- Team Jo-Jo Recon Mission:
First mate Big Rudy could not make a trip on Monday, so I did the next best thing-I decided to ride around the neighborhood to check out the local fishing and catching situation. It's always good to stay informed and get the latest intel, even if you're not directly on the water. My first stop was at The Point, where I noticed about six or seven boats had launched, and one was already pulling out of the water.
Curiosity got the better of me, so I motored over to the boat that was packing up to see if I could gather some intel on the trestles. It turned out to be two vintage fisherpersons, around the same age as myself. We struck up a conversation, and they shared their experience of the day:
• Lake Conditions: They mentioned that the lake was not too rough, which is always a good sign, but the conditions can change quickly, so it’s something to keep an eye on.
• Fishing Report: They fished the trestles and caught a mixed bag of drums, croakers, and one sheepshead. Unfortunately, there were no keepers among them, so it was not much to talk about in terms of quantity or quality.
• Bait & Tackle: One was fishing with live shrimp, while the other was using lures. It’s always interesting to see the different approaches and what might work better on any given day.
• Water Clarity: They guessed the water clarity to be about 50/50-not looking that great. That could be a factor in why they didn’t have much success.
• Fishing Spots: These guys fish in Lake P and the surrounding areas quite often. They also fish at Delacroix but felt that it was too long of a ride for this particular outing.
•
As we continued to chat, one of them suddenly asked, "Stanley?" I replied, "Yes?" And just like that, we realized we knew each other from way back! They were two retired Sheetmetal workers from Atlas Blowpipe. We had worked on some of the same projects in the past-hotels, hospitals, high-rise buildings along Poydras Street, and casinos. Atlas was a sub of MCC, so it’s a small world indeed. We all agreed that it was a delightful surprise to reconnect after all these years.
Before they left, I offered to take them down to Delacroix for a fishing trip anytime. We’ll have to see if that works out-could be a great opportunity to show them around and maybe teach them a thing or two about fishing in that area.
After saying our goodbyes, I continued my journey, crossing the Hwy 11 bridge and heading all the way to the game preserve along the Hwy 11 boat launch and parking lot. I took in the sights and considered all the intel I had gathered.
Now it’s time to interpret all this information and plan a trip to Lake P soon. I’m anxious to get out there and put the Lake P Troll technique and presentation to the test. Based on everything I’ve learned; I’m feeling that the south shore along the trestles would be a better spot for catching.
Good Fishing,
Team Jo-Jo & Oneofthepack
Trout are at the LM bridge moving in following the shrimp! Hopefully the will be at the trestles before to long!)
End of November, mid-December they be at trestles, me guess
