  • Dedicated to benzo4029! Here is truly my favorite version of this FANTASTIC song. With 1920's atmospheric whimsical whistling and wispy rainstorm sound effects, makes this record a true thrill to listen to! To me there is NO other version of this song! I sure hope You will enjoy this little gem! And Thank You for stopping by!!

    Been a long time since I''ve had the pleasure of hearing a Edison Needle Type, and like always, they sound superb! B. A. Rolfe had a good radio show back in 1928 - 1929, some really good stuff his ork put out on that.

    1929 Talkie Hit! I'm thrilled & humbled to have this song dedicated to me.! My thing is collecting 1929 talkie hits, and Roybo offers up the HOLY GRAIL of them all, the rare Edison Needle Type 78 version of "Singing in The Rain!" A song known and loved by everybody around the world. This is the king of them all. I've never heard this stunning version by B A Rolphe with the talkie sound effects before! Truly beats my Victor record by Gus Arnheim! You've made me very happy and made my day! I sure enjoy your channel. Thanks a million.

      @@VTMCompany I personally adore Vaughn De Leath's version of, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love"😚 will check out Rolfe's version since it has great rapport.

      Rolfe's arrangement is almost bizarre compared to the regular versions on record. It's the best though!@@OLD_SOUL1900

    This very famous song is always a joy to hear, but even more so in this sensational version that has always been my favorite since the first time I heard it! Only superlatives are suitable for this masterpiece. The whirling sound effects, the sparkling orchestration, the refined vocal by Walter Van Brunt aka Scanlan, everything is perfect :-) Thank you so much for sharing!

      Thank You so much for Your comment and info! I have very little info on this FANTASTIC Edison side, and all of it is on the label itself, That is why I did not put a recording date on the label! So it is Walter Van Brunt who is the vocal!! Interesting!!

      @@roybo1930 You are so welcome! I did some additional research and I am sorry to have to admit I was wrong regarding this one. Van Brunt is the vocalist indeed in the version recorded on May 23, 1929 and issued as Edison 52592 (matrix numbers 19244 or N-949). However, the issue you own is Edison 14055-R, matrix number N-1020-A, recorded on July 16, 1929. On the latter, the vocalist is J. Donald Parker.

    I love this one in your opinion you think that if edison had introduced these needle types earlier you think his company would have survived the depression or been around for longer ? Or not so much

    • @martinbryan3716
      @martinbryan3716 6 месяцев назад

      It was too little, too late. By the time the records were introduced, Edison had lost the majority of the company's distribution network, and summers were never the strong season for selling records. Even an endorsement by The New Yorker magazine did little to promote the Needle Type record. If the records had been around for a couple of years, it's doubtful they would have survived the Depression -- look at what happened to Columbia!
