  • With the release of chapter 238, Kashimo has had a bit of a tumble and as expected a majority of the fanbase completely misunderstood the battle between Kashimo and Sukuna and failed to understand Kashimo's purpose in the story and his character.
    So in this video I'll attempt to give some insight into Kashimo's character and hopefully convince some of these people to actually read the manga.

    In my eyes this was the purpose of Kashimo
    1. Be a boss ass mf
    2. Be a cool ass mf
    3. Introduce a lighting technique into the series
    4. Reveal and explain Sukunas philosophy and outlook on life as well as further push the question the manga set out to answer (what does it mean to live a good life)
    In my opinion he fulfilled his duty as a character perfectly. However Imma admit that his end was a bit too abrupt and outta nowhere but thats mostly cuz I feel like Gege is rushing through this last portion of the series, he just wants to get it done and over with.

    Perfectly said. Anything else is just troll behaviour. Kashimo’s goal was never to take out Sukuna, at most you can stretch it out to having a good fight for once.

    I think it's interesting how sukuna and yuji both want people to have a good death but they do it in a very different ways. And sukuna seems to only want to give a good death to the ones he respects the strong or at least that's my interpretation.

    It's completely fair to believe that he has a subtle narrative purpose and at the same time see that his character concept was completely wasted on a ideological dump to show us more of who we already know Sukuna to be.

    Okay, he wanted to fight Sukuna, we knew that and we ALSO knew that he had a one time use CT. So of course people expected some hype moments from a manga that has forsaken a lot of character moments and development for the sake of neverending slugfest of constant fighting.
    Mind you, i was a Kashimo hater, not even a fan 😅
    I like how you say in the video, that Kashimo is trowing EVERYTHING at Sukuna. He is BEYOND mankind as described by narrator and that same narrator said his CT also manipulates ALL electrical phenomena.... So what does he do with this seemingly busted ability?
    He screames few times at Sukuna and does enregy blast couple of times. Yeah, really exciting.
    It is very funny seeing you insulting people who never expected Kashimo to be a deep character, which he is not, and just wanted to see his anticipated CT do something, which it did not.
    And get all upset about people not finding a THEME, which does not even reflect Kashimo
    as much as it reflects Sukuna and Gojo, as well as being portrayed and conveyed better with them, and insist it is his deep characterisation.
    Can you imagine? Even good ideas sometimes can be executed not that good. Or even downright terrible.
    Nobody cared about Kashimo's character aside from his CT, because there was zero characterisation of the direction Gege took in 337 - 338, and only wanted him to throw hands. So at the end, we get umderwhelming, allegedley busted CT with no showings and a clunky introduced connection with a theme, better established with other characters. pEAk fiction. Let him cook some more 👏
    And this overall theme of peerless strength, lonileness and love, introduced with Yorozu, was and is handled not in the best way, to my taste.
    I liked how it was handled in Shibuya with both Gojo and Sukuna more.

      @@CursedValor The question is did he tho? Based on the showings we have now he is shown as a strong character no doubt but a powerful one deserving of the title of strongest of his era? From what we all read and saw he at most is just above Hakari and Yuta both are powerful sorcerers in their own right but not strong enough to own the title of the strongest in any era.
      Edit: To further extend on my point Meguna was healing while he was getting hit by Kashimo's strongest form. Like man if you looked at the panels of 237 that was disappointing I did not expect Kashimo to even deal significant dmg just expected him to actually deal dmg or show off a cool technique.

    Kashimo's only purpose was to drag this Sukuna agenda further along. I mean he randomly grew a third eye and just started glazing his opponent, Sukuna. Now look, Sukuna gains 2 extra arms and an extra mouth and Sukuna trolls continue trying to "prove" Sukuna could beat Gojo by himself without Megumi's soul or CT just because we see Kashimo glazing Sukuna and we see the word "perfection"...

    This is overanalyzing. I don't really care for Kashimo? He just seemed to be a plot device for our players to get 100 points at the time + give a hype battle during Culling Games arc. Post Culling Game, the other purpose he could've served was to damage Sukuna and show off his 1 time usage CT (at least make the battle epic for this type of condition). I already knew Sukuna was going to shit on the concept of Love. He is literally evil incarnated. Seems like we pointlessly got closure for Kashimo's story but who cares about him ? He could've been a cool character but he was just used for plot and even more uselessly to show that Sukuna is evil.

    • @CursedValor
      @CursedValor  Год назад +10

      not overanalysing, I just understood what the character represents and their purpose in the story, kashimo is one of the simplest characters in the whole show idk how it goes over so many people's heads.

    • @markfan1576
      @markfan1576 Год назад +3

      @@CursedValor I guess overanalyzing is not the word to use here. I guess Im shitting on his character as a whole. He was propped up to give a good battle then got changed to be some philosophical way of looking at life, which I didn't really care for, for his character, and it wasn't even foreshadowed that he was seeking these type of closures. It just seemed like Gege didn't want to create an elaborate battle and said "I'll just off him, but at least he give him the purpose of showing Sukuna's interpretation of Love" - which is something Sukuna could've explained with someone like Gojo or Yuji. So in a sense, if you removed Kashimo from the story overall, it doesn't swing or even dent the overall story at all.

    The whole scenario is starting to remind me of the finale of the dark tournament in YYH. The concept of the villain developing more layers and clashing against the hero while transforming into a more primal form also came up at the end of shibuya too. I think part of kashimo's purpose was to start peeling back those layers as you say.

    • @dondahighhh12
      @dondahighhh12 9 месяцев назад

      i think its parallel how Sukuna personality has changed even as he looks more primal. when he first took over yuji in chapter 1, he was a savage , asking where the women and children are and wanted to have fun with nobura. but now he's more wise and philosophical

    Everything Kashimo did during his fight with Sukuna, could've been done at the end of the Sukuna vs Gojo fight. Showing Sukuna's true form, Sukuna's new Space Dismantle, Sukuna declaring his view on strength and love. All could've been shown without even the need of Kashimo existing, so it feels like Gege gave Kashimo what he, at first thought, was going to show at Gojo's end because he realized he needed to hit that story beat since he, for some reason, made Kashimo more than just a Point Pinata with cool abilities like some other Culling Games characters, and gave him the title of "The Strongest" so he could fit into the loneliness and solitude that comes with being at the pinnacle theme.

      i dont think i said purpose for gojo i believe i said (or at least intended) meaning in his death, gojo was happy to die the way he did and was relieved since the persona of the strongest was lifted from him and he could be honest with himself and finally be free from the burdens society placed on him. Dying to someone stronger for gojo meant that someone else understood what he went through and the meaning of his strength became validated to him, it wasn't as much of a burden as anymore for him.

    • @angelm365
      @angelm365 Год назад +1

      @CursedValor you actually said, " ...dying to sukuna, gojo found purpose..." I actually paused the video and wrote my comment. But if you intended something else, never mind
      First, I must say I enjoy your videos, and not just those based on jjk.
      But I disagree with your opinion on gojo. Gojo's character in the afterlife seemed so bizarre and jarring that it came across as poorly written compared to the gege's usual work.
      I could be wrong because I might be missing the brilliance. But gojo seems entirely unconcerned with the well-being of the students he's nurtured as well as for the world at large. I'm not saying gojo lacks any selfish tendencies or even narcissistic ones, but the way gege reduced him to kashimo's more simple mentality.
      Kashimo isn't gojo, and gojo isn't kashimo. Gojo had a best friend, and his betrayal deeply affected him and helped guide him to create a new horizon, not just for himself(to surround himself by people as strong as he is) but for strong people in general, as well as people as weak as rika.
      But this gojo is just happy about how much fun he had, and if he's concerned about anyone, he's sad about sukuna and how lonely he might feel. I can go on and on in the nuances why the after life scene was so disappointing.
      I think it would've been better for the Fandom if sukuna just killed gojo, and we had no access to his thoughts and no limbo scene.
      Not only was it anticlimactic, but it actually felt like fanfiction.

    • @CursedValor
      @CursedValor  Год назад +5

      the viz is probably the best translation since it's done by lightning, but the long and short of it is that gojo did care about them but he could never truly connect with them because they could not truly understand him, it might come off like he doesn't care but it's just trying to convey how only geto and sukuna ever really understood gojo.
      also thank you for the comments! i appreciate it.
