Chen singing Miracles in December is like a spiritual experience. I know what to expect, yet his voice thrills me every time, sending goosebumps up my arms. They all excel here, the ease and warm precision is so good you forget to just listen and become part of the music. The power of EXO. I envy the journey ahead of you discovering so much brilliance for the first time.
This Killing Voice performance, as the title indicates, is supposed to showcase EXO's outstanding vocals, so what you are hearing is a compilation of some of the best parts of their songs that highlight their vocal abilities. They debuted more than 11 years ago, so they have a lot of songs. You are only hearing a small fraction of them and only a few lines of each of the songs (And in some cases, they are singing lines from the middle of the song, so it may sound different when you listen to the actual song. Plus, in this performance they are missing two members, so some of their parts in these songs were different than the original versions because they had to cover for the members who were unable to participate in this program.) As you can see and hear, this is a LIVE performance with 100% live vocals. SM Entertainment -- which is the company that founded the Kpop industry and is one of the largest and most influential entertainment companies in Korea -- is known for having some of the best singers in the Kpop. You can't be an SM artist without being an amazing singer. So even the company's rappers receive intense vocal training. (Just look at EXO's Chanyeol on the far left and Sehun on the far right, who are both main rappers, and, yet, they each have amazing singing voices. How often do you see rappers that can sing as well as them?) All of SM's rappers could even fill in as main vocalists in their groups. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. And what you are hearing is why EXO are nicknamed "the vocal kings of Kpop". Another thing SM's artists and groups are known for is for being top tier when it comes to live vocals and perfect harmonies. SM artists are recognized for the fact that they all can sing live while performing intense choreography for hours in concert and still sound flawless the whole time. The company is known for having artists and groups who sound even better live than they do on their studio recordings, so that's why you really need to watch SM's and EXO's concert performances, because the songs are on a whole other level when they are live. EXO is currently a 9-member group, however, there are only 7 members in this performance. From left to right: Chanyeol (main rapper and lead vocal), D.O. (main vocal), Suho (leader and lead vocal), Chen (main vocal), Xiumin (lead vocal, sub-rapper, and dancer), Baekhyun (main vocal) and Sehun (main rapper and main dancer). The two members who are missing are: Kai (main dancer, lead vocal and sub-rapper), who is on hiatus right now because he joined the military May 2023, and will be away for the next 18 months; and Lay (main dancer, lead vocal and rapper), EXO's Chinese member, who is busy with solo activities in China. If you look up the lyrics for "Growl," you will see they are pretty much acting like a wolf or beast that can no longer control themselves around the girl, and they are warning her to be careful because all she does is make them want to growl and grab her and possess her, etc. "I’m warning you just in case (listen carefully) It’s dangerous now (so dangerous) Stop provoking me (there’s going to be trouble) I don’t even know myself ... My breath keeps on stopping You walk towards me You smile at me Maybe you’re attracted to me too .... A dark shadow has woken up inside of me Sparks fly in my eyes as I look at you Everyone step away from her (step away) It’s going to get fierce from now on I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling If you don’t back away then I don’t care if you get hurt ..." etc. "Growl" is literally the song and performance MV that skyrocketed EXO into superstardom and it's now considered one of Korea's national anthems. Anyone who has been a part of Kpop for any amount of time has to know this song because it's part of Kpop culture and it is used everywhere. It was even one of the theme songs for the 2018 Winter Olympics. I mean it's one of the most covered songs by trainee groups and you can see and hear it being performed by people all over the place. "Growl" is the song that EXO are most known for. "Sing For You" came out in 2015 and it is literally, as the title says, EXO singing to EXO-Ls (EXO's fans). This song has an MV and it's all part of EXO's storyline. This song was released after 3 of their Chinese members left the group, so it's also a promise and apology song to EXO-Ls. As you just saw, "Miracles in December" is a song that is only sung by EXO's three main vocalists, Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. However, you will see all the EXO members in the MV because it tells another part of EXO's story. There is no MV for "The Eve" because it's a B-side track. However, it's the B-side song that they promoted with, along with their lead track "Ko Ko Bop," so they have a dance practice video for the song you will have to check out. "The Eve" is one of their most iconic songs and performances. "Overdose" is about overdosing on love like a drug and been trapped within a maze, so the sound of the song is supposed to be disorienting because you are supposed to feel like they are being brainwashed and unable to find their way out, etc. This song has an MV. "The First Snow" is a B-side song on one of their winter albums (They have more than one winter/holiday album). There isn't an MV, so you will have to look for a live performance. The song is about the magic of the first snowfall of the season and how it's the perfect atmosphere to fall in love. This song is so popular that you can hear it being played all over the place in Korea on the first day it snows, and it's pretty much considered a winter anthem that gets played nonstop all season long, especially around the holidays. "Don't Go" is another B-side so yet again there is no MV. But it's a song they often perform live in concert, so I encourage you to react to a concert performance of the song. The choreography incorporates that butterfly that they make with their hands, so that's why Chanyeol made a butterfly. The song's even more beautiful when you see the choreography that goes with it. EXO's "Power" is one of their main track songs with an MV. It was also used as one of the theme songs, along with their song "Growl," during the 2018 winter Olympics. EXO even performed both songs during the closing ceremony. As "the nation's boy group," EXO was the only Kpop group to be selected to perform at the Olympics. The first would be something of a continuation of this Killing Voice, and that would be EXO Acoustic Session + Lady Luck + What If. I say a continuation of Killing Voice because that set really shows off their live vocals. And the other is a no-brainer for you as an EDM producer - you need to watch the live set of Diamond + Coming Over + Run This + Drop That + Power. It is basically a rave. And it's as good if not even more hype than any rave I've been to. Those two live sets are a great place to start (along with all the things you've checked out already) when you're beginning a journey with EXO.
You holding your heart when Chen started sining Miracles in December, that's literally me. It just hits on a different level both spiritually and emotionally. Exo are known as Vocal Kings for a reason and recently they're titled Emperors of Kpop by streaming sights. Exo are really good at vocals, techniques, sense of harmony to the point that all individual voices sound as one, dancing and most importantly Live Performances which are even better than their studio versions. Also Exo are really hilarious group. If you ever wish to know them as person then I recommend their individual guides by Caesar Oh, their variety shows like Exo Arcade (both season), Exo Showtime and Exo Ladder (all seasons). There's also channels like Yep4andy, HaniPunk and Ninimad who makes really good videos about Exo's funny moments. The first funny video I'd recommend is "Exo isn't funny; then explain this".

I watched two reactions this week of Electric Kiss, which I hadn’t seen in ages. It’s a great song, and the choreography is the most intricate, difficult, and demanding choreo I’ve ever seen. Welcome to EXO. We’re always thrilled to find someone who is new to EXO discovering them. For sure, start watching the full performances from Killing Voice either live or in movie video. Live is always best. Please react to Exo's songs in release order (starting with "What is Love" and "History") along with Exo-M versions, you'll be so shaken at how good they were since their rookie days. As for live performances, their live performances are always better, I'd say try to always react to Japan versions cause they have the better camera moments and focus unlike Seoul versions. My favorite performances are "Drop That" Japan, "Mama+Monster+Wolf" and "Call me baby+Touch it+Chill" which I really recommend you to check out.

Please react to Exo's songs in release order (starting with "What is Love" and "History") along with Exo-M versions, you'll be so shaken at how good they were since their rookie days.
As for live performances, their live performances are always better, I'd say try to always react to Japan versions cause they have the better camera moments and focus unlike Seoul versions. My favorite performances are "Drop That" Japan, "Mama+Monster+Wolf" and "Call me baby+Touch it+Chill" which I really recommend you to check out.
