyone knows, you can get a Metanium or Bantam for about $230 if you order it from Japan. Check out places like Digitaka and Asian Portal. You might be thinking you'll have to wait months to get it, but that's not the case. Digitaka is actually ships faster than Tackle Warehouse. Got my Metanium 4 days after ordering. Take advantage of the exchange rate while it lasts
@@Czarlite it does, but for the price it's still cheaper to buy a new handle and replace it. I didn't feel the need. I just bought knobs for a Curado K and switched them out. It does have a different spool. What confused me though is if you do the conversation from whatever it is meters to yards it's about the same amount. Either way I find it to be more than enough line capacity. Unless it's being used for something like frog fishing. With tax a Metanium is about $470, so at $230 you're saving $240. That's a huge difference!
Just make sure you know what you're getting into with JDM reels... they do have internal differences and are tuned to be more finesse-oriented. They also have no US support if you have issues... youre really going to struggle with parts and you can't get any service at all. That said, we own a few JDM reels. We just wouldn't recommend it to 99% of anglers because of the issues that can come later.
Always look forward to this series. Once thought I would NEVER buy within the 200 and 300 dollar range. It was unthinkable. Now I have multiple pieces of gear in that category. Heck I have a swimbait lure in that range now. What am I saying.....I will never say never again when it comes to the 4 and 500 level gear. LOL.
Agree 100% on the Curado 70. I nearly spool this thing on casts. Amazing reel. And at least for me backlashes less than my SLX DC. I also suck at flipping and pitching but this reel definitely is helping me get better with this technique.
Yeah man, growing up in the Midwest St Crois Avid was what I fished as a kid and young man. I like the legend lineup and Megabass at this point...good stuff. Glad you guys do these line ups! That Megabass Orochi xx Jerkbait rod and Aldebaron MGL is bang up good for jerkbait fishing, and I'm a 110 nut all year, so....
Happy Thanksgiving Tim & Matt to you and your families. Every 4+ lb bass I have caught in the last 2 years was due to technique/baits/equipment I learned from you both.
Just picked up my first megabass rod today, it’s the jerkbait special. Hope it’s as amazing as everyone says it is. But also grabbed some tactical gear like y’all’s sunglasses, a couple tactical burritos, and really been thinking about grabbing a tactical wake too. Happy thanksgiving to y’all and y’all’s family. Thanks for all y’all do!!!
I should have known that St Croix would be paired best with Daiwa since they sell their reels on the website and are the only outside company using Daiwa AGS guides. I always thought my St Croix rods felt weird in hand... as soon as I swapped in a Daiwa after this video, it clicked and I was mindblown.. 🤣💡they make the St Croix's feel SOOOO MUCH BETTER and was the missing link. Sad it took until this video for me to try it. Thank you Tim and Matt!
Happy Thanksgiving Tim & Matt and your family's. Not only on this day but every day I am thankful for many blessings in my life. That being said, I am very thankful for the time and effort & sharing your knowledge and little tips & tricks you two put into all these great videos. I have learned a lot from watching TB videos and I truly appreciate it. Have a blessed Thanksgiving day.
The Tatula SV reel that Matt has on the St Croix looked like it was the previous generation. Great reel, but the current generation Tatula SV is even better for the same price.
would you be able to do a similar favorite or best combo for the $400 price point. Maybe not so precise but the major categories, Cranking, Jig, Chatterbait, dropshot, spinnerbait, finesse, something like that? Please?
I can say with confidence that I go through your videos to gain confidence before making a purchase for anything and everything in bass fishing. You guys are the most passionate, thorough, and very best at educating the viewers on every topic you cover. Love the videos and content you two create. You still have to come up to Canada and fish for some monsters up here for some Canadian Content. As a kayak angler, I often have to downsize the length of my rods for an easier time on the water. With that being said I was wondering if for a crankbait rod, instead of the IMX Pro 906 CBR would the IMX Pro 845 CBR be a good substitute as a shorter rod on the kayak?
The 845 CBR is a great rod! It shines with lipless and squarebills but I've caught several giants on deep cranks with it while in a pinch. It worked very well, I just had to baby them more than I would with the 906.
Thank you guys I love your channel the info technique, tactics and gear is great. That being said I have a request on how I can judge a rod or reel when I go to a shop just by puting my hands on them. How do they flex where do they flex what do guides do and how are positioned. Same for reels how do I tell whats a good drag by components and by feel. I learned enough from you guys that when i spend my money on gear I don't want to waste it. Thanks again for all the great info and I hope this isn't to much to ask for.
Whats great is that some of these manufacturers have a lifetime no questions ask warranty. kind of bites to spend 300$ on a rod and for whatever reason it breaks and you have to buy the same rod at full price because there is only a 1 year warranty (shimano). Part of the reason why I like dobyns. I think it's something worth mentioning.
Curado 70 was my first MGL endeavor. I still remember saying “holy sh@t” the first cast when I launched a 110 jr a good 15 yards farther then usual with substantially less effort.
I have the SV TWS and use it on a 7’2 Medium Tatula casting rod for light-ish stuff. I was using it on my Brailist but I’m ordering a Tatula Elite P/F for that rod!
Kinda crazy to look at the gama rod being a JDM rod on sale, and then look at the 13 fishing reel on sale and see that combo is only 50 bucks outside of the price point!
Love it great way to start off turkey day. I would love to hear what materials makes a rod more sensitive, for example or how or what makes a reel better. I know what glass does to a rod but how does graphite or carbon effect a rod. What are mega bass made of that drives the prices
I don't think they had space in this video description, but they link their favorite glasses (and other gear) in the description of the 400 combo guide: ruclips.net/video/-H9VEnkSiow/видео.html
We're actually wearing our own glasses 👍🏼 We designed them with incredibly high end lenses and coatings without the high end price tag. You can see them here: bit.ly/3cLH0kl
Gentlemen, There is not a favorite aside from frog rods for various topwater applications, ie poppers, walking baits, buzzers. Aside from poppers where i use MBR IMX. Your thoughts?.
Happy thanksgiving guys!!! Thank you so much for putting these videos together! Quick question: for jig and Texas rig fishing, what would be the equivalent of the megabass Orochi in shimano Expride? I fish mainly 3/8oz to 1oz jigs. I’m looking to get one soon.
If you were going to get the Brailist and put a higher end reel than curator 150 for an all around jig rod what would you use? I like the Chronarch price point but I am still trying to learn which reels are best for which applications
Happy thanksgiving and I was wondering have y’all tried the shimano expride 6’10” medium glass for square bill fishing been wanting to try that rod for this technique
Happy Thanksgiving to you and ypur families! Thank you for your videos. Why do you not see a lot or torzite or recoil guides on bass fishing rods? For higher end inshore rids its a common thing.
Which bass fishing technique in your opinion warrants an angler's first "jump up" to high quality rods and reels? With budget rods being generally more parabolic, it seems budget rods are most suitable for treble hook lures. So, would you say topwater and cranking rods are the last techniques that would warrant a "quality" rod? Turning back to my original question, if you can remain with budget rods for treble hook lures then what technique most demands the quality rod and reel upgrade?
I would say, any type of finess fishing will demand this jump. No, its not detrimental, but you WILL notice a difference. Now, for cranking and top water, I find it unnecessary to have anything more than a comfortable, familiar rod that's only housing the impact of the hook set and no real feeling needed to identify the strike.
@@oldeschoolbob1022 I can agree with that. Jigging IMO was one of the hardest techniques I learned as a young angler. To this day, I still cannot catch fish on a tube. 😮💨
@@alexfamie5255 The spiraling fall of a goby colored tube in 30-foot visibility Lake Michigan water is too tempting for smallmouth in Chicago. I guess it's all about location. To this day twister tail grubs and tubes just get it done up here.
@@midwestfischerman yea, and I know they're a go-to to this day on LSC. I've tried, but I just have better luck with a football jig and a hula grub twin tail, or on a biffle bait jig head with the same tail.
I noticed that your abuyers guides don’t include the Shimano Poison Adrena. If there is a reason (meaning not mere coincidence) please share why. Thanks 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
Guys, real quick. I noticed you listed the Megabass Shaky Head spinning rod as one of your favorite models. What is your prefer, ideal, application you use the Shaky Rod for? I have an Orochi XX Shaky Head rod and I am trying to figure out where this rod best fits in my lineup. Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving to the TB Family!
Happy Thanksgiving. Love the buyers guides, we're into my Dreamland at this point, partially out of fear, don't wanna taste that good life and have to dive in. But if I did, what technique do you think most benefits from the higher end stuff?
Depends what you fish more but the ones I appreciate most are either my jerkbait combo or bottom contact. Both of them for different reasons but they both make a huge jump in performance to high end gear.
There are a few techniques where you'll see a HUGE difference. Jigs, Ned, Dropshot... basically any finesse or bottom contact techniques. The other one that really stands out to me is lipless cranks... not because of sensitivity but because you can increase your hookup to land ratio dramatically.
I fish the st.lawrwnce river alot and it's normal to use 3/4 oz dropshot weights when fishing heavy current. I've yet to find a rod that's perfect for that. Any recommendations?
Happy thanksgiving guys! Quick question: would the 7’6 H or the 7’7 H Expride be too stout for something like a 1/2oz pitching jig? Looking to really dial that combo in but can’t swing the Orochi just yet!
The 7'7" Heavy is definitely the better rod for that. It has a more parabolic action than the 7'6" Heavy. You'll enjoy that rod a lot for a 1/2 oz Pitchin Jig.
@@tacticalbassin one last thing I just thought of: if I were to make that leap to the Braillist, should I be concerned with the top end of the lure rating only being 1oz when my jig+trailer tends to be a bit above?
Daiwa tatula sv tws are great reels. I have 4 of them they have been really good never backlash . Have you ever tried Garcia Veritas rods ? Happy thanksgiving 🦃 🎣
Need advice on right action spinning rod please! Im looking for Expride B spinning rod to throw micro finness bass baits along with super light crappie baits. That I can launch 1/16oz baits far distance. Should I get the 7' light action? Or the 7' 2" med light action? The med light says for 1/8 & up. I'm afraid it won't throw 1/16 weighted crappie baits? Trying to buy during the sale. I appreciate your help
I don't think Ive seen you guys mention the Stradic in any videos yet. Is The jump to a Vanford or Sustain big time worth it compared to a Stradic? I got a Stradic this year and I love it so I'm wondering if it's worth that much more to jump up to a Vanford or Sustain.
@@tacticalbassin I thought the Stradic felt amazing so that's good to know it gets even better. I'll probably pick one of those up this weekend. thanks!
To the Curado 150mgl and the Metanium...I prefer the Curado 150 mgl. I got rid of 1 of my metaniums to get 2 more curado 150mgl. I find the metaniums to be very touchy and finicky if conditions or lure weight changes.
@@tacticalbassin yes sir. Understood. What I'm trying to express us just how darn good the Curado 150 mgl is. That reel is fantastic at the price. Happy thanks giving.
I noticed the link to the frog rod takes you to the old Expride A. The 7’3” XH in the A is no longer available on Tackle Warehouse. Are the two rods still the same? Have you guys put in time with the Expride B for frogs?
Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for doing these video's for everyone. I have a quick question. I am looking at getting an combo for my son but he is only about 5'8". Would you recommend the 6'10 or 7'2 MH Expride and would you pair it with a 70 mgl or 150 mgl. Mostly for an all around worm/jig conbo. I know sometimes little differences make a difference. Thanks
Any general thoughts on witch way to lean on an Expride B spinning rod. 6’-10”ML vs 7’Light. Looking for versatile finesse rod. Currently using Expride A as drop shot rod. Worth replacing with 7’L and moving the old Expride to general finesse?
Guys, first off, Happy Thanksgiving. Secondly, love these videos. Thirdly, Im looking for a great top water combo. By top water, I mean whopper ploppers and ploppers. I see frog combos in the descriptions but Im looking for the other top water. Thanks!
@@tacticalbassin Thanks for the response. $500, I could possibly do a Matt deal go over a little lol I do have a curado 150mgl and a Metanium mgl and a curado dc. Just letting you know the reels I have. Brands, not a big issue. Whatever you think works.
Just curious have you played with the Zodias ZDC72ML-BFSA for lipless? In the store the bend is almost exactly the same as the 845C. Just a cheaper price. Thank you for the rod listings.
@@tacticalbassin How do you like it?! I have heard the 7'2" ML get tons of praise but not much with the 7'. Looking for something a little bit stouter than my drop shot rod. and a good backup to my windbsuter.

Love it great way to start off turkey day. I would love to hear what materials makes a rod more sensitive, for example or how or what makes a reel better. I know what glass does to a rod but how does graphite or carbon effect a rod. What are mega bass made of that drives the prices
I may have missed it, but what’s your favorite BFS combo? Thoughts on a good Neko/Wacky rod?
I recall reading that a BFS Buyers Guide is coming as part of this series. Happy Thanksgiving!
Tomorrow’s video 😉
Love your videos. What would be your favorite swim jig combo?
I can't answer for them but the 7'2 MH Expride (NOT the glass version) is a great swim jig rod.
Very informative thanks, what sunglasses are you guys wearing?
You guys have got to check out edge rods, loomis' latest project
Shakespeare rod and shimano caius $90 bucks total and you will have a great setup for years
I love my Abu Garcia fantasia casting rod.
My dream rod someday I make come true thankz TB happy Thanksgiving
That Braillist...sadly, I am a bank angler who falls into, over and onto most everything...it would absolutely make me cry to break it.
Any recommendations on a lefty reel with a flipping switch?
Happy Thanksgiving! Great reviews and recommendations.
Thank you! You too!
No one does it like TB!!
If you were going to get the Brailist and put a higher end reel than curator 150 for an all around jig rod what would you use? I like the Chronarch price point but I am still trying to learn which reels are best for which applications
What time are you live tomorrow Morning west coast time would love to catch it
Question any reason Kistler never makes your list. Helium or Zbone
We just recently got a Zbone. So far we really like it
Where are you guys at that it's so green behind you? Lol. I'm in south east Tennessee and it's all brown here
Any experience with the St Croix Victory? 7’1 MH Fast. The G Loomis GCX 843 MBR is another $60. Curious how they compare.
Happy thanksgiving and I was wondering have y’all tried the shimano expride 6’10” medium glass for square bill fishing been wanting to try that rod for this technique
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, fellas!
Happy Thanksgiving!!
If you had to pick a football jig rod out of the expride lineup what would it be
Would you recommend Orochi xx Enforcer, Shakyhead or Shimano expride B 7’ M for main use 5” weightless senko with EWG. Thanks in advance!
Florida is not exactly a hotbed of finesse techniques for largemouth; I would probably buy a jig rod for my first foray into "high end" gear.
Happy Thanksgiving both of you.
question for the vanford reel which hg is it?
I noticed that your abuyers guides don’t include the Shimano Poison Adrena. If there is a reason (meaning not mere coincidence) please share why. Thanks 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
We LOVE Poison Adrena, we just aren't there yet. They're too expensive to make this guide without a very cheap reel pairing.
Having a tough choice deciding on a deep cranking rod. G loomis Imx pro 968 or 969 cbr? Or even the Legend Tournament 7’10 XH?
968 for sure 👍🏼
Thank you!
Every time Matt goes over you must giveaway the combo! 🤣
Bwahahaha I'd have no gear left 😂
Is the poison adrena's "bang for the buck" in its price point the same as the exprides "bang" in its price point? In you guys opinion
Man lets get it. Happy Thanksgiving TB!!
Happy Thanksgiving fellas!! ❤❤
Happy Thanksgiving!
@@tacticalbassin awesome, thanks! I figured that Mod Fast would be the better option for that. Happy thanksgiving!
Definitely 👍🏼 Happy Thanksgiving!
@@tacticalbassin one last thing I just thought of: if I were to make that leap to the Braillist, should I be concerned with the top end of the lure rating only being 1oz when my jig+trailer tends to be a bit above?
How you all ever reviewed any Kistler rods?
There is a significant jump in weight reduction and feel 👍🏼
@@tacticalbassin I thought the Stradic felt amazing so that's good to know it gets even better. I'll probably pick one of those up this weekend. thanks!
Honestly, the Strafic IS amazing! The Stradic of today is 10x better than the high end reels of the past!
@@tacticalbassin thanks for the continued info. Fav fishing YT channel by far.
I’m so surprised you guys haven’t talked about the Diawa Zillion!!!
The new ones are great! Keep following next few buyers guides and you might see them mentioned 😉
To the Curado 150mgl and the Metanium...I prefer the Curado 150 mgl. I got rid of 1 of my metaniums to get 2 more curado 150mgl. I find the metaniums to be very touchy and finicky if conditions or lure weight changes.
All the MGLs are great. When we talk about the Metanium, we are talking about the Metanium MGL.
@@tacticalbassin yes sir. Understood. What I'm trying to express us just how darn good the Curado 150 mgl is. That reel is fantastic at the price. Happy thanks giving.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I noticed the link to the frog rod takes you to the old Expride A. The 7’3” XH in the A is no longer available on Tackle Warehouse. Are the two rods still the same? Have you guys put in time with the Expride B for frogs?
Yes, I'd the A is out don't have any hesitation to get the B. It's the same great action 👍🏼
YES!!!
Happy Thanksgiving fellas!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks
the 610 paired with a 70 mgl is an amazing combo. I think that would be a great combo for him
@@tacticalbassin thanks much appreciated
Any general thoughts on witch way to lean on an Expride B spinning rod. 6’-10”ML vs 7’Light. Looking for versatile finesse rod. Currently using Expride A as drop shot rod. Worth replacing with 7’L and moving the old Expride to general finesse?
That 7' light is a pretty awesome rod, that's the way I'd go 👍🏼
Thanks. 7’L it is!
Guys, first off, Happy Thanksgiving. Secondly, love these videos. Thirdly, Im looking for a great top water combo. By top water, I mean whopper ploppers and ploppers. I see frog combos in the descriptions but Im looking for the other top water. Thanks!
Happy Thanksgiving! Is there a certain price range or brand you want to stay with?
@@tacticalbassin Thanks for the response. $500, I could possibly do a Matt deal go over a little lol I do have a curado 150mgl and a Metanium mgl and a curado dc. Just letting you know the reels I have. Brands, not a big issue. Whatever you think works.
Just curious have you played with the Zodias ZDC72ML-BFSA for lipless? In the store the bend is almost exactly the same as the 845C. Just a cheaper price.
Thank you for the rod listings.
I've thrown blade baits and tail spins on it quite a bit so it's not a far reach to imagine a lipless on there.
@@tacticalbassin glad to know I am not too far off. Thank you.
@tacticalbassin have you had any time with the 7' Medium Expride B spinning rod?
Yes, quite a bit
@@tacticalbassin How do you like it?! I have heard the 7'2" ML get tons of praise but not much with the 7'. Looking for something a little bit stouter than my drop shot rod. and a good backup to my windbsuter.
