@@chreezybreezy983That's totally fine if you write your plan in your essay text box, but just to be safe, I'd probably delete it when you've finished writing your essay. I doubt it would matter too much if it was still there, but just so it's all neat and tidy I'd probably get rid of it.
Loved your video. If you don’t mind, can you share your essay structure that scored you 80? How do you improve your vocabulary? Are you able to do video on how you write an essay? Thank you so much
Just posted a video hopefully answering all your questions! I didn’t touch on expanding your vocabulary but I think tips for this can ultimately be divided up into two parts: whether you want to improve your vocabulary fast or slow. The fast way: write a list of a bunch of words you can find that is not saved into your vocab yet that you’d like to learn. Actively recall them until you have memorized them. Use them in conversations and writing wherever you can. The slow way: read as much as you possibly can. Different genres, different forms. Being exposed to different words will gradually build up your vocab over time. Then you can start to use them in your own writing to get them to stick. Hope that helps!
me: doesn’t understand anything about the uni system in Australia but watches the whole video nontheless also me: should I join the gamsat facebook group now
Fraser’s is so expensive. 😭I still don’t know if I should get the course. I’m also a medical science student at USYD and my parents are willing to pay for the prep course but I really don’t wanna waste their hard-earned money for useless courses. Please give me one reason to convince myself for the course
Hi Guoba, honestly - if you're unsure about it, I'd say don't do it. You can still succeed without a course in the GAMSAT and I've heard of many people who have. They are just an easy way to get support and cover all three sections in a basic way. However, there are many other options for you to get help! I'd recommend breaking down the help you need into each of the sections. E.g. if you need help for section 2, you might consider doing some tutoring with me or signing up for my section 2 specific course (cheaper and more directed). Otherwise, if your weakness is section 3, you might want to find a tutor specific for that section (I know Jesse Osbourne is doing tutoring for section 3 and after he scored 100 and he's great). That said, courses are run by companies who have been doing this for a while so hopefully they know their stuff. But they are expensive, so you have to pick what is right for you. :)
Hey! That’s totally fine - lots of people without a science gamsat sit and are still able to score well :) my advice would be to really take the time to learn the science before you start solving the complex problems of section 3. That way you can maximize your chances for section 3 and it doesn’t weigh your s1 and s2 scores down. Will this be your first time sitting?
Hello Kate! I’m getting into undergrad soon and I aim to sit the gamsat before I graduate. May I ask when do I have to start preparing? Do I have to start preparing by the first year of university? English isn’t my native language and Im concerned whether that will be an obstacle for me
Hey jack! Usually people take it at the beginning of their last year of uni, but your gamsat mark will be valid for up to about 2 years, so you can take it 2 years before you’d like to get in if you want. Check the information booklet on the Acer website for actual score validity dates. So since you have approx 1-2 years before you’ll need to sit, you can start doing the little things to build up to it. Honestly if I were you I would read as much I could. Literature, non-fiction, fiction, the whole shabang. And start writing for fun - a blog, or just in your diary. Start improving your English vocabulary and grammar skills so you are well versed in the English language for section 1 and 2. Also, familiarize yourself with year 12 biology, chemistry and physics content. Then 3-6 months before your actual exam you can start to prepare properly. I would worry too much yet though, you have plenty of time! And lots of people who have English as their second language sit the gamsat do just fine. If you’re already thinking about it this early on, I’m sure you’ll do great!
@@furbytvtv Hey Kate! While I am considering grad entrance in Australia, I got accepted by an Irish med school. However, I am an international student and internships (residencies) are scarce for non-EU graduates. It is also tough to get a residency in Australia if I am an international med school graduate. I have heard that the GAMSAT is incredibly difficult as you have to get a 70+ to be competitive enough, which is an incredibly high score. Is it wise to consider the grad entrance path in Australia as I am an Australian citizen?
@@jackgray3190 I can’t give you definitive advice because it really depends on what YOU want to do. Where do you want to go to uni? Where do you want to be a doctor? What risks are you prepared to take to achieve that? In most cases, if you work hard enough, there will always be away. A 70+ is possible, but only necessary in the top schools in aus (uni Melb and usyd). All I can say is to decide what you want and then to make an informed decision based on official information available. Hope that helps :)
Does not really touch on HOW to write an essay that will score 80% and above. Would be beneficial if you could explain on what kind of paragraphs, ideas, sentence structures, grammars, how to elaborate ideas on quotes given etc. that are crucial for an essay that score 80% and above would be useful. How or what GAMSAT examiners are looking for in an essay of this sort? Thank you.
Thanks for the great question! They were both useful for their own reasons, but I think a tutor was more helpful in the end - they can give more focused advice specific to you.
Hi Kate, how do you determine the percentile for a specific section. My friend scored 68 in S1 for May 2020 and usually that is a very high percentile, I just wanted to work out what hers was for that year. :) Any help would be appreciated :)
I realised this is not a function that RUclips has! So I worked with Michael to calculate the percentile for my section 2 score. He had access to enough data to calculate an estimated percentile. I dont think he has a section 1 version though sadly! The percentile doesn’t mean too much anyway - just was more useful for me to be able to justify that 80 is a high score for section 2 for you guys in this video. Sorry I can’t be of more help for your friend! Nonetheless - yes 68 is a very high score for section 1 and I would no doubt put that at least in the top 10%.
