You caption the video “Vouzela: One of Portugal’s Best Kept Secrets” and leave us to deduce that it is because Vouzela is not a tourist destination and because most Portuguese people can’t even point out its geographical location. And yet, walking around Vouzela suggests that it is the town itself that vacillatingly conceals the secret. What I mean to say is that Vouzela has too-few inhabitants and yet is too architecturally picturesque, too well-manicured, too green, too clean, too unconnected to the outside world, and yet too socio-economically active and full of young, energetic people to be at risk of abandonment - in short, Vouzela is a too “well-kept” secret that nevertheless overtly offers too many clues to those who walk its streets. You don’t mention anything about Vouzela’s economy, so one can only speculate what activity keeps the town so perceptibly alive. Personally, what challenges my imagination regarding Vouzela’s secret is that I can’t figure out why it is that although the day you took the video of Vouzela was a Wednesday - the middle of the work week - so many young joggers were sprinting across the old railway bridge.
Hello, happy Monday! 😀 Although the city itself is a picturesque little gem, seemingly frozen in time, the municipality as a whole has become a very important industrial center in the region. Benefiting from the excellent network of highways that serve the municipality, many companies have established themselves here. Especially companies linked to the production of bicycles and bicycle components. And I'm not talking about cheap 100 dollar bikes. The first factory in Europe making carbon fiber bicycle frames ($$$) is located in Vouzela. I'm not sure, but I think those kids sprinting across the bridge were at a school activity, or maybe something related to a local sports club. It seemed "too organized" to be just a group of friends having fun. But maybe I'm wrong. 😁

It just seems logical that some economic engine (in Vouzela’s case, product-producing industry, including components for high-end bicycles) is keeping Vouzela the beautiful, “too this and too that” place that it is, and that the risk of the town being abandoned is, at least for the foreseeable future, relatively low or, God willing, not at all imminent. My guess is that Vouzela’s secret is safe. Good for them.
Vouzela é linda! So many other places as such dotted all over Portugal that most of our visitors miss, keeping to the bigger cities like Lisbon or Porto; they don't know what they are missing! Thank youMiguel for this delightful video.

Vouzela is certainly up there as one of the cutest and most interesting towns I have ever visited. 😊 No, I didn't stay at Casa das Ameias, I have family about 40 minutes northeast of Vouzela, so I stayed with there a few days, like I usually do every summer.

Olá Maria! 😊 Os doces de Vouzela são fantásticos, mas eu prefiro mesmo a vitela. 😁 Carne ganha sempre aos doces. Na verdade eu até gosto de explorar os meus limites em relação à altura, nunca chego a ficar em situação de grande desconforto (exceto a ponte lá em Arouca, aí foi muito complicado manter o sangue frio nalguns momentos), pois tenho sempre a possibilidade de voltar para trás. Eu já pensei investir num drone, mas há tantas regras e leis que logo mudo de ideia... É muito complicado usar um drone em meios urbanos, de forma legal. Se algo correr mal e cai na cabeça de alguém... 😅 Abraços e até quinta-feira, para mais um lugar pouco conhecido (e este será um pouco mais feio talvez...)
@@POVTours Um brasileiro teve problema com drone duas vezes. Na primeira, chegou perto demais de um riacho ou lago, não lembro, e o drone "afogou"! Na segunda, o drone ficou preso em uma árvore muito alta. Foi um custo conseguir pegar. Bem, de fato, leis e regras são necessárias, neste caso. Além da privacidade das pessoas, tem a questão de problemas sérios, como as quedas que você citou. Ademais, embora muitas cidades portuguesas tenham fiação subterrânea (que inveja, meu Deus! Na minha janela tem uma profusão de fios e cabos e caixas e tudo que deixa uma vista horrorosa!), ainda assim há sempre alguma coisa (ou algum trem, como se diria aqui em Minas) que pode ficar no caminho do drone. Eu gosto de carne, mas sou muito "doceira"... Creio que, se algum dia eu tiver a alegria de visitar Portugal, eu vou me perder nestes doces todos! 😋😋😋😋 Até quinta, meu amigo! Portugal pode ter lugares não muito bonitos, mas, feios? Sei não... 🤔

Vouzela town is very nice. The Church of Mercy's front view is nice. But the interior is not shown. Video background music is very melodious. It is a gift that the town has Twin Rivers. The railway bridge is a landmark for this town. The water who drinks from the fountain fell in love and got married is lucky. Very rare towns have only such blessings. Great. Miguel boa tarde Estive em Vouzela no ano passado com amigos que me levaram lá. O melhor de tudo foi o pastel de Vouzela, o doce mais delicioso que já comi na vida. A região de Viseu e muito rica em cultura e boa gastronomia. Eu visitei também São Pedro do Sul onde almoçamos e comi uma delicioso bolo de natas chamado molotov. Um espetáculo. Hoje para ver Portugal e preciso ir as cidades pequenas. As grandes estão contaminadas pelo excesso de imigrantes e excesso de comércio internacional que vai destruindo o comércio familiar. Fui ao Porto no fim-de-semana ano e fiquei triste demais. Acabaram com o mercado do Bolhao. A cidade e outra cidade.

O primeiro meus parabens por todo o seu coragem para mostrarnos tudo. Sorprendeume muito toda Vouzela, ver como restauram um paço, o bom estado das casas, antigas e novas, na igreja matriz, mais antiga e pequena que outras e ainda é a principal, acho que nela vi uma pequena imagem depois da capela lateral e antes do altar mor, é uma imagem da Trindade. Na ponte tenho uma dúvida, a locomotiva que ali está penso que não é da antiga linha, pois acho que era de vitola estreita e issa locomotiva paresceme muito mais potente. Da ponte sobre o Zela, penso igual os romanos faziam muito bem, alem disso agora é um arco apuntado, penso por isso que é um restauro da Edade Media.

I was super motivated and mentally conditioned to cross the gorge bridge (even though it was a million times more terrifying), unlike this one. Portuguese architecture has a finesse about it that makes it so charming and one of its main features is the "quadding" around the doors and windows and on the edges of buildings -that's where the stone is of a darker type and stands out so neatly and symmetrically . I haven't seen this done in other systems whether Italian, French or Spanish -seems to be uniquely Portuguese and colonial Brazilian. The palace or quinta of Mateus is a fine example - the one on the famous Mateus wine bottles.

Vouzela is certainly up there as one of the cutest and most interesting towns I have ever visited. 😊 No, I didn't stay at Casa das Ameias, I have family about 40 minutes northeast of Vouzela, so I stayed with there a few days, like I usually do every summer.

Provavelmente, o próximo vídeo já terá casas bem diferentes, será na região do Alentejo onde todas as casas são brancas e nenhuma é de pedra. Portugal é um país pequeno mas com grandes diferenças entre cada região, o que o torna ainda mais interessante.

Os doces de Vouzela são fantásticos, mas eu prefiro mesmo a vitela. 😁 Carne ganha sempre aos doces.
Na verdade eu até gosto de explorar os meus limites em relação à altura, nunca chego a ficar em situação de grande desconforto (exceto a ponte lá em Arouca, aí foi muito complicado manter o sangue frio nalguns momentos), pois tenho sempre a possibilidade de voltar para trás.
Eu já pensei investir num drone, mas há tantas regras e leis que logo mudo de ideia... É muito complicado usar um drone em meios urbanos, de forma legal. Se algo correr mal e cai na cabeça de alguém... 😅

@@POVTours Um brasileiro teve problema com drone duas vezes. Na primeira, chegou perto demais de um riacho ou lago, não lembro, e o drone "afogou"! Na segunda, o drone ficou preso em uma árvore muito alta. Foi um custo conseguir pegar. Bem, de fato, leis e regras são necessárias, neste caso. Além da privacidade das pessoas, tem a questão de problemas sérios, como as quedas que você citou. Ademais, embora muitas cidades portuguesas tenham fiação subterrânea (que inveja, meu Deus! Na minha janela tem uma profusão de fios e cabos e caixas e tudo que deixa uma vista horrorosa!), ainda assim há sempre alguma coisa (ou algum trem, como se diria aqui em Minas) que pode ficar no caminho do drone.
Eu gosto de carne, mas sou muito "doceira"... Creio que, se algum dia eu tiver a alegria de visitar Portugal, eu vou me perder nestes doces todos! 😋😋😋😋

Vouzela town is very nice. The Church of Mercy's front view is nice. But the interior is not shown. Video background music is very melodious. It is a gift that the town has Twin Rivers. The railway bridge is a landmark for this town. The water who drinks from the fountain fell in love and got married is lucky. Very rare towns have only such blessings. Great. Estive em Vouzela no ano passado com amigos que me levaram lá. O melhor de tudo foi o pastel de Vouzela, o doce mais delicioso que já comi na vida. A região de Viseu e muito rica em cultura e boa gastronomia. Eu visitei também São Pedro do Sul onde almoçamos e comi uma delicioso bolo de natas chamado molotov. Um espetáculo. Hoje para ver Portugal e preciso ir as cidades pequenas. As grandes estão contaminadas pelo excesso de imigrantes e excesso de comércio internacional que vai destruindo o comércio familiar. Fui ao Porto no fim-de-semana ano e fiquei triste demais. Acabaram com o mercado do Bolhao. A cidade e outra cidade.

O primeiro meus parabens por todo o seu coragem para mostrarnos tudo. Sorprendeume muito toda Vouzela, ver como restauram um paço, o bom estado das casas, antigas e novas, na igreja matriz, mais antiga e pequena que outras e ainda é a principal, acho que nela vi uma pequena imagem depois da capela lateral e antes do altar mor, é uma imagem da Trindade. Na ponte tenho uma dúvida, a locomotiva que ali está penso que não é da antiga linha, pois acho que era de vitola estreita e issa locomotiva paresceme muito mais potente. Da ponte sobre o Zela, penso igual os romanos faziam muito bem, alem disso agora é um arco apuntado, penso por isso que é um restauro da Edade Media.

I haven't seen this done in other systems whether Italian, French or Spanish -seems to be uniquely Portuguese and colonial Brazilian. The palace or quinta of Mateus is a fine example - the one on the famous Mateus wine bottles.
