This is the best explanation I have seen.
The one thing I would add is that as the horizontal vortex is tilted upwards, it stretches and lengthens. This causes the vortex to rotate faster because the same amount of energy is being concentrated into a smaller space. This is similar to how a figure skater spins faster when they pull their arms in toward their body.
Interesting.
Conservation of angular momentum at work!

Outstanding explanation! My science teacher dithered around for weeks and left us more confused than when we started. Much appreciated
That was the sexiest and best explanation of a tornado developing that I've ever seen
You really have explained this very well😊
The best explanation, to the point, is how it tilts. This is what most want to know graphically.
Nice explanation 😊
Thank you
Well explained, thank you.
Okay there’s a lot of misinformation here. The rear flank down draft is what actually forms the funnel cloud. Also good point to note is the main updraft actually does push the tube of spinning air upward but it looks more like a bent tube then a vertical one and also the tornado can form on either end of the tube of air so imagine ts like this ⬆️=updraft the tornado can form on either side.

Next thing to point out is that tornados start from the ground not from the air. That’s why you you often see debris swirling on the ground as the funnel cloud is forming.
Very interesting. I thought that tornadoes always descended but it seems that almost half of all tornadoes were detected first near the ground and grew upward or appeared nearly simultaneously. The non-descending tornadoes appear to happen more often in the Southeastern US.
This is for public consumption. It's good enough.
Very educational!!!
Thats amazing
Who else here after being hit with a tornado 👀
How does the warm air meet the cold air?
I wish i,ll be a storm chaser soon ive been watching tornadoes since i was 4 or 5 but its complex
I’ve listen to many explanations on how tornados get rotation but tilting I have never heard of that.
Got it 👍
Sun spots on the Sun are tornadoes.
a tornado rotates cooling the air (this is a source of energy)
Unfortunately this explanation is totally wrong. James McGinn / Solving Tornadoes
God forms them. None of what she said is true.
Lmao

@@debeightonethree6346 If she knew how they formed she would know where they would strike on land. Not one person has ever been able to predict where they would land on earth.....yet!
@@KJV7154 the weather forecast is gonna blow your mind!
@@debeightonethree6346 Yeh she doesnt explain the science behind it though....Wheres the math? Give me empirical evidence through math. You'll never find it.....
